Just cleaned joint again one week after initial cleaning and it was a cinch -- a 3 Q-Tip Op.

I wish I could say the same! lol It's been a nightmare and I just gave up on the ring. I lost 3 qtip heads in there and it wasn't the easiest thing to get out (used a wooden skewer). I don't know what else to do other than just accept it? I think there might even be something lower than that but I don't see how that would be possible and I think it may just be a shadow from the lights inside.

I also tried the rolled up paper towel in iso trick but that could only get me so far.

@ v4l > Let the ISO seep on the ring, leave the Q-Tip touching awhile. There may be a possibility that the honey will dissolve easier on a slightly heated joint but that's just theory. Also, make sure to use quality Q-Tips and 91% ISO.

i'm not really sure how. I mean, stick the q-tip (i'm using authentic) right into the narrower part and let it "sit" there for a bit? That will get "under" the joint? How does it even build up there? It's before the vapour path lol

is this a ring on the top edge of the male joint or on the top of the inner reduction where the heater is?

if it's the latter why not try attacking ti from the bottom air inlet?

also how did you get resin down there? oil?

honestly i have no idea, no oil. just herb and over a couple of days... i also get what looks like a black powder down there which i assume is abv.

don't have long enough qtips to go from the bottom, not sure what else do to.

I though of this, might work?

-Find an old shirt or cloth
- cut a good long strip of it
-tie piece of string to it
-soak the strip in 99% iso
- use the string to get the cloth through the entire pathway
-pull the cloth from end to end

the longer you leave the ELB in the joint after a session the more condensation transfers from the ELB to the joint. So I remove the ELB immediately. Condensation will transfer over time regardless. Hot air rises which is how v4l's unit has deposits where it does. If there's any loose herb on the outside of the ELB, even microscopic, it will likely transfer into the joint as well.

it's your latter description forsure as I can see these "dark" particles which is abv. This ring is just concentrated abv i suppose, just don't know how it gets under that ridge, It must be from back pressure of some sort to get it down and under there.

It condenses into vapor and re-solidifies. Vapor rise. ;)

v4l...are you sure it wasn't there when you received it from the person you bought it from? I just cleaned mine for the first ever and there was nothing like you are describing near the restriction. I just had a little bit of yellow tint in there. This is my beta unit that I have been using for more than a year.

Positive, it was 100% unused new. I was wondering if it's maybe shadows but i don't think it is. Oldie knows what i'm talking about, i think. i'll see if a pic comes out good.

Plug the glass tube and fill it with iso for a long soak. This should get any stubborn grime unless it's not actually a byproduct of vaping and something else entirely.

I plug the top and fill from the bottom so I don't need to fill the entire tube to soak the dirty part. Just be careful but even if you soak the unit just let it dry before powering it up. It will be fine. Iso is often used to clean flux from circuit boards.

I would use a funnel because when some poor soul gets a big glop of ISO down the side and on the electronics, it may not be good either way you look at it.
