@OF I've never taken my unit apart further than the top screw lid. Is there something in the system (other than batteries) that could degrade over time resulting in increased heating time? I'd say try cleaning the bowl but I'd assume you would be able to see if there was enough buildup to increase thermal capacity by that much.

Yea it is just confusing to me that in the time it takes for my M1A1 solo to reach temp 2 the new M1C1 can reach temp 6-7. I thought that was way too quick to be actually heating but like I said when I was testing it seemed to be producing hits normal to temp 4. Maybe they have improved the heat up time or the new unit is more 'fresh' and thus can heat up faster than my worn in one. I will definitely be reporting back this evening after I try it out some more. :D

It's obviously not. To do so would call for radical increases in power. The indicator is giving a real indication of temperature I think, just not temperature closely linked to load temperature in real time. It's that 'minute or two to stabilize' bit that tells the tale I think?

We're not talking a small improvement in time here, and there's no vapor to in 20 seconds from cold to support the display contention that it's really that hot in there.

Not anything like that. And guys never reported this in the past. It will degrade slowly over time a bit I think, but the change will be small compared to (and totally be swamped by) battery condition. I would expect less than 10% over hundreds of hours and 3 or more times that over a battery charge cycle. That is an old Solo with a tired battery freshly charged should beat a brand new one on step 5 or so battery level. And that's only start up time, remember that the actual temperature doesn't change (normally) since it's "inside the loop". The controller just leaves the lower power on a second or two longer each cycle if needed to correct for changes.

IIRC you're not the first to report this, which makes perfect sense to me from a nerd POV.....doesn't seem to satisfy some though does it? Their unit is doing just what it's supposed to do, just doesn't look like the next guys ?

Fun failure, but I'm not sure it's really significant, let alone fatal.

Thanks. Good luck with it. Works neat, don't it?

My M1C1 was heating up too quickly, it would still produce vapour, but definitely not getting to the same temps as my other working unit. Couldn't get dark ABV on 7, it came quite a lot lighter in colour than my other unit after a full 12 min session.

So I think some units are definitely off somehow, maybe in the calibration of the temp sensor?

so I just got word my solos getting delivered today. so ancccy :rofl:
just wondering what I should do upon unpackaging, heard some people talking about running it through some heat cycles first.

1st thing i will do is fully charge it, then inspect, maybe runn it on 7 for a bit then do I just blast her?

anyone with tips on first use it is much appreciated
First of all congratulations!

Charge her first!
Run a cycle on 7.
VAKE away!

Cleaned my PHVES stem then had a SOLOLOCK!

LEVEL 4 = DUTCH TREAT= Not bad at all!
O' Yeah!
OG mixed with GSC x level 4 in a PHVES = No PAIN!

You bought a new solo because you were worried about a minute amount of glass dust? Why not just take it apart? Very easy to do. You don't even have to take it all apart, just take the cap off and examine it. Compressed air can be your friend.

EDIT: Also how did it break? Many large pieces or dust like? I think the chances of the "sucktion" being enough to pull the dust through the stem is low and even lower if your using a bong.

So it tipped over while in my bong and when the solo hit the pressure snapped the gOg stem at the base. When I was trying to remove the broken stem I had to use needle nose pliers as it was wedged into the over area so there was a lot of shattering and grinding going on as I removed it. This is why I am so concerned about minute glass particles remaining. I did do a compressed air type of clean but I'm not convinced I got everything. That is why ordered a new one.

I totally understand your sentiment though, I struggles myself with whether or not it was necessary and decided 170$ was less of a cost than potentially getting glass in my lungs. The mental comfort is nice too. I was just wondering if I could gift my other solo to someone and if it could be made safe. I already told him what had happened to it and he is open to using it if we can figure out a way to really clean it.

The issue here is glass dust, particles so small they are unlikely to get trapped in any herb in the stem or small enough to get through any filter. Thanks for the input though, and I was glad to see your point of view because it makes me optimistic that we can figure this out.

I'm having the plug into charger and then it continuous beeps problem. I know why it happens, it's when I plug it into the charger while it's still on. I've fixed this before but I can't remember how I did it. I've seen people say I need to reset the Solo but 814 pages and I can't find the instructions. Any help?

My opinion remains to start by using it as designed and delivered until you 'know it' well. For many (most even....) the factory trim is just fine for the task. Remember, this is a mature product. Not only is it highly likely that the maker considered all the options (like extra venting on the stems) and for what they consider sound reasons they chose this configuration. They were looking for customer satisfaction to make all those lovely sales numbers even bigger.

I'd wait until you have a personal base and a plan on improvement that's based on something more than random Internet guy's opinions? PV will take your money in due time....not to worry.

I must say the PHVES is very nice.
However basic and solid in design is the SOLO the stock stem works very!
I broke out some stock stems of OG!
With the seal!

Then I must concur, my good friend.

It does work very but personally once I started using all the accessories I've never gone back to stock.

COOL! What kind?

Sorry, I had too.

Or maybe this one??

Haha I hope you weren't vapin' with this seal, Ataxian :uhoh:
Okay that was the last one I promise

I use the PHVES and the STOCK stems.
Love them both!

Funny the picture of SEAL.
I sat with him on a chair lift while skiing.
He's a very nice guy and had a hot chick next to him.

I applaud your concerns over safety. IMO a much better plan than ignoring stuff......

However, I'm not sure it's really all that big a risk? There's a lot of junk in the air, notice a strong sunbeam from the shadows? Most pretty harmless of course but out bodies are set up to deal with it. We filter with hairs, have chambers with mucus lined cavities that work like those 'bagless vacuums' to trap debris in the airstream and cilia in out lungs to move junk that makes it in and gets stuck back out.

Some things, like glass shards and rock dust don't respond all that well to this system, some remain and are generally captured and encapsulated in our tissues to be buried with us. Afflictions like Silicosis are cumulative. You get it over dozens of years of breathing rock dust every day, LOTS of rock duse, not a single brief exposure.

I don't mean to dismiss your legitimate concerns. The risk is yours, the decision should be as well. I just suggest researching it a bit might lead to to agree with me that a small bit of glass is little different from the much larger numbers of rock dust particles and the like you've already breathed in and not out.....and the ones sure to come?

After all, the disease is called Silicosis because it comes from breathing silica (Silicon oxides.....like glass) dust generally? And lots of it, incidental time in the mines didn't cause problems.

Regards.

Personal safety is important around glass, but I can't help thinking a $5 magnifying glass could have verified if there was glass dust present or not. They make small battery-powered vacuums for electronics work that might help.

Has anyone had this happen? Using my PNWT and 14mm PVHEGonG just about done a 12min session and the solo suddenly feels way hotter, can hear this noise coming out of it, immediately shut it off, take WT off, remove stem, tap contents on table and it's soaked! Somehow a good drop or two of water got into Gong soaking the herb?
This has happened once before with the WT , never had this happen with my FBomb which I've had much longer. I don't think there's a problem with it, just finished a another session with it and all's real good!

I had that happen twice. It was from putting just a bit too much water in the PNWT.
I am currently using my Mobius Ion Matrix since I was using various adapters to allow the
use of the PNWT. Once I receive my 14mm PVHEGonG adapter I will give it another try,
but with less water this time.

Just got my solo it's also a m1B1. and thought to give my impression on this unit:

I was waiting for the Ascent but got fed up of waiting!

Before I go on I think its a fantastic device!

I'll go for the cons first:
The odd sucking method takes a little to get used to. the methaphore of 'its like sucking a stone through a straw is pretty acurate, but you do get used to it and actually becomes kind of addictive (most be that old residue feeling of breastfeeding or sucking my thumb? )
I have a dremel(tool) I will soon experiment with my spair tubes and create my own PVHES stems and see how it improves that air flow...
I was also not prepared for those extremely loose stems floating about (once heated because at first they did not even go in easely, but once eated, well it would fall out of the unit if turned upside down) I have now bought an extra ring from a pllumber shop @ 1.50 Euro (for 5) and its now SUPER tight, why on earth are they not supplied with the unit???
Another thing, why did they not add a tiny crack in the unit to hide a toothpick (a little like the ones in the Swiss army knifes) takes no space but so handy!!
I also bought the fancy wooden stem, but god does it smell fishy, gambas/prawn like, maybe the smell will go eventually, but so far I'm not impressed.

So thats it for my cons

The pros:
I love that baby
Well the second one and most important, it works beautifully!
It sends you where you want in no time
So easy to use
So quick to heat up
Love the timer, otherwise I do not know when to stop medicating (ExtremeQ)
Yes its not as tiny as my MLFB but fits in my pocket (coat/jacket) comfortably
With all these smoking pens around these days people do not really look at you odly, and propably think, poor you! you have a really old one (so chunky)
The other day the cops drove past and I immediately switched it like if it was a phone, guess what, they probably thought, poor him! what an antic of a phone ;)
Loves that it fits in a fastfood cup

Well thats about all I can think.

I do wish I had bought it much earlier!

I'd love to name the shop where I bought it, as the service was next to none!!( an FC menber) but I do not know if I am aloud?

...Keep on vaping...

I think that's exactly right. We had an informal experiment showing how much more effective steam heat can be over normal convection. The water instantly boiled taking LOTS of energy doing so (which is why Fire Fighters use it on the hot stuff...), that steam was in turn forced by pressure to move (much more effective than normal convection currents). Once out of the area it wants to cool back to liquid water giving up that huge 'reserve' (called latent heat) of energy, which is why steam burns are so much more dangerous than the same temperature air is.

Another reason to avoid it is should you splash enough on the got glass of the bowl part you could have that part shatter on you.

Best to not overfill.

Did some experimenting this morning. Taking the solo to its natural habitat up here in the great white north. Skiing couldnt come any sooner

beautiful. I cant wait to get back on my feet and go on an adventure with my solo worry free.

I think the PNWT is designed badly tbh. The distance between the top of the Micro showerhead slits and the air intake tube on mine is about 10mm... doesn't leave much room for error or tipping/using any way other than vertical once you've covered those slits with water.

If the splash guard had been higher, and the intake tube longer it would have avoided the leaks imo.

I have a similar inline water rig that has the holes much lower down and further away from the top of the intake tube, which is longer. The whole thing is a little longer than the PNWT, but's that's more to do with the mouthpiece (which I prefer) and the fact the 14mm female joint isn't recessed into the body. Can almost use it lying down
