The Extreme-Q Vaporizer

When I try to start my EQ now it starts beeping and displaying ER5 on the screen while continuing to heat up and putting the fan on full blast. Does anyone know a fix or am I just fucked?

I tried using the warranty, but Arizer blamed it on me and wants me to pay $160 + shipping both ways to replace it.

Sorry to hear it @Korgminilogue. Mine did the same thing about 6 months ago.

I sent it back to the authorised dealer I bought it from and they took care of it. Only had to pay postage 1 way.

Try talking to the people you purchased it from rather than directly to Arizer.
@Nugg and I had PCB related problems. I bought mine from an Authorized dealer for the piece of mind with buying anything electronic in nature. RMAed it and got a fine replacement, knock on wood. How long have you had the unit, BTW? Arizer typically want their customers to send the unit back to the retailers. Then the retailers back to Arizer. If you bought it Internationally then that could be another wrinkle. To put it mildly. :bang:

So it hinges on the reputation of the retailer. We are familiar with many retailers who sell the EQ, if you wish to tell us where the source was from and your source country.
If all legit avenues lead to nowhere, there may be a place that fixes them that might be worthwhile. If all else, it might enough to graveyard for parts for the next one.
If you feel like getting hands on at some point with the next EQ and chalk it up to experience.

Taught myself a new trick. Are you familiar with the scissors and shot glass trick to cut things finer without using a grinder? Well that comes in real handy with herbs and grasses with strange textures like say dried strips of lemongrass. Well I tried using that trick with the EQ potpourri bowl and a pair of toy scissors. As a bonus, the finer particles fall through the hole and onto a paper plate (or an 18mm F/F that goes into another bowl type arrangement.) Very finely cut lemongrass to vape for my variation on an old idea. And the EQ can do those lower temps just fine. :peace:

Thanks for the replies guys. I bought from "vapemart" who are no longer in business afaik so sending it back to them is out of the question.

If anyone knows a way to fix it by buying a certain part and DIY I would be be grateful for the information.

Let this be a lesson to everyone planning to buy an Extreme Q. Don't 100% trust Arizer's warranty. Make sure whoever you're buying from offers their own warranty so you can swap it out easily like Nugg did.

You could go to bat again and mention your circumstance with vapemart. Have you registered your EQ already? If that has any bearing in your circumstance.
We are going to need to know the country you are in @Korgminilogue to help you with the repair avenue. But it sounds like a real PCB problem, Unless you got real lucky and need to say reseat the ribbon cable. Check your power cables. See if everything is well plugged in. Then give it another test. Hope this helps.

But if the board is bad, Which I'm guessing, well then it would be better to cut bait and fish elsewhere for a new EQ. Keep the other one for replacements parts. If you think that would be worthwhile. Not seeing a benefit of spending $160 + shipping both ways, when you can get one cheaper from a retailer with the full warranty legitimately and salvage the other one. Or take it apart for practice. :hmm: The glass heater and everything else is good, I'm guessing?

This guy uses a vacuum like I use my straw draw method for the same problem. He has other hacks too. Like the bell pepper water pipe!

I'm in the U.S. and I didn't register, I had no idea there was a registry since mine didn't come with a registration card or such.

I just opened it up and reconnected all the cables, ensured no cracks in heater cover, made sure the cloth covering the glass heater cover was secure etc. but the error persists. I believe your assessment of a bad board is the most likely case.

Yea the PCB board is the biggie, I will ask around, I might have heard of a retailer that might have a US repair office, etc. But you might want to cut bait, I'm afraid or chase down a board. My problem was with Fan 3 setting also. The display would just flicker weird with no fan response. Instead of your error message.

Can anybody recommend a good US authorized retailer, preferably affiliated with a US repair center? Close to $160.00?
Not sure about price but Vapeworld's warranty is amazing. I bought mine out of Canada from Agracan. Puffitup is a friend of the FC community and always has some sort of deal going.

Thanks for the help, but I just received good news 1 minute ago. Someone on eBay just bought out my listing for the broken EQ so I no longer need help repairing. Thanks fellas.

I'm off to buy a Storz & Bickel product ;) or maybe one of those underdog log vapes

I'll keep that in mind, that I can perhaps resell my dead one. I'm frugal though. I'd just have a do over with the EQ. But the underdog is closer in price to the EQ. Just not as universal and has it's own +/-'s. I like the versatility of my EQ over a single powerhouse vape. Just my thing.:science:

I personally never used the bag feature just because the instant satisfaction from hitting the whip was marvelous by itself. Just ordered a Storz & Bickel PLENTY to replace :)

My EQ left Ont today using Xpresspost. Should be here Wed or Thurs. Can't believe an old man like me is so dam excited! I want to play with this thing so bad.......
I've spent 1000s so far on ecig stuff to quit smoking.... I have a feeling this will end up costing me at least as much or more over time!

Not sure why you think you will be spending 1000's on this. You can actually start saving money with the EQ as others have. Using less materials, etc. I have spent around the $100.00 mark for extras including a bubbler and the Full @DDave mod kit and odd glass parts, balloons, and extra silicone tubing that I sourced for myself. Could have spent even less for more gear knowing what I know now. Unlike E-cigs with it's stainless steel and coils, glass is the medium for where it's at. If you are a purist, glass is the way. With the EQ's 18mm connection and 3 speed fan, their is a multitude of options without going for that specialized niche gear for each vape you own. I have even ISO cleaned all my combustion glass and reused it for projects! It has become that adaptable for me.:science:

Speaking of being frugal for the EQ, Even making my own vapor water pipes, until I can buy my favorite for around $40.00. After breaking the last one and throwing out thick glass jars to the recycling bin, it started to seem wasteful to not reuse. Much less to spend money on a downgrade of thinner glass. A good 2 hole silicone cork and some glass tubes around the same diameter might be my next water filter until I approach DHgate. Already using a rubber cork with two 2mm glass tubes, and plan to get something wider with a silicone stopper instead of rubber. Every thick, narrow, tall glass jar will be a candidate for reuse. My truffle oil bottle and some silicone tubing and a broken downstem from another bubbler, plus the rubber cork and glass tubes I ordered earlier and now I have a tall thick glass vapor bong that collects honey along it's glass tube pathway. Still will go with less restriction with the next cork setup. Do they make a silicone cork with 2 18mm/14mm holes? Might make a poor man's MFLB UFO at some point. Then Purchase the dream bubbler come tax time. Actually looking at E-cig bubblers too. Did not know of such a thing before.

Yes, I will probably save a ton actually. I have an ecig hobby that I spend a lot on. It's just I've seen many attachments for this, like $200 water bongs that look nice.... I know, I'm supposed to be saving money.... arg!
I wouldn't feel obligated to spend 1000$ right away. :D But for a $200 budget, I'd get the @DDave kit and get choosy as to a water piece, I would buy. Here is the $40.00 one from China I want or something in that vein. O.K I really want 2 of these. And keep saying over and over to myself. I don't have VAS...I don't have VAS.

Just made a mini water pipe that is so small it is bungeed to a 14mm nail adapter. It actually rests on top of my microphone stand of a a glass setup. I do feel like I'm stepping up to the mike to vape. Thanks you FC !! RAWK ON and goodnight!!

Welcome brother. I am sorry to say but if you have spend $1000's on an Ecig habit you are fucked son. Sorry but there is nothing that can be done now :2c:. You can only minimize the damage you do now you are talking glass.

Just stay out of the glass threads as that can be a slippery slope if you like the shiny shit. I suggest getting a reasonable quality bubbler (i linked a beauty above for under $50) & DDave kit. You do not need anything else for your EQ except the consumables you put in it.

@Stevenski thinks you might have an E-cig thing that might correlate into VAS.( Yes, E-cigs are a realm unto itself and can get expensive getting all those special fittings.)
He is just looking out for you. A reasonable quality bubbler with thick glass and a sturdy base will set you off to vaping bliss.:brow: I have given my 2 cents on this thread a few pages back as to what I'm looking for in a bubbler and I don't plan on spending more than $40 for a single piece and that's during tax season. DHgate is on holiday for 9 days, and the shop isn't going out of business. So it's homemade vapes until then. (But the FC-278 above would suit me to a tee. Amirite? :science:under $40.00 too!) With a possible wider throat silicone cork-glass stem solution for under say $15.00. Then go modular with the vape glass on a budget. I swear that I won't go through my neighbor's recycling bin for water bong candidates. That would be a pretty pathetic version of VAS indeed. Although, I have bought certain glass food containers for the glass jar bonus. :peace:

I try & limit my reckless spending these days but if I can drop $10k on Transformers that I has a passing interest in I could do it very easily with something I have had a love affair with for 25 years. I probably should not assume some people here are as compulsive as I can be but when I see an early post saying "shiny shit everywhere $200 bongs" I side with old mate penguin

I think we all have vas, but it only truly shows itself when you have spare money,,,,

I think if I won the lottery, or just if money was no object, I would not stop buying vapes and glass.

Wouldn't you???

I'd have a purpose built vape room, like people have movie rooms with wall to wall dvd's, except I'd have wall to wall vapes and glass....

I like to think that I only need one of 'each type'. Whatever that is supposed to mean.

Popped a coarser one in and holy moly that's not even that much weed maaaaaaan. ;) ^^^^

No bigger than a nano pack in there I swear. Cause I just put a little wax in there and wowzers.

Herb gardener...
After much deliberation and reading of glass threads, iv decided to take the plunge and buy a water tool...

Iv never tried vapour through water, and have been skeptical about it removing actives or just the irritation, which I like...

Anyway I got sick of trying to decide between all the types, and just ordered this...

http://m.dhgate.com/product/product...colator-smoking/187214099.html/187214099.html

Can some one please tell me if this will be ok for my eq, I'm worried now that iv bought the wrong one,

Also when I was enteringy address into dhgate, they didn't list the county I live in, so worried about that too....

@throwawaytre3s , did you get one of these???

Reassurance anyone??????
