@mixchu69 I did not notice any hot spots packing the stem tightly or loose, the herb seems to be very evenly heated by the extremely large coils. The Tubo still benefits from stirring though!

I also haven't needed to bump up the resistance like I initially thought I would. I discovered my issue was I was slowing my draw speed in an attempt to draw hotter air, but the Tubo is a powerhouse and does not seem to need this. To get the clouds I wanted I just had to hit faster and the Tubo will keep up with the demand.

To get the browning I want from my finished bowls I found I do have to adjust the temp up or start at a higher temp, but I think this is due to how accurate the Tubo is. If you have it set to 200 or whatever it's just simply not going to get your herb hotter than that; no matter how you draw it regulates itself to keep the output consistent. This makes it superb for flavour hits, sipping, and accurate temp stepping; you can really draw on it and the Tubo will keep the air at a consistent temp.

But that doesn't mean it can't produce large clouds or thoroughly brown your herb! I've been getting excellent extractions now that I understand more how the Tubo works! It's a very unique device.. the regulation and intelligence in the Evic combined with a well designed heater that can take advantage of those traits really make for an excellent vaping tool. And it's pretty too! I don't even want to use the whip so it will stay pristine forever.

For the hazardous part this applies to Li-Ion charging in general: never ever let a charger unattended, that's when house fires happen! And even with known brands (which are likely Chinese anyways) you never know when they can go wrong.
I never knew that. I leave my batteries in the charger until I'm ready to use them. Sounds like I need to stop doing that.

I pack the joint using the regular screen and then drop an elbo over the joint.
I should know what an elb is but could you clarify?

As for the V3- it worked great with the zion but it was a bit too restrictive with the tubo. I'm happy using the glass stem and whip that came with the tubo.

@little maggie

Elb is the little rimmed basket screens. They fit right in the opening of the joint rather than up in joint

edit: hot damn @Prolusio was right. I was afraid of throwing off the coil temp by ripping too hard but it keeps up. Getting nice clouds at 370 after the herb dries and the glass gets warmed up. Hoooo-weeeeeeeee

very happy that more tubos made it! the thread lives!

Hmm.. That's odd. I'm pretty sure there was a cable in my box. Might be wrong though!
yes normally you are right, i include a micro-usb charging cable. but as i am limited to 500grams weight for shipping its the first thing that flies out of the box followed by cutting grams away from the cardboard box :p

So in short: it's perfectly fine to charge directly in your Tubo. But you might want an external charger to minimize down time and keep using the Tubo while you charge by rotating cells.
yes!
I have settled into a pretty consistent usage pattern. I like to hold the button in until the temp overshoots my set temp and then I start drawing. I will say that hitting it like this puts a hurtin' on the batteries and I only get about one or two full bowls using it like this.
yes! i use it the same way. not sure about it being unhealthily hard on the battery, but in any case it should show signs of performance drop we can just replace it! :)

well, you can try to overwhelm the heater but in the end the overwhelmed one is you :D

happy testing!

Actually ELB is the ez load bowls from vapexhale for the cloud evo, that rimmed basket is the cap and there is a longer section that you fill so its like a mesh capsule. This is what I got a few of recently from another member here so I can try them in my Tubo.

The elbow bowls maybe have been called that because they come with the Arizer EQ and people elbow pack with them. You can get them other places too, like in the Tubo kit and from Ddave too.

Mine should be here any day now? Then I can join in on the fun

MY TUBO HAS ARRIVED!

I got home this afternoon, and found a package on my front porch. It had to wait until I'd scarfed down a can if soup, but it didn't take long till I'd tried it out.

I installed a fresh battery (Tubo said it was at 98%) and selected a bent stem (purely based on the appearance, as it looks great on the unit). I filled the stem about halfway with some fine-ground herb, tamped it slightly, then added a basket screen. Next I selected a comfortable chair, because I'm thinking it's about to become nap time. :myday: + :leaf: =

Wow, this thing is fast! With the temperature set at 370F, I started to draw as soon as I pressed the button, and I got a pretty decent hit on that first attempt. The next 3 hits were fabulous. I then paused for about 5 minutes before I went at it again. Just like the first round, I got a decent first hit, then it really went to town with the next 2-3 draws. It's quickly become obvious that there is some heat-soaking needed to get the Tubo hitting its hardest........but the first draws of each round were the biggest portable convection first-draws I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.

The flavor is good, though I won't try to compare it until I've used it more. After 7-8 hits, it's beginning to get toasted, but definitely no popcorn effect.

Air resistance is almost non-existent on the Tubo, which I really appreciate.....I have at least one vape sitting unused in a drawer, simply because it was too restricted.

I find the design of the Tubo to be very pleasing in both appearance and feel. The battery door is cool ; not only the evic part, but also @funkyjunky's design. The door stays on well, but is easily removed and replaced, and I like the interlaced look. I do notice notice that the door is not fitting perfectly at the bottom (as though the evic wasn't pushed all the way into the wood body) though I probably wouldn't have noticed if I wasn't looking it over so closely. Now that I'm aware of this, I'll look for a way to add some sort of spacer to the top of the door, to even things out. :sherlock:

The only thing that threw me off was the placement of the battery, as it is positive end down. I'm used to positive up on the Mistvape Touch, so I may get confused occasionally. :hmm: However, the evic has the ability to prevent reverse polarity problems. So, I might be stumped for a moment if I've already partaken, but otherwise it's no biggie.

That's all for now. Maybe more later. I'm as high as I want to be, and I'm struggling to write this.

Thanks for the clarification @Shit Snacks ! Yeah I just like the little top parts. Making a loose elb I guess by just packing the joint like half full and capping it with the basket lid (like @RelaxedNow said) is great. I love the bent stem and it seems to get rid of any irritation I'd normally get.

I'm pleasantly surprised and actually had to set it down after 2 hits off a fresh bowl at 370 before because it hit me so hard.

Thanks for the review @Prolusio. Your review and @stickstones experiences have sold me. Time to pm @funkyjunky

Anyone wanna school me on passthrough charging? Good/bad/shouldn't care?

Edit: I have nothing to say really that @stickstones and @Prolusio haven't already. I'm really enjoying it though. Honeymoon phase and all... And also anecdotes but I am quite happy with it and I haven't even begun really messing with it (gotta play that game!)

I haven't used the whip yet because the bent stem is cool enough for me, which is almost kinda surprising. My friend think it's the coolest looking device I have and he was also able to use it with no difficulty amazingly

Yeah, guys! Welcome to th party!!!:cheers:

Great user reports and reviews. The tubo definitely rocks and that bent stem is what I grab the most.. If you put some hemp filter in it, it adds a little restriction and keep the particulates away. Plus a nice gooey reclaim disc/ball after some juicy sessions. I'm having great fun using a sticky golden brown one from my GonG and stuffed it in the Milaana..... Oh boy... Thickest hits, boom. medicated.
Have fun playing with it.

Can't wait to see and hear more from you!

Wooooo! Definitely a party. Wonder how many of us there are now?!

Loving this thing man. I've been using water-filtration 90% of my hits with any of my other decvices the past 2-4weeks to save my throat, which is typically especially sensitive right when I wake up...

And this morning I woke up super early bc of chest congestion/coughing... but oddly enough I was able to pick up my tubo and finish my bowl (420f) from last night using the bent stem with no irritation.

Dang that is nice. Not having to setup my waterpiece AND not coughing for 5min even after I setup the water pipe.

Bent stem party

Here are some pics of my Tubo. The coloring came out wonderful.

I found my DDave v3 cooling wand works pretty good. :) I just stuck an extra tubo screen in there and can use it as I use the other stems for the tubo... which is like this:

vI6J3NR.jpg

Gonna try and not get as baked as I did yesterday so I can actually get some work done today.

Cheers

edit: ok the @DDave mod is actually pretty fantastic. I would recommend it to all tubo owners. I put one bowl through and there's already honey building up in the collector. The metal rim gets amazingly hot as well as the bottom portion of the glass... I guess this stem requires more heat-soaking than the other tubo stems but still works... :)

2 questions: Mine got hotter than any other vape I've used when I tried it last night. Is this normal?

Also I think there was a discussion in this thread about the rimmed caps. Has anyone found a place to buy them outside of a kit? I have a couple from Ddave and a couple came with the tubo but I'd like to buy several without needing to buy anything else.

@little maggie hot where?

My stem gets kinda hot towards the base. The mouthpiece and stuff gets warm but not hot and I never have any difficulties pulling the stem out due to that thick rim which doesn't get hot.

What temps are you using? My autocutoff is set at 25seconds and that will get me an absolutely massive hit if the stem is heatsoaked, even at 360f.

I haven't gone above 440f yet but my abv comes out exactly as I like it at that temp.

The body of mine hasn't gotten hot once. Just the mouthpiece at the bottom and the metal lid of the baskets... which I shouldn't touch so soon after taking a hit but meh.

You can buy the rimmed screens from arizer it looks like

https://arizer.com/store/extreme-q-parts-accessories/

Extreme Q Dome Screen Pack
US$6.99

I'll just say I am quite quite happy with this and it will easily fulfill my need for regulated on-demand convection until the zion and definitely past then, as the accuracy is not something I will want to go without. Really nailed this thing man. You have an uncornered market for those of us who care enough for temp control but don't wanna use conduction or weird plastic stuff.

It also rips through water. I love hitting it til like 400f dry, then dropping the herb into my gong and finishing it at 440f in the waterpipe.

I have mine set at 350. The wood gets very hot. Not so hot that I can't hold it but hotter than any of my wood vapes or logs. I started turning if off for quite a while so it could cool down. It may be that I'm holding the button for too long. I don't have it set to any cut off and I'm not sure how to do that. So another question is how long is it safe to hold the button for. With the milaana I only hold it for 15-20 seconds but thought that timing didn't matter with the zion or tubic.
I've been using it with the whip without water and I really like it. I haven't coughed once but I need to get back to using water. I think that even though it doesn't feel harsh it's not good for the vapor to be direct. (Just applies to me because I have COPD)

Hm. I'll put another bowl thru and see if the portion of the wood that houses the glass gets hot for me at all.

I usually just touch the wood that houses the evic and barely consciously touch the part with the glass enclosure

You should automatically have a cutoff time programmed in and not have to do anything for that. I read somewhere before that it was 20seconds but mine is definitely 25

edit:

:spliff::spliff::spliff: mine seems to be fine at 360 even after multiple pulls to the cutoff.

Let me try bumping it up

Yeah, even at 400~ mines fine. I burned thru this one really quick too. We should have the same wood type too, since we both got colors... hm

Try just holding the button and watching the display @little maggie and see if it jumps past your set temp by a large amount at all?

My underdogs and firewood4 (this one especially) get substantially hotter ime

I'm confused then. I thought that the temp would continue as long as the button was pressed. Or at least I think that's how mine works. I think. I will check this out later tonight but if I held the button down for much longer than it's supposed to be that would explain the heat. Maybe I need to somehow set a cut off if there's a way to do that. Given my track record with new products if there's going to be a problem it will be with mine.

yes the heater side can get quite warm/hot. dont worry you cant break it with its own heat.
i have tested several extreme and unreal scenarios where the heater side got really hot, nothing broke. i was always able to touch it, but then again i think i got used to touching hot parts.

also you can press the button as long as you wish, however it will say "long fire protection" once it has reached 25seconds. just repress the button immediately if need to.

regarding basket screens: the linked deal from arizer is actually a pretty decent one.
i can maybe offer the same deal being 4 pcs for $7 or 1 pc for $2, as before.
small stuff like this (under 2cm thickness) can be sent cheaper in an envelope instead of a package, economy: $2.80, priority $3.80 (up to 50grams).

I tried it with no bowl to see what would happen and for the first time saw the "long fire protection". One of the things that I've noticed is that the tubic is actually right handed. When I use it the display is upside down unless I switch to my right hand.

yes actually i thought about doing the mirrored version for lefties but stayed with one version since it felt comfortable using it with my left hand as well.

flipping the display is very easy: power off tubo by clicking the fire button 5 times in a row. hold plus and minus keys until display is switched. power on again with 5 clicks.

and regarding the protection time: yes it was originally at 20seconds, the new ones all have an increased 25 seconds timer. i will publish the firmware and a small guide to update the firmware soon so everyone can enjoy the longer time out.

It worked- thanks. Just to confirm though- it's ok to hold it longer than 25 sec. What would be the longest to hold it?

You really don't need to worry about that. @funkyjunky has tested the units with much higher temps. I too have done several back to backs w/o pause - repressing the button directly after the cut off several times... So heating more than a minute.
It won't break itself and should not be a problem at all.
Also, I don't find my tubo to be hot at all.. Not to the touch at least..I hold the tubo just on the base unit part, not the heater section. (Wouldn't do that anyways.. It's supposed to be warm/hot). Of course, my unit is a cooler one and has a 20 sec protection, but I don't think it would make such a huge difference.

Hope this helps!
