PUFFiT portable

I really was under the impression that the mouthpiece's sole purpose is to keep germs to yourself. You'd have separate mouthpieces for separate people. That USB port is so far back there I don't know how you'd ever get saliva in it so I think a mod like this should be just fine.

Understood. Sorry for the confusion, a bit of an inside joke I guess. A month or so back when I first suggested a window there someone suggested it would potentially let saliva in, which prompted a bit of discussion. One of those 'had to be there' things perhaps?

The 'sanitary mouthpiece' idea had never occurred to me....interesting idea. However, if I was doing it I'd close off the front as well (it's actually inside your mouth) and I'd do something about how hard it is to pry off. Doing that for each hit is not going to happen IMO.

At any rate, it doesn't matter to me since I don't share....but do not like prying the little blighter off to charge.

Thanks for the thought.

as far as being super duper stealth is concerned, this has got to be it. thing looks like a god damn inhaler lol.

This looks sweet, I would love to give this a first test! For $170 I would order one just to try it, I think my asthma is acting up.
i think my asthma is acting up too ;)

I kind of like mine, but don't agree it's good 'cover'. Especially up close (where it's more important IMO). It's way too big to pass inspection (not to mention 'the wrong color' for those who know such devices which will draw it's on attention) and nobody I know uses and inhaler that way. They uncap, shake it a time or two, hit it for a couple seconds and put it away. Nobody pushes it in (except when hitting), waits the better part of a minute, then hits it over 10 or 15 seconds that alone is going to call attention to you I think?

Being 'open' using it might fool some casual observers of course, but IMO not the important ones. LEOs and the curious might be attracted more often? Over time this will get worse as they start telling each other 'the kids have some new pot pipe that looks like a big black asthma inhaler', a day I think coming soon as this otherwise kinda neat gadget gains market share? I think it's easier and probably safer to palm something like MFLB or a vape pen in most cases.

In some circumstances vape pens tend to fit in well with the banished tobacco smokers? Just be careful to avoid the second hand smoke hanging with those guys.

OF, I remember the conversation. You ripped me a little bit :-)

That was my point.

I don't see how saliva can get in that USB port. On mine, it's so far back there that I'd be basically deepthroating this thing if I even wanted to put my mouth on the usb port. I'm serious I'm pretty sure it's in the instructions that the purpose of the plastic mouthpieces is ONLY to keep germs to yourself. So I mean if you're keeping that mouthpiece on for whatever reason you wish to, I think cutting a hole so you can plug it in yet keep it on is a great idea.

I said before in this thread I have no purpose for that mouthpiece, so I keep it at home. I'm prone to losing small pieces when I'm out and about so I keep my unit as simple as possible if I leave the house with it.

Actually the drool part came from MV, right? I did respond to your 'I'm a grown up/real man' comment.....which I agree with in principle. It's back in the 1660s, not that it matters IMO.

Germ aspects aside I still like the sleeve on it. The smooth surface is less distracting than the seams and doesn't collect 'mouth grunge' like they did. The cap seems to fit better as well when the sleeve is on.

To each his own?

Well, I changes out my silicone parts, thanks to the generosity of Carlos, and there is a significant difference. I smelled the old pieces as I removed, and the greatest offender was the tube and not the silicone ring. I wasn't unhappy before, but I am much happier with the unit now. I've always loved it for its stealth, ease of use, and great price. The swap was easy requiring only a small star head screwdriver and I urge anyone who is unhappy with the taste to do it.

So I've had my new Puffit for about 10 bowls now so I thought I would check back in...There is still an unpleasant taste, nowhere near the 1st unit, but there is still one there. The taste is really noticeable if I vape some, leave it for a few hours, then come back and finish the bowl. The battery still lasts about 1 packed bowl. So I like it but don't love it and I don't think that is going to change at this point. I have a quick question for other Puffit owners: From stirring and packing each bowl several times I always get material under the screen and it is a pain in my ass to clean each time after a bowl, so how do you guys avoid stirred and packed material getting under the screen, or do you? Thanks.

I don't really have a problem with it, easy to keep clean IMO. However, I've decided to try a fine mesh SS (half inch) screen under the stock wider mesh one. No draw or other problems so far......

The screen won't stay in on it's own, I suspect it's metric? Maybe 13 or 14mm?

I know it's frustrating to wait, but I expect it will eventually get to you, don't you? And by the sounds of it, those that got smelly ones got much improved replacements. Whether that's enough for you is of course your call.

However you will get a "New, in box" unit, you could sell it as such like CSW did and recover your bucks, right? That is you got it at a reduced price so the loss I'd think would be minor?

My friends call me "Menz"
been awhile since i last posted when i received my RMA'ed unit back. i wanted to give it some thorough tests before i cam back. and my conclusions.... well...

I still cannot taste my meds and i have been trying lower temps as well. i started on 8, lowered to 7 and now have been using 6 and the only change i notice is the heat level i feel on the back of my throat and my teeth. the silicone "heated snorkel" taste is still there but is less potent than it was so i am happy about that. i have only ran 4 or 5 bowls through it since getting it back and not run it through a cleaning cycle (which i plan to do this weekend) so maybe that silicone taste will dissapate even more after i do that??? perhaps, and perhaps not. to get any kind of clouds from it i have to use OF's method of using it and during the middle openning it and dumping the load in my hand then finger grind it up some more than put it back in the unit. and the funny part is.... IF and i mean IF i do get any clouds from this thing, its not till later in the session, not in the beginning off the first few pulls. i do get medicated from the unit but that was never the issue even with my first unit.

overall i still feel about the same as i did when i first got the unit. it's good unit for those special moments when you need some stealth. i still get better medicated feelings from it than i did from my MFLB (sorry MFLB fans but i just couldn't get what i needed from it). and the heated snorkel taste is not gone but is not as strong as it was on my first unit. i am going to keep the Puffit and use it when i feel i cant use my DBV or my solo and if the day comes and someone offers me some $$$ for it... i will sell it. i won't list in the classified because i just can't sell a subpar unit to a stranger unless he REALLY REALLY wants it.

So I just went to hit another half vaped bowl and I can taste the weird chemically taste strong again...Maybe I am just too sensitive to taste but I am starting to worry that It will not ever go away to my satisfaction. I am determined to keep trying hoping that the next bowl will be better.

not that i condone driving while vaporizing, as it's a distraction, but regardless, imagine someone drives by you and you notice they have what appears to be (at a glance) an ordinary inhaler. there are definitely blue inhalers, just like there are yellow and other colors. to me, the blue puffit looks almost identical to the blue medical inhalers. personally, i've not been all that impressed with any of the vape pens i've used, but i will admit, they do pretty much rival the puffit in regards to stealth.

As I said, it may pass a casual inspection. Probably will even. And the further the observer and more fleeting the glance the better. However, in actual use it's not good cover IMO. Nobody uses an inhaler like folks use the Puffit. They don't look at it, play with it or wait. Take it out, pull the cap, shake it up (which 'never' happens with Puffit) and hit it right then. 10 seconds max. Puffit users stare into the hole waiting to the light then hit it for ten seconds or so straight, not two. It's gonna look odd to even the casual looker I think. In the same conditions I think palming the MFLB is much better cover for instance.

Yes, blue has advantages over black, but it's the way you use it not the color that's going to attract attention I think? Too bad your vape pen experience hasn't been more impressive to you, I assume that means you haven't tried Omicron or Revolution? While I agree they are stealthy in their own right, I was saying that open use blends in with the e-cig 'smokers'. I know guys here in California (where we treat smokers like fourth class citizens.....won't even let them ride at the back of the bus.....who join the guys at the bar out in the parking lot and toke up while guys a few feet away puff madly.

I just think counting on looking like a 'harmless inhaler' is dangerous false confidence. It will work most times, but has serious flaws in regular practice. Sooner or later it will lead to grief?

I fucking love this thing. End of story. I'm getting huge clouds now, trick is to just keep hitting it once it goes off stand-by. Always have it cycling.

forgive my ignorance, what do you mean by this?? are you saying, press the top cap, start the red light blinking, when it goes to green, hit it and keep hitting it past the green light turning orange and back to red?? man you have some deep lungs..... i sometimes can't do the full 10 - 15 seconds while it's green and now you say keep hiiting it beyond the green light?? please explain for my thick skull

Based on some previous posts, I think he's saying that you cycle it and just keep it hot. You cycle, draw, (exhale obviously) chill for a sec, and by then it should be ready to cycle again. You keep hitting it as fast as you can tolerate. I have been doing it this way (after double-cycling or "double tapping" my first hit) if I have the luxury of privacy and have been much more satisfied with the power of the Puffit.

Are you shaking it between hits? I find that part is important too. Get everything inside warmed up, then keep fresh material against the walls.

Don't let it cool back down, after the 15 second green window closes, push it again. You get a short (few seconds typically) heat cycle and another 15 second hit. Take it if you're ready, or wait until it times out, start it again, then hit it. I keep the load loose and shaken between hits.

Harder on the battery life, but the vaping is much better IMO. The trick is by storing heat all you need to do is heat the small amount of the load near the wall a few degrees, after that added energy makes vapor not stuff hotter.

Try it, it's easy enough. For those of you who can see the 'orange' (it not really orange, it's red and green at the same time.....) restart it right then. You can't restart on green.
