Herb Grinders

is there any real difference in performance between a cosmic and a Santa Cruz?
The Cosmic I have is a small 4 piece with really big holes. I don't know your hole size but in general, your "too many turns" theory doesn't make sense to me, since once the herb is broken up enough to pass through the holes, it's gone. You only get a finer grind if you turn the grinder upside down, basically turning it into a 2 piece.

I have a 2.5inch 4pc Cosmic and it gives me a medium grind. Clean that thing and take care of it, should serve ya well for years.
I'd agree that there's little to be gained by replacing your Cosmic. It's a very good brand. If you really find you're getting too fine a grind, try grinding just a little and just dump it out, reloading the pieces you'd like to grind further. Also, never let it get gummed up. It only takes a couple of minutes to clean with alcohol and a toothbrush.

I put whole nugs in small grinders as well and never had an issue. I have even had it a bit on the outside oops, hence why my grinders on the outside rim are so gummed up. I guess I should really clean them all at once. That would be a lot of reclaim.

Well I got my scs large today but it came in the wrong color and it was two tone for some odd reason. I bought it the same place adobewan did and am waiting for a call back. It also feels a bit light to me and I would imagine it would be a lot heavier then my two piece medium, but it isn't. I think I will weight them tomorrow for fun.

My face is melting...
I use a XL4 pc. Rasta Cosmic for my first grind. This thing has a crazy deep storage well and it works great for storage between the 1 Liter containers that I store the buds in and my final grind using a cheap 2.2" 4 pc Sharpstone. I use the upside-down method on the second grind and it's done to vaping perfection.

I was going to gift the Sharpstone and get a nicer 4 piece that can fit in my pocket, but realized the value of a cheap carry-around since I fumble it frequently on hard floor surfaces.....wouldn't want to do that with something real nice.

The Cosmic Case quality is superb.

Well I kept the wrong color grinder as they were out of stock on the color I wanted and I didn't put a real phone number as I never do. All I can say is wow. This is so much better then the two piece scs as it is smoother and fluffier. I am very pleased. I ground up a quarter in a moment. It normally takes me longer even with my 3" grinder or no name but fairly good. The only thing I didn't like is the herb chamber is a bit smaller then I would like.

I ruined my volcano grinder last week by using 99.5% ISO to clean it. If I get another one, what should I clean it with? A weaker solution of ISO or something else?

Cheers

Was that with 'long' soaking it ? Just curious, as I can't see it affecting the plastic with a quick wetting & brushing followed by a hot water & soap cleaning since I use ISO for many plastic (non related) things quite often with that regime

Use a brush.... just a dry brush.
for as long as you are able to get away with it.
then... take a toothbrush dipped in 70% Iso and brush around briskly...
rinse once with Iso (fill each half swirl, and dump)
then do this again with warm water and dish soap....
Follow with a GOOD rinse.
dry with vacuum cleaner or canned air.

I have two grinders in regular rotation, an unbranded aluminum and a blue-anodized spacecase.
I use @Vitolo's method above to regularly clean the plain aluminum one.
The spacecase hardly ever needs cleaning in comparison, I think because of the anodizing.

Almost there...
I have been in and out of this thread trying to decide what type of grinder to get.
I have a tiny 4 piece Sharpstone that works quite well, it is just too small. If i have a lot of grinding the small diameter really hurts the arthritis in my hands.
WHen i bought my NO2 long ago it came with one of those orange Storz&Bickel grinders.
This was my first grinder!!! And to put it in perspective i smoked and rolled for the previous 19 years and never used a grinder before...

Anyway a brand was mentioned a while ago "TITAN CNC" available on ebay.
Apparently they are pretty good.
I bought the 4 piece and should have it in a week or so!
My first real grinder!!

Thanks for all the reviews and input in this thread!
Makes decisions even harder!! LOL!

I've been using sharp crusher for one and a half years now. Here and there I get metal shrapnels on it and I'm thinking of getting a new quality grinder soon. Looking at some new ones like the chef range or mendo mulcher 4 piece.

I've been using my Mulcher for a while and have to mention that if anyone is considering a medium sized mulcher, I highly recommend going with their gripped option. I chose a fugly, as the gripped option wasn't available at that time and I really wish it was. I notice the only downside being that sometimes I can't start the initial turn when its really loaded. The gripped option would prevent this (I assume).

I do feel I would have been more satisfied with a SCS though, even though I haven't used it I feel it would be a better choice if you can afford it. If I load it 75% the initial turn becomes quite a pain for my hands.

Buy a SCS you won't regreet ;)

Yea, I did have a medium 2pc spacecase but I ended up giving it away. I feel sc is a bit too expensive for what I'm doing.

Anyone have any experience or know about the smart crusher grinder? Their reviews on amazon seems very very decent.

He isnt talking about a spacecase (not sure if you knew). But the titan cnc looks like a quality sc clone. That ebay seller also has many other grinders.

I believe ^ the mflb finishing grinder is on massdrop now.

Whoops too late to edit my post above, but when I said spacecase I meant that's what I am--because I actually meant sharpstone. My anodized sharpstone never needs cleaning, it's my best grinder. I have another brand new one on standby so I do wonder what the big deal is with the scs's and mm's.
