Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

Depends on what you mean by 'better'...what are you looking for in a vape?
IMO the areas the pax beats the ascent (DEMO UNIT ONLY) are
Size
Battery Life
Odor emission (flowers not electrical)
...if none of those 3 are deal breakers, the ascent is DEFINITELY the vape for YOU! (Its fucking awesome)

re: Pax vs. Ascent
I was considering buying a Pax but when I found out they recommend you use a lubricant, that I believe would be in the vapor path, I balked. Is it true that the vapor in the Pax passes over the lubed joint? If so this can't be healthy, you've got to be inhaling some of the lubricant (food grade or not). And it probably affects the taste to some degree. That's why the Ascent appeals to me, with the 'all glass' vapor path. But I wonder if there's anything else in the Ascent path, like the silicone sleeve, or a seal/gasket around the bowl that might contaminate the vapor?

I hope this isn't bad form to respond to this in the Ascent thread.

I have owned 2 Pax units for almost a year. The lubricant is not necessary if you keep the unit clean. I was given free packets of lubricant from Ploom, but have never had to use it.

Battery life? The Ascent provides less time than the Pax? Now, with my Solo, I get about 6 sessions (3/4 bowl), and that gets me through the day/night (maybe somewhat over an hour of use until time to recharge...start at 3 and end at 7). Certainly this is less battery life than Arizer claims for the Solo (wonder if somethings wrong). But as far as the Ascent goes, I need it to go at least the full day/night without a charge...never mind that you can charge while using...I don't want to be tied to an outlet. Can our trusted reviewers chime in on this issue? Thanks!

I had heard through the grapevine that they were going to include a de-bigulator button to make it smaller to fit in your pocket better. Something about changing molecular stability and allowing the molecules to form a tighter bond, reducing the size by 80% when not in use. And much better clouds in full-size mode. They are going to be re-working the laws of physics, should be done in September. That's what I heard.

Wow am I confused now...slim, sticks, THR can you please chime in? I thought one of the reviewers said real time battery was around 1 1/2 hours which beats most portables. More smell then the pax really? That makes no sense to me either so it would be nice guys if you can answer to wakebakes comments.

Maybe this is like the DV which smells a lot as well and maybe wk is right that it is the vents cause the dv has vents as well.

could someone please direct me to the post in which it was confirmed that the release date was pushed back to August? I've been looking through the thread for a while and can't seem to find it…

So you are saing the batteries of the Ascent die quicker than the one in the Pax?

That's a huge bummer for me, I expected the Ascent to have better batt life than the Pax.
For ME thats the issue, but it could just be possible I got one with a weak battery, I havent heard any of the other reviewers bring up the issue...so dont let it bum you out, the ascent has lots of other cool features that will blow your socks off

DaVinci has not told us yet what the release date will be. A 3rd party seller has Aug 15th as "their" release date.

But DV said on Facebook that they have not decided what the release date would be and so...

We will know when they tell us...

I was in contact with the person in charge of sales and that person told me that it is to be expected for july 15th but that with their track record it would be more plausible to expect it on the 15th of august

At first I wanted to interpret that with a bit of sarcasm on their part, but based on multiple missed target dates, it may not be far from the truth.

Like everyone else, well almost everyone else, I want them to get it right.....but for the love of god already. I'm happy I have the original to tide me over.

Lets see if this post gets deleted like my 'other' first one. :goon:

Seems now that this thread was made prematurely.

I disagree, it's just overactive. There is still some useful information in with the BS, at least every once in a while.

But folks keep insisting on turning it into a chat room, filling it up with idle speculations and cheap shots as well as basically useless information about stuff like how happy or sad they are about some trivial thing that will not mean anything a while down the road when legitimate new folks will tell us "I don't have time to read through XX pages of this thread to find what I need"......ironically making it yet longer and less useful in the process.

Yeah, and we're sprinkling in posts about other forbidden topics like second guessing Mods decisions that also aren't helping IMO.

Pogo was right I think. Noting wrong with the thread being open and lightly used as there's little real news to work with, but it's not, IMO, the right place to vent your frustrations (like I am.....), chat idly about the unimportant, speculate on how we'd do it better nor many of the routine uses we're putting it to. It's what we're doing to it, not the timing. Pogo was right, "we have met the enemy, and he is us".

It's good to remind all those in here about this thread now and again.

Are we still waiting for your final video/other reviews? I know it was mentioned that time with the device was needed before final verdicts are in (and time to edit properly and what not, although that might have been more of a THR concern). Are you all waiting for next week to drop those on us? Or have you said all that you intended to (outside of addressing specific questions)?

I don't do vids and have said what I have to say...but I'm here to answer questions.
Hope I'm not taxing you or anyone with a question already addressed, but how's the battery life of the Ascent? Also, if you were to seal off the entire girth starting at the hinge around the outside, would there be a difference in air infiltration, or does it provide a solid seal? Thanks!

Do you have any battery issues? I swear mine is weird, I charged it about an hour and a half took it outside tried to turn it on and...nothing, I then plugged it in at mcsonalds for 10 minutes and it said it had a full battery and turned on???
...like I said weird.

sounds like if there were a cap for the grill & stem, it would be smell proof?

There is a cap for the stem. If the smell becomes a problem I'm ordering a airtight case once I get the vape. I dont need my kids playing bloodhound,

Well I broke down again and purchased the original davinci vape a couple of days ago.
I needed something to compare the ascent too.
Being there is a progression in there vape tech and such.
I had to give it a chance, I get the feeling that the ascents air path is very similar to the davinci wide open.
The heater needs some time to heat up but after a short warm up its all good.

Thanks THR, for that excellent review.

I particularly liked all the closeup details, and the size comparison to the original davinci.

So, looking forward to its eventual release.

Thanks!
