the v2 ceramic filter has little holes that you need to clean hole by hole by piercing a needle through it.

the v3 ceramic filter has removed this section with little holes and instead has a huge hole in the middle, covered by a mesh screen and a new stainless steel piece behind the mesh screen. This stainless steel piece has bigger bigger holes than the ceramic piece, which are less likely to get clogged.

The holes in the mesh screen in the v3 are also wider than the mesh screen used in the v2, so they are no going to get clogged as much and will also be easier to clean.

if like me, you clean the mesh screens with a torch-lighter and scrape of the ashes with a needle, then the difference in cleaning a v2 or v3 is minimal though.

the only reason i would recommend the v3 is improved airflow and cooler vapor, so it creates slightly more vapor, gives a more comfortable draw and is probably slighty easier on the throat.

i have PotV starry and it appears to have a cracked oven (see pic) ... has anyone else had this happen? it still works but i'm guessing the crack opens up the insides to the airpath? maybe not but it seems like it would ...

I had this happen to mine, I am sure it arrived broken too because the crack only appeared after it got a bit grunged up from use... then after a few months a second crack appeared about 3mm next to it, and the piece was wiggling around. At this point, vape no longer worked. I have contacted the seller but I don't know how the warranty process will go... weed isn't legal here

Happened to mine too. I guess this happens a lot without users noticing it. This could also be the reason for reports of much more off gassing of some users (i needed about 15 sessions at full temp until the bad smell/taste was gone).

bugger, I wonder is this common in vapes with ceramic chambers? I am reasonably new, this being my 3rd vape, am thinking about going full convection like a fire fly or something?

Quite concerning. I've had my starry a few months haven't had an issue with the cracked oven. Other vapes I've got with ceramic ovens are flowermate aura and davinci iq. These seem very similar to each other but have a round oven as opposed to oval which the starry has. Only issue for me is there's a brown mark I can't get rid of on the iq oven. Heard reports of similar so haven't been too concerned about that. Flowermate is clean as a whistle though.

I wouldn't use it with a crack, just doesn't sound right for me. Sorry to hear people are having issues.

I really like this vape as a budget no frills vape. Using it for home made keif hash at the mo and really enjoying it. Before reading these posts I wouldn't have thought twice about buying another if my original went down but now I'm not 100% sure.

I know it's only 2 out of which will be thousands of units sold. Just a niggle in the back of the mind.

here's the response i got from potv about the cracked oven (keep in mind i bought the one in question used so i didn't expect it to be covered) but found it interesting that they don't normally cover cracked ovens anyway.

*********************** FROM POTV **************************************************
Thanks for the pic. That looks awful. Please don't try to use it again in that condition.

In regards to warranty, we can only offer warranty service on those vapes that are purchased through us. Cracks like that though are not typically covered under warranty as they typically occur either from a drop or some other type of impact but we have made exceptions on this in the past.

Really sorry about this. Wish that there was something that we can do here but our hands are tied on this one.

They say they have made exceptions in the past. I feel if this develops early then there could be support.

I know @warren0728 purchased a used unit. I would definitely recommend contacting the company you purchase from if you buy new and this problem occurs.

I don't feel like it's as serious of an issue my last post made it seem after reading back. Still a concern/weak point?

Still this is minimal cases (2?3?) I know not everyone who bought the starry is on here, some people would just throw it away. Some people may still use it and think nothing at all about the crack or even notice it.

*Just me speculating from previous experience/trends/people's way of thinking. I work near a car modification garage. Quite popular. They charge thousands to take a certain make of car apart and cable tie custom mods/body kits in place. People know this but it also sort of has a status with the name and they still get customers from all over the country..... if you build it they will come.

i wasn't expecting them to warranty a unit i bought used ... mainly wanted to know if it was safe to use and i decided it wasn't and tossed the body (kept the mouthpiece) ...

i also have a potv starry that i bought new from planet of the vapes and so far i haven't had any issues with it ... it works just fine!

I had this same problem with my CF\x. To fix my CF\x I set the vape to max temperature, waited for heat up, inverted the vape then use wet cotton bud\Q-tips, usually 8 of them taped together to make 1 big bud that you have to force into the oven and scrubbed like a chimney sweep. The steam and heat got it looking like new. The steam can shoot out the air intake so be careful not to get burnt. The CF/x does not seem to mind this harsh cleaning, I just did it again and it looks great again.

Edit; The CF\x has a slightly isolated airpath, this type of cleaning might not be best for something built like a mighty where the air intake seems to be everywhere. I would stick to the same method as above but use precision Q-tips so you can apply more pressure to the walls of the oven as you work and the steam could escape more easily.:myday:

Mine got cracked at exact the outer line you can see on the piu teardown oven pic:

starry-portable-vaporizer-ceramic-chamber-teardown.jpg

I could see this line from inside the oven. Can everybody with a starry have a look inside the oven? Can anybody see this line in his/her starry oven? When i am right and you can see it, its cracked. Or am i wrong about that?

Yep thats exactly where the first crack/line appeared in mine. Then the next one appeared a few mm away and that little piece fell out... from the look of that photo it almost seems to be a manufacturing fault...

I have V2 btw

Yesterday i got my Starry v3 delivered. Luckily the oven is in perfect condition, but sadly, it smells as much as my v2. I used 3 full batteries at max temp for burn offs (i let it cool down between sessions). I washed the oven with iso, also the mouthpiece (the mouthpiece 3 times, with iso and dishwashing soap), and there is still a noticeable smell/taste, probably from the silicone.

I've decided to use it anyways, and the nasty smell gets masked fast by the herbs. But: I am still a smoker, so i am not very taste sensitive. If you are, you probably need more than 3 batteries for burn offs.

I put degummed hemp fiber inside the new mouthpiece filter, this makes the vapor very very smooth, even at higher temps. This also makes the draw resistance higher, so it is more like sucking on a cigarette. And it keeps the mouthpiece much cleaner. The hemp fiber is gathering all the good stuff i usually wash away from the mouthpiece. You can vape the hemp fiber (and the gathered good stuff) afterwards, so nothing gets wasted. Hemp fiber should be heat resistant up to 240 °C.

Comparing the v3 with the v2, the new mouthpiece does not sit as perfect on the body as the v2 mouthpiece, but the new filter works way better (you can use the old filter without the ceramic part and use a screen instead to imitate the new filter). I don't notice any differences in the vapor, airflow or heat development. But the battery lid fits better than the v2.

There are 2 short silicone tubes in the v3 package, are they for use on the mouthpiece with other people for hygienic reasons? The manual does not mention the tubes...

^^ @Nilsson

Increased draw resistance doesn't seem like a good thing for vaping since you need long soft draws in order to pull out the most vapor.
So I wouldn't recommend using organic hemp fiber.
I understand why you'd want to do it though, because...

The V2 mouthpiece mesh screen in the filter is way better than the mouthpiece's mesh screen in the V3.
Too much plant matter goes through the bigger holes in the V3 screen, and the plant matter might even move through the straw inside the mouth and in the worst case scenario get inhaled.

It's better to use a V2 mouthpiece mesh screen in the filter, and if you don't have one just cut a big-bottom-mesh-screen at the correct smaller size with scissors. It's easily done and just as good as an original one for the V2.

edit: i have to further test the method with the hemp fiber, my previous testing / comparison between with and without hemp fiber was stupidly faulty, made by myself. @in_human_form is probably right.

Edit2: it seema that i have to put way more effort in trying out different draw technics. Thank you for the hint @in_human_form

My starry V2 (only 4 months in use) just broke as it somehow fell out of my jacket while walking.

It must have hit the downside of the unit,
as I had to pull out the electrical contact next to the battery comparment a bit to get it working again.
The battery is acting a little weird but nothing too worrying.

The thing that really worries me, is that even though there is no visible damage to the oven I think i can taste/feel (in throat) something chemical coming out of my Starry since the drop.

One of the ways I could see this happening is the rubber sealing on top of the oven isn't sealing properly anymore.
I can't see any obvious damage to it, but it doesn't look too professional... not sure if it's always looked that way.
Anyway, since the fall...

I don't trust this device anymore and would not recommend it anymore to anyone.
Goodbye Starry V2

Howdy folks, I took a couple years off from vaping weed and accordingly from this thread. I'm back now vaping once again on my Starry V1. I see the Starry V2 and V3 are on sale at the major retailers. My V1 still works fine--it's like new, in fact. Still.......the new versions are on sale. Need I say more?
Are the upgrades in these versions significant enough to make it worth buying a new Starry? I know that is an extremely subjective question but I'm teetering on the fence here. Appreciate it if somebody would give me a push one way or the other.
