Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

Got my 3rd Davinci Ascent back from customer service Friday and it is the new carbon fiber model and it is simply beautiful. I hope this is the last time I have to send it back because i have truly been spoiled by just the taste of the herb alone. I have had the ascent since November and have gotten a good technique with it using some small square glass beads instead of the flowers. I like these because there is not a chance of breaking the stems as with the flowers. I get good hits and great taste. At low temps the clouds aren't very thick but the hotter the temp the thicker the clouds. The thickness of the clouds don't matter to me because I get well medicated and i like to start at a low temp and go through the range all the way to 428F. There is a vape temp chart in a thread here at FC Cumbustion..It really helps and you really save a lot of herb. I am new to vaping and have been reading for about a year before I bought the Ascent. It has had a few bugs but I am willing to give it a try and hope they get the bugs ironed out. Actually I think I am going to order a spare.

One thing in your post is weird, though: This photo seems impossible to me, how did you manage to get the grill & the inner bowl on one picture ;-)?

I believe that is the "top" of the bowl and the rest of the unit, where the glass stem would be. The inner bowl would be on the opposite side of the grill and we wouldn't be able to see it.

That's not the bowl, it's the upper section where you insert the glass stem.

The bowl is actually the bottom of the upper portion showing the glass screen and stem assembly behind the round metal screen.

Still waiting on the battery to die to see if it helps with the heating problem. Da vinci better send me a croc skin or carbon to replace this stealth. Stealths easily have the highest failure rating

You do realize that the only difference is the skin they apply to the outside, right? If stealth models are reported for problems more often, that is almost certainly because there are more of them out there.

Someone did find the same glass flowers across the pond. Not sure if it was ebay or what, but it's mentioned in this thread somewhere.

IIRC it was a German or UK shop, there were lots of variations, higher priced (but no doubt better quality).....Roor brand I think?

Gusy, because finally Ascent is in EU SHOP i want to buy it. But it`s almost impossible to read all this thread... I needs a discreet vaporizer. I vape very small package of dry herbs (0,5gram). So is Ascent gonna be a right choice or should i buy other portable vaporiser ? If some other vappe, what do you recommend from http://www.vaposhop.com/ ? <== They have 1AE1 version of Ascent. Is this good ?

Barca.. love that city, lucky you! + you never have to be afraid to run out of stash.

No problem shipping there; using an cushioned envelope it's cheap. The ones from Ama cost about 21€ incl. shipping.

Funny how much confusion my picture caused..damn stoners ^^ But I guess the mystery has been resolved now.

You could still consider the ones in the UK though.. the smallest Roor ones would fit it 4,24€ pP is fine with you.

Wonder what exact size the Amazon flowers got?!

I recently purchased the Da Vinci Ascent through the company's website, and so far I've had nothing but headaches! I am just now on my second ascent, having produced no vapor in now both units, I am beginning to think this device's sole purpose is to just burn the product with no payoff. I sent the first one back, paid the $10 shipping fee, they received it in 3 days, but it took them 12 days to send the new unit back. I received it yesterday, charged it all night, woke up this morning to use it, and it just burnt up a good amount of herb in 30 minutes. I am using 375, 385, 395, 405, 415, but I have only found the unit to produce any vapor only between the temperatures 425-430 degrees. Why!? The max IS 430, and I am pulling so much harder than I would with a bowl, just to get bits of vapor, and a burning pain in my throat....ugh!!! Is it too late to get my money back!? What the hell am I doing wrong!?

I just feel so disappointed that I may have wasted $274 on this thing...

Also, as a side note, I used to own the snorkel da vinci for a few months before it died. This Ascent was intended as an upgrade. I used the original da vinci at about 374 degrees and it performed beautifully, so I'm not sure why this unit will not hit at 375-410....

This. Don't pull hard, you're overpowering the heater. Try waiting a little after it reaches the set temperature, then pull gently. When you start to feel resistance, reduce your pull a little. Make sure your material is dry and use at least a medium grind.

I was wondering though, if there is a way to prevent the herb from getting lodged into the holes of the glass stem?

Yeah, don't pull so hard.

How big is your load? I don't get this problem because I use small loads with the glass jar as a spacer.

Yes, I use the oil jar without the top. I usually put in about .07g. It goes under the jar. I've placed one of the screens over the holes in the bottom of the heating chamber to prevent loss through those holes.

IMO it's technique. The "pulling so much harder than I would with a bowl" is exactly what's doing it. Don't do that, this is a vape not a bong. No fire here. Only modest heat you have to control. Heating stuff up more to make up for poor technique is not going to feed the bull dog. You're on the edge of combustion, well into 'bad taste' country, at top whack as it is, more degrees will bring more (and new) problems.

In those experiments I showed that as soon as you start hitting the temperature goes DOWN in the load. Down. It's as hot as it's ever going to be before you hit. Hitting it hard enough (as you are) will drop the temperature 100 DEGREES OR MORE, clearly impacting vapor production. You'd need to start at 550F or something?

I don't think there's anything wrong with your unit, I suggest you work on technique. Do what others have found successful rather than trying old blazing ideas? Lots of good advice here, including using the glass flowers (which thus far 'everyone' has reported improvements with?). Cranking the heat all the way up and honking on it is not the answer IMO.

What I tried today - don't know if recommendable - is covering the bottom in my hand the whole time while heating up and between hits (took some time here to let it heat up again as read elsewhere) and while slowly sucking I still covered it in my hand, just giving the air some space. Resulted in more vapor, heat and coughiness.

The oil jars come with the Ascent. The glass screens need to be purchased separately.

I think he uses it this way:

Add a small screen to the bottom of the bowl so material doesn't drop through.

Add .07g of flower (will cover the screen at this point).

Take an oil jar, and remove the black top from it. Place it like so into the bowl, so that it goes over the flower.

So I let the ascent run out of battery to the point it wouldn't turn on (2days). Turned it back on with charger and still doesn't heat up. Will try with full charge in a few hours. But looks like this didnt fix shit

So I'm thinking about giving the Ascent a try actually. I bought the newest Solo off Puffitup but I still feel like this could be the perfect vape. I on'y bought the Solo because I was still worried about getting a defective Ascent... Do you guys know what their return policy is? Like if I buy one and it does turn out to be one of those bad units and I don't even want to deal with it, can I return it and NOT get a replacement unit, but a refund instead??
