David Goldstein's Fritted Disc

I for one know how hard it is to make a living as an artist, and I fully understand wanting to protect your bread and butter. I would love to see this thread steer back into more positive direction. Let the man have his patent, and let's enjoy our pieces. I appreciate the hell out of having mine.

With all respect, who invented the frit for chemical use before anyone??? I'm sure there's a patent as well.

I got my 18" tube from NVS had it in 2 days, but I am in Eugene. Probably could have driven up but I am lazy, and didn't want to make the drive. :freak: Would have cost me the same in gas as shipping too.

Yes, Ted Dreshel patented the gas washing bottle which bears his name in 1947. Patents run for 17 years. I think I met Ted briefly back in the 80's, a little fuzzy.
Thing is, there are novel features to my product which of sufficient utility (can't use a dreschel bottle as a wp...you saw how that worked out.) to qualify as a new invention which is an improvement over prior art.

The general feeling I get is that most posters here agree that my invention is an improvement over prior art. I certainly think so.

Yes, sir Indeed. With all respect, I would love to have one of your pieces, an original Rooster, but that don't means, if someone show me an exact replica for half price, what should I do??
Again I admire your job, and very smart as well.
Feel proud of yourself, if something is being pirated it's because it's really good, IMO.

at $250 for an 18" tube w/ this gear, i don't see that happening, like ever. and if it did show up, i doubt it'd come close to quality of glass or frit. not likely to see anything close to this quality at this low of a price. and seriously zangano, i love controversy, but for a goal. what is the goal here? my two cents

You are really considering much less of the picture than it takes to have an objective disposition.
If one were to take your premise to the logical conclusion, you would never be able to leave walmart, unless they outsourced your minimum wage job to prison labor and threw you out of the store.

Do you work for a living? Would you like it if you got canned because some bottom feeder is willing to do your job for less, and you work for a bottom feeder who's happy to let you go to hire that lower priced bottom feeder?

I created living wage jobs for people on both coasts. You really want to see living wage jobs and credit due the inventor go away so you can buy something that's had every corner cut? You really want to make it not worth my time and expense to improve the state of an art you profess to care something about?

If so, my opinion is that you penny wise, pound foolish, and disinclined to afford the respect for innovation that makes innovation happen. I wish you luck with your myopia.

Well, I just want to thank you personally, Mr. Goldstein. Being a medical patient, psoriatic arthritis, my medication requirements are well beyond recreational. This can be hard on the lungs. Your device has revolutionized the way I medicate. The purity of your device is incredible, and my lungs feel so much better now. So from the bottom of my heart,

THANK YOU :luv:

Ok, zangano please go start a thread that discusses patent pending. You obviously have a lot to say about it. A lot of vapes have patent pending on their units, and I have never seen such a discussion about it. Boobs had a custom HT, everyone flocked, VXH spoke, and I haven't heard a discussion since. Please quite beating the horse, with little research one can learn a lot about patent pending, and make his own conclusion if the risk of "backcharged damages" is worth copying(stealing)someone's bread and butter.
Are we done then?
Moving on, I can't wait to get my Rasta frit. Stil haven't told the boss though...

Thanks so much for posting here Dave! Its awesome to get so much insight from my new favorite glass blower. I knew when I saw the first video I posted in this thread made by Philly Glass Connect that the fritter was gunna be huge and I had to get one right then haha. Hope to be able to purchase one of your glow in the dark orange mini cans soon as I didn't have the money this 7/10! Your convertible tube has really changed how I look at glass. You are the man!

You are most welcome. Fwiw, you are not the only person I know with psoriatic arthritis, and they have provided anecdotal evidence that oil of oregano is a good treatment for the condition. dilute with olive oil 1:3 and use topically. You will smell like an Italian kitchen, and I hope get more relief than nasty pharmaceuticals. DG

I didn't mean to start such a hub-bub about the patent thing... :o

I can fully understand why an artist would want to protect their livelihood, and IMO, they should be able to.
But from a consumers point of view, I can be somewhat frustrating at times, when you see something as friggin awesome as these fritters, and you have ideas how you would like to use them, but the original artist doesn't produce that specific item.

For example, I was thinking of getting a Fritted disc A/C made by another glassblower with one of those scientific frits, which I'm now not planning on doing, since the frits will most probably be terrible, but I've not seen or heard of any official fritted disc A/Cs...

It reminds me of a business concept I can't remember the name of now, but it's just patenting any shit you can, with no intention of using it, purely to stop your competitors doing it. IMO that crap should be illegal, as it does nothing but hurt the consumer.

I know that's not what happening here though:)

Rooster, would it be possible to buy some fritted discs from you directly, to have sent to another blower who is going to be making me a piece?
(I was gonna get an a/c, and a heady-ish bubbler made with fritters - It'd be awesome if they were legit rooster frits:))

NO. I will take action against anybody infringing my patent. Stop trying to get other glassblowers involved...and in trouble.

cold water and elongated path are both counter-productive. Apparatus works better with room temp or warmer water.
