The Extreme-Q Vaporizer

Thankyou @CuckFumbustion. The cyclone bowl it shall be! It's only mid-afternoon here but i shall get set up tonight and report back tomorrow.

The vapes i've been using so far have been really good but i feel like the q will be a better fit for me. My dbv is a great vape but i seem to combust about once a week (really, really hate that) and i struggle a bit to regulate the temp with my breathing. I never feel like i'm in control with it. I also use a ha, another great vape, but unfortunately its max temp is 200c. It's not quite hot enough for me. I plan to use all my vapes and learn to use them properly but it's the q that really seems to fit my needs.

I'm really excited to be finally about to use my q!
FC has got to be the best website - knowledgeable, friendly and supportive to newcomers. There is no other place like it online. Discovering FC has actually changed my life and the way i use and think about mj. You people are freakin' awesome...

Hi @DDave! Thanx for your reply. Wow, i feel like i'm talking with a vapor celebrity! Thankyou for your visionary work .
I hope to purchase a DDave kit in the next couple of weeks.
Now, I'm not too fussed about taste, to be honest. I'm still learning about vaping and not really sure what i like yet :hmm:.

Have had a bit of a think and here's what i've been doing so far:
My sessions tend to be fairly relaxed. I only vape at night and have plenty of time. I'm also not into clouds (feels like a bit of a waste, but i'm not really sure if that's case?) but i like a bit of visible vapor so i know that everything is working correctly.
I will be using temps ranging from about 170c up to 230c (have just transitioned from smoking bongs and like the higher temps for couch-lock and sleeping). I also plan to use bags in my backyard over summer but that is still 2 months away.

I like to keep things simple/low maintenance and just like getting stoned...god, could i be any more unsophisticated ?
Hopefully as i gather more experience i will become a bit more of a connoisseur and stop embarrassing myself, ,lol.

@bella, thanks for the kind words! I'm grateful that you see value in mods!

From the following and considering the glass you have currently:
* new to vaping, just quit smoking (I assume)
* not flavor seeking, but not looking for clouds, but visible vapor.
* looking to get elevated (stoned)

Would advise a cyclone bowl session at a higher temp. Since the cyclone bowl allows the herbs to move around freely, and you control how much of the goodies you get by how you draw/hit, this may be the best option to start experimenting with. With the cyclone bowl, and its loose screen, be careful of taking too fast a draw or the screen may rise vertically and product can fall onto your heater. Not a catastrophic event, but doesn't taste so good and at high enough temp, the bits can combust (tasting really bad!).

The short F/F adapter which has been coined the DDave adapter, that is good for quicker extractions and clouds. The screen is not loose, so you can draw rapidly and cause an "elbow" packed condition to occur resulting in denser clouds. This doesnt appear to be what you seek at the moment.

For later reference, all the kits I offer have a tall F/F adapter which gives a very similar experience to the cyclone bowl but have an improved airflow/airpath and a screen that is not loose. They are for sessions as you describe.

Hope that helps. One of my favorite things about the EQ is that with the right pieces, there is quite a lot of variety in sessions to be had.

(For best sessions, regardless of glass pieces being used, at minimum. allow the cyclone bown or F/F to heat up 10-15 minutes prior to your session. The EQ doesn't mind being left on. I know many who leave theirs powered up for 16 hours a day.)

Hi @bella, Glad you found FC and DDave. Well since you seem a little overwhelmed and as to where to start. If you are into a patient hookah session, maybe start with a cyclone session?

You have already decided on a good temp range between 170 - 230 C. A cyclone session is fun to watch the herbs do their dance and their is no pressure as far as the herb wastage. The entertainment value alone makes it worthwhile. You can figure how to sip and coax the vapor. Instead of the pressure of finishing an elbow pack. I would start at your 170C then sip away.
Then step up the temp at 4 degrees at a time then sip, 4 more degrees then sip until you reach 210C. You will notice how things go from green to light brown to dark brown. the taste profile will change as you raise the temps a step at a time. If you notice all the subtle changes in taste and vapor quality as you progress, then Congratulations, you are now an EQ connoisseur.

Elbow packs are good for bag sessions and quick rips. There is something more as to how dense of a pack works for you. And more emphasis as to how well ground your herbs are.
A little more trial and error is required in getting that EQ-uation right. Temperature has more of an impact also. So that might be the more advanced and have more of a learning curve.

The DDave kit @DDave offers is the path of least resistance for modders. Not that you couldn't build on that foundation either. I like my personal setup and his. The versatility of having both has allowed me to have a modular setup. :science:
@CuckFumbustion has great advice and much knowledge in the art of EQ as well!

I have to agree with his suggestion of cyclone bowl usage as well, for what you currently seek.

I've appreciated his feedback on the mod, kits, and am looking into suggestions he's made for future additions/improvements as well.

Enjoy the evening!

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
Thank for the props @bella. Glad I and others could help with your decision. Also remember to preheat the cyclone bowl for best performance. Just leave it at your 170C for a good 5 minutes before adding your herbs. (Think pre-heated oven.) That way when you sip, the glass will keep it's own heat better and make for a better session. Look forward to hearing back from you. Oh and...FC rocks.:rockon:Wooooooot.

And @DDave thanks again for all the props and the encouragement you have given me here at FC.

@bella Hi there... All I do is attach the whip and pack the bowl and use it. Simple as. I dont have any attachments or anything, just jump in and give it a go! I dont use the bags at all as I am very happy just using the whip.

If you are unsure about anything you can youtube others using it and see how it works.

I've had my EQ for years now and sometimes I use it so much that I soak my screens in isopropyl alcohol for a few days and twirl it around to clean them, I bought a few large bottles of isopropyl alcohol off ebay and it's great for cleaning them.

I hope that helps.

ISO and Q-tips are essential for any vapist. IMO  I can get 91% ISO at any pharmacy. But perhaps their is better choices? I do want to find a proper ISO for reclaim once I re-educate myself. For tough cleaning jobs ISO and sea salt. Sometimes I use sea salt as an abrasive then ISO with the screens. Both react together so well, an hour soak does the trick for me.
But an overnight ritual of screen soaking maybe a convenient habit.

Yeah my bottle says IPA 100% pure 1 litre (I have 2 bottles) ISO ALCO. I have about 5 or 6 of the dome screens and when I am down to my last one I soak the others and a few of the flat ones all at once in a tallish plastic measuring jug and pour in the ISO so that it's a just a bit over the top of them all and I leave it over night, or 2 or even 3 nights depending how quickly I need them again and every now and again I will shake it around in a circular motion to move it all around a bit, then I drain it outside in between some pavers to get rid of the ISO and then i'll collect the screens again and give them all a quick rinse to remove any last bits of stuff that's hung around. Then they are pretty perfectly clean again.

I used to use rock salt and metho on my glass bong, but since I dont combust I dont need to do that anymore. I actually gave my double chamber glass bong away to a mate recently as I'm not planning to go back to combusting.. It's been years now since I have 'smoked' anything so I am pretty confident I am never going back to 'smoking'.

Gosh, thanks to everyone! I feel a lot more confident now

I've only been vaping for a month even though i've been lurking for years. I found it impossible to transition to vaping until i finally took everybody's advice and took a two week t-break (my tolerance was ridiculously high). Once i did that, it was surprisingly easy to make the swap. Now i'm working on learning how to use my vapes :brow:.

@VapeHeadz, i buy my iso from woolies or coles. About $10 for 345ml bottle. Would i be better off buying it from ebay?
Thanks for your advice too, it's good to know that the q is also awesome without any mods. I'm really looking forward to tonight's session .

I actually grind the screens into a flat tray of sea salt. The tray being a yogurt lid.:haw: Sometimes it pushes out those flecks on their own. Then I drizzle with ISO and soak then shake. Then re-crush the screen into the salt again. Had to come up with a solution for cleaning my flowermate screens which is more problematic than an ordinary 'pipe' screen.

Herb gardener...
I used the bags at first but now I only use whip. Don't get the tickly satisfaction from bags. Also I feel like the vapour jus goes a bit stale in the bag. Certainly not as tasty as the whip for me.

I know what you mean about it all being overwhelming. My solution to that was to jus keep putting herb in and use trial and error to see what works for me. I am currently awaiting my ddave kit. But as far as the standard kit goes.
I mainly elbow pack and have one very tasty hit at 210, then a less tasty but denser hit at 220. Then I stir and repack then hot again at 230 and it's gone. This takes me about 10 mins.
If I decide to have a cyclone session then that takes an hour. I start at 170 and work my way to 220 in 5s gradually, stiring every 3 or 4 hits.
That's my method but that's about to change when my mod gets here.

Ah, if you're seeking that tickling pinch in the back of the throat, the short adapter with elbow pack may be the ticket!

I have gotten very consistent gaseous vapor with @DDave's short 18mm adapter and wand. Perfect for bags IMO. Almost no dissipation with my setup and his combined. But the hose that comes with the kit is adequate. Once I board the U.S.S EQ Cucky and travel back to the planet Vape-topia, :freak: I'll go into that detail at some point. Vapor being the atmosphere of their home planet. Lovely planet, BTW. It's native inhabitants have never even heard of Combustion. :p

@kellya86, I meant doing an 'elbow' type pack using the 'tip' hat that comes with DDave mod kit on Ebay. To avoid any confusion to new EQ users, here a pic from the full Mod kit.
The 'tip' hat is designed to work hand in glove with the wand that comes within that well designed mod kit below. (The 'tip' hats also seem to work well with any generic 18mm fitting.)
Notice how the mesh and shape of the hat is different from say the standard stock EQ elbow screens. Here is the link.
The DDave Mod V2 & NEW DDave Mini Mod for Arizer EQ and VTower Vaporizers
They fit snugly with the wands that are provided in the pic. Unlike say the Stock EQ screens that have a tendency to fall out of their own stock glass pieces. What a pain.
Forgot how annoying that was when I was using stock only. Arizer take notice.

@ataxian , thank you! Your feedback is much valued.

With all this talk of GSC, my next batch will, no must, include some!

It's all making sense to me now so thanks. Pics help.
@ataxian, I love my q as it is (stock)
I'm wondering how much better it can get. Never used another vape so nothing to rate against. People talk as if the eq is useless stock. Can't wait for ddaveday to arrive.

First I had a Mod, then a Kit.... Now I have a "day"!!!! &

Please let me know a day before your kit arrives, if possible.... I may have to make a surprise announcement! :o

Vape on and everyone - have a great weekend!

Hey Bella, are you Aussie as well? I didnt even know I could buy it at Woolies or Coles haha. I just ordered a 5 litre ISO container for $45 off ebay yest(inc postage).

When I first bought my Q many years ago and I was still smoking bongs I found it hard to get into using the Q because I thought it wasnt getting me as high and the 'hit' wasnt there like a bong, because I was for so many years smoking bongs with friends and we'd mix tobacco with our weed. What helped me alot to get away from the bongs and tobacco was buying the little brother or sister of the extreme q the solo. So now I had a plug in vape AND a portable vape and I forced myself to use either of them every time I wonted to 'smoke'.

After a while of not using the bong the habit of using the vapes only took over and the addiction of my smoking just went away and became less and less desirable. As I said above I even gave my bong away. I no longer ever buy tobacco or any lighters or matches. AND my chest is SO much better, I was really killing myself from bongs/tobacco. I'm alot happier. I do feel sorry for other friends and family who are still stuck in addiction of tobacco and smoking weed, but I have noticed quite a few of my friends and family are becoming very curious to vaping, a couple have joined in to vaping and a couple more have said they wont to head in that direction too. I think vaping is becoming more and more popular, I kind of wish I had never smoked and vaped from day 1 but oh well.
