The HI

Alan - your constant innovation is impressive. I'm excited to see how my HI benefits from what you've learned in just the last few months.

Thanks. I have had a lot of fun discoveries in the last year and a half since being introduced to vaporizers. There may still be more to discover. Time will tell.

It is an interesting time here in the states Tom. Hope it improves world wide. It should be what the people want, not what they want for the people.

can i stick my male joint in there?
How did you make your nipple boobs? Does Alan make the nipple?

It's 2 of Alan's glass tips with a screen in between and held together with some of Alan's tubing. Then I put everything in a 18 to 14 reducer. Works well, after the bowl is cashed I just flip the tip over and make a new bowl.

Just curious on the way the airflow works on these log vapes. Does the air come in through the top around the sides and then enter the heating element at the bottom?

Do you have any thoughts on how this could be used with a bag system? Id imagine physically pulling the sides of an empty bag attached to the HI would create enough suction so draw in vapour, although it may be tricky getting it to work...

Already done, you'll have to look back several pages to see the pictures though.

I think Alan came up with a 'lung' bag system.

Thanks again for the wonderful video bOObs. Two nipples are better than one it would seem. ;)

biojuggernaut - The nipples are made from sections of the 10mm glass tubes. If you flame polish the glass for too long, the end will start to close up. This gives a nice curve at the end to mate with the end of any log style vaporizer center tube. The seal is almost perfect when the alignment is perfect. Changing the angle slightly will introduce some cooler room air and you can control the roasting temperature.

Tom - The air enters the center tube through 6 holes drilled at the base. It becomes heated as it passes over the heating element. Good thinking on the empty bag idea. I had a similar one. Apparently, it is fairly common practice for people who still combust. There are several videos of people using a similar device.
I just drilled a hole in the cap and my turbo tubes fit perfectly. I use my vapor lung almost every day. I like how you get a better mix of flavor and effect. The second and third hits are generally never as tasty. If I pull a very large volume of vapor into a bag / bottle, the flavor will be somewhat mixed into every draw out of the bag. I get more tasty vapor overall. There is less of a chance of getting too much vapor as you can see exactly how much you are inhaling. The hits are much cooler too as there is some time to dissipate the heat into the bag / bottle. Thanks for the discussion OK, Jeppy, and bOObs.

Thanks SativaLover420. I'm trying to make it as flexible and versatile as possible.

I like the way you are thinking staticsunn. Its back to the shop to finish up some HI's and then I need to cut some more glass.

So if the air enters through the bottom could the HI be 'shotgunned' by blowing in through those holes? (not that most people appreciate recycled air)

There is no way to access the holes to 'shotgun' through them. I suppose an ingenious person could rig up something that blocks the air intake area leaving a small gap to force air through, which would give you the shotgun effect, but I'm no Maguyver so don't look at me!

One of my very first modifications to the Toasty Top was the addition of forced air. I made a cap that fits snugly into the hole in the top of the TT. There is a hole in the top through which a roasting tube passes. The mouthpiece fits snugly into the hole in the cap when the bowl is fully seated. The cap is hollowed out and has a hole drilled in the side. An aquarium pump is attached to a stainless tube threaded into the hole. There is a tiny valve to regulate air flow into the cap. It essentially pressurizes the core and the only exit for the air is through the roasting tube. You can just turn the valve off and on to regulate the vapor production. It worked pretty well. You can tell it is an old TT by the shape and the power supply. That was before I started curving the crown. I suppose the same modification would work with the HI or just about any other log style vaporizer.

That's crazy, Alan! Nice work, as always :)

Is there an easy way to disassemble a HI? Mine has undergone quite a bit of trauma recently and needs to be taken apart and cleaned.

I've never had to take mine apart, but I believe it came with a plastic tool that can be used to unscrew the unit from the bottom. Check back a few pages, I think this was discussed pretty recently.

In other news, I'm LOVING how my new HiSi bubbler works with the HI. Lots of cooling and moisture from a small piece. I find that I can more thoroughly brown a bowl with less stirring, it's like the bubbler allows me to power more air more quickly through the bowl. This probably holds true of all glass/vape combos, and I'm just showing my noobishness. I know a Mobius bubbler would probably work even better, but I got the HiSi from High Priority Glass for $160 shipped with the 4/20 sale, and I think that's a pretty respectable first piece at ~half the price of a Mobi.

I'll see if I can get a video up at some point, but my camera situation isn't great right now. Everyone already knows how the HI works with water based on b00bs' videos anyhow. The HiSi has less volume than b00bs' pieces, so it's kinda funny how fast the HI fogs up the HiSi regardless of lighting. Big hits can be held in a lot longer too, since your lungs only have to deal with vapor and not hot vapor, as is the case with direct draw.

My wife likes the setup a little too much - she's always tempted to cash as much of the bowl as she can on the first hit. I told my wife that she should be in the video, maybe wearing a Nacho Libre mask to hide her identity. Her hits with the HI through the HiSi easily match some of the hits you see SM55 taking through glass with the Cloud in his videos.

Is there an OFFICIAL manual for the HI?

I got mine from mephisto a few days ago. It looks amazing. I've used an eterra before (first log vape), and I though this would be basically the same.

I put the herb into the ground glass stem w/screen. When I put the glass stem on top of the metal in the HI, all the herb went (got transfrerred) into the HI! Is that what it is supposed to do?

In addition, there was this rubber bowl with a glass stem. Does the rubber actually go on top of the metal in the HI? That seems pretty strange.

I feel like such a noob - and haven't read the past 46 pages. Please don't scold me for asking where to find a manual or usage instructions. The info on the site here:
http://toasty-top.com/maintain.html
doesn't say much about how to use it.

Any OFFICIAL help/links will be appreciated. Thank you kindly.

EDIT: vaporpedia is also seriously lacking on the HI
