A cheaper, still just as clean lighter alternative for combustion: a glow rod. also known as a glow wand. Its a glass stick basically with one end rounded like a ball, you torch the round end with a jet flame(blue flame) until it is RED hot, then you use it to light the herb, you just touch it to the herb and push down lightly and twist it around/rotate it to light where you want. You can get a decent torch for it for under 50 bucks and the glass piece itself should not be more then 20. Still pricey as hell just to light some stuff on fire but its cheaper then a Phedor or Ember, though there is another similar device to it for like 70 bucks, cant remember the name off hand though.

and P.S: It will still taste like nasty smoke

I think I would burn my house down with the hemp wick but that Phedor sounds like a plan now where do I get one. I still may burn my house down but not as easily.

Edit: Does it last forever and a day cause at $150 it better. Wow that is expensive.

The only reason I know about the Phedor is because an acquaintance of mine has one that he picked up at the local shop. I'd say it's well over a year and a half old and it looks and works like new. He's used it mainly to light the bowls out of his bong, but I assume it would just a well through a pipe. I know that he has vaped oil with it as well. It will light just about anything very quickly . The downsides are that it has to be plugged in to work and there is no on/off switch so I recommend keeping something very close by that you can lay it down upon. It should last for a very long time if taken care of.

Again not to be a snob, but I will pass on a glowing rod burned by a blow torch. To much work and I also don't want to burn anyone's house down. I will just deal with an off taste until I get home(or until I get to my brothers house who has a home vape and lives in my home town) I will also be ranting and telling all my friends back home what they are missing out on.

If you're still not getting the results you want, pack it tighter! Trust me, even though it may seem weird to pack a vape, pack that tight and it will make a difference!

See I never had a problem with the taste of butane. In fact I never noticed it before I started vaping and rather enjoyed the taste of a combusted bowl of flower. I have to admit I was even skeptical of the idea of a website called FuckCumbustion. I now know I was wrong.

Same here never noticed it till now. I just tried another bowl of fresh herb and no way. Vaping for life now. This is just not satisfying. The problem is now it absolutely delivers my meds differently and better in a lot of ways so now I am really stuck. I guess I will try a hemp wick since I am not going to pay 150 for a lighter.

just curious, but does anyone have an idea of where to get a 9V charger that would replace the one in the Pax? I've tried Radio Shack and Fry's with no luck.

radio shack has them. you need a 9v wall charger or car charger and an H tip. i made a car charger for mine and it works no problem.

prior to making a car charger i was using a small inverter to charge the pax and run my solo in the car. picked it up at walmart for $25.

I'm home!! I had a good weekend in the woods, used the pax quite a bit. Used the low setting to make my loads last longer (much tastier), and would bump up to med after I stopped getting vapor on low, then high to cap it off. I did experience more of the temp light problem when the pax was really cold from being in the car charging over night. I had to do a few clicks on the mouthpiece to get it to turn on, and this was with the new mouthpiece, and a fairly clean Pax (cleaned before I left) I used it throughout the weekend with absolutely no cleaning. Over all, I was very happy, and a lot of people were impressed with it when I let them try it.

For those of you who have the blue light, I also had that issue on my first pax. It would work if I messed with it long enough, but mostly got the blue light. It is just a defect, and needs to be replaced.

I was not aware of time being out in the woods, for keeping track of the battery life, but I did get a full day's use, well into the night before I had to recharge it. I really like the low setting. You do get some visible vapor, but it sneaks up on you when medicating on low. I took a few hits, thinking it wasn't giving me much vapor, and then turned it off. About 15 mins later, I was really feeling it. One thing I think smokers expect from vapor is the instant high. When they don't get that, they think it's no good. Vapor tends to creep in, a bit after you take it in. I had a bit of a learning curve with this one. Take a few hits, then wait, and let it take effect. It's a bit more of a patience game. You can start on high if you are looking for a really fast, to the point, vape sesh, but it won't conserve much. The low setting is very conservative, and you just have to give the oven time to warm back up between hits. I loved having the paperclip tool in the MP! Very useful and convenient. I also had my INH and mainly used it on my bubbler in the tent. I kept the Pax in my pocket the rest of the time. I even fussed with stirring and loading in the dark, and it wasn't much of a hassle. Definitely loving this amazing little vape.

Still want one in PURPLE!!!!

Thats great to hear jam. I'm going to a small festival in a few weeks and I have A way of charging it over the weekend as well. Its good to hear Pax held up on a camping trip and i look forward to bringing my with me!

I'll also have my magic flight so I think it should be a great weekend with those two around.

My method for getting a real lung buster: (med setting)

Pack oven tight, take 2 long slow hits. Decent vapor.

Pop the lid, give it a good stir, pack the shit out of it. Wait a few seconds. Long big hit. Boom.

Then after 3 big hits I lather rinse repeat

that's a nice review, Jam, but doesn't it bother you or anyone else that you are already having the exact same problems you were having with the replacement piece? You had problems with the temp button and mouthpiece problems, returned the unit, and now you are having the same problems a few days later. This is concerning to me, especially given the sheer number of people with the exact same problems.

well, the temp light coming on is bothersome, but a few clicks of the mouthpiece and I'm up and running again. I can't say it's a good thing by any means, I am just working with it for now. If I find it to become more of a problem, and cleaning does not resolve the issue, I will contact ploom again. I have already been in contact with them several times over this issue, and they keep insisting it's simply a dirty contact point that just needs cleaning by actuating the moutpiece. I have done several chat sessions, but decided to start sending emails through the support page, to document my situation. Chat does not save conversation like the email does. I have a log in my account showing my emails to them, and their replies.

I am not angry with Ploom for the defect, though I am not happy with it either. So far it's only been a minor issue, which has righted itself once I get the contact to happen by pressing the mouth piece in and out for a few clicks. I can't see much point in returning this one, to get another mystery pax at this time, being without while they ship, and wondering will it work right?? From my understanding this is an issue common to electronics in general, and generally things made in china. I have a lot of experience with e cig stuff, and most of that was also made in china. There is a lack of quality control coming from the way it's being mass produced. Some work as they should, some not so well. It's a ratio, and I have already returned one unit that simply did not work right out of the box (blue light) and feel that until they figure out a better design to upgrade to, this issue may continue to occur no matter how many Pax I send in.

So for those who are on the fence about buying a pax, it's a hit or miss game right now for getting a good one. I don't know how long it will take for them to resolve this.

well that just took me from accepting an exchange, to taking a refund on my broken unit. I'm just not willing to play the lottery with Pax. I'll stick with what I have until they have a more reliable product or something better comes along.
