If its the silver case they used to ship them with, its pretty flimsy. I bought a Seahorse case for like $60 that has housed my Volcano for probably 6 years.

I actually just got my Volcano back. Its been loaned out and used like 4 times in the last 4 years. I think Im gonna toss it up for sale.

I have my original aluminum case that came with my volcano in 09. It still looks good, the keys still lock it and so on. Not sure any upgrade is needed, at least for me.

Thats awesome! Maybe you got a different case? The one I got just had aluminum inserts stuck in front of some pressboard.

Almost there...
I am having a love/hate relationship with my Volcano of late...
Recently i came into a used Extreme-Q 4.0 that can blow bags at variable fan speeds.
The volcano only has one speed, which i would love to be able to slow down!

Does anyone know if this can be done?
Or even if it is a good idea to try? I was thinking of placing a potentiometer in to adjust speed by decreasing/increasing power to the pump.

I did some tests and at the same temps i almost never cough with a bag from the EQ done at a lower fan setting.
Same temp on Volcano has me coughing a lot and it hurts, even through water it is harsh lately.
I was hoping a softer extraction would help and maybe also minimize particles in the bag.

And ideas?

Went from a crafty to a mighty. Just pulled the trigger on the classic with easy valve. VAS.....
*high five* welcome bro!

I was mixing it up with my crafty and lsv. in my testing , I turned the dial to 4:00 on the lsv and combusted badly! the whole bubbler went very thick white, I saw a huge cherry, got THE most disgusting inhale....barf just thinking about it.
now my whole water filtration rig smells disgusting from 10 feet away. barf
so I put all that crap away and loaded my trusty volcano classic with the oil pad. God, I love this thing.

Try your volcano at lower temps. You can also run the fan through the herb chamber, and put the bag on when you see vapor. Another thing to try is put your oil pad on top of the load.

You really can't compare temperatures between the extreme and the volcano. The design is vastly different. Extremes run quite a bit hotter. I run my cano classic from 4.5-5.5 depending on the herb.

I have several friends with extremes and believe me, they would trade with me anyday, lol.

Thanks @kolila. S&B products are amazing! That sucks on the combusting. I dont enjoy the combusting taste at all anymore. I did a pinch in my mflb and combusted lol. Time to iso clean!!

Im going to start at page 1 of this thread. Looking for best practices with cleaning the unit/ez valve setup. Info on bags and re placing or reusing. I know temps are personal preference but Ill be looking for any repeated temp practices and how some dial in on sessions. Although Im very use to dry hits Ill see how much trouble setting up some h2o will be. Thats all I can think of for now but here I go. Page 1.

Are you using the fine screens? This always helps keep particulates down in the bags. Also what temps do you have the cano set to?

I don't think trying to slow down the pump would make much of a difference in bag harshness. I've not heard of anyone trying this before.

Using the screens that came with the Easy valve set.
I will see if there are finer ones in the maintenance kit.

I have tried lower temps but the vapor is not very strong, hencey wish to slow the full rate down.

As for temps it is usually around 5 to 6.

I also place the oil pad on top, not sure if that makes a difference at all?

It might also just need a good cleaning as it was a second hand unit. I also noticed a drop of oil on the screen on the main unit, so a look inside may also be a good idea!

I'd call or email S&B for advice. If its under warrantee I'd let them deal with it. If its not, I'd take a look myself. Let us know how it goes. Best of luck.

Ive been thinking about dust accumulation more in the volcano. I want to keep the bags clean, and make sure I'm not inhaling any extra crap.

I've asked this before, but wanted more advice:

Do you think turning the fan on for a few seconds is enough to remove any dust that has settled in/on the volcano? Or is covering the volcano something most users do?

Recently I am now storing it in a cabinet, because covering it requires me to wait for it to cool down...

You asked the question a page back, and got a dozen good answers.. I even have shared some of the ideas.
Covering does not require cooling down.
I use a simple plastic paint can cap, and have put it on the unit immediately after shutdown for 3 years.
I vape at 395º.
Every other local user I know does the same, and a few vape much higher.
My cap has been in use for 3 years, and looks new inside.

Dust shouldn't be a concern, you're already breathing the same dust anyways. The air is filled with millions of dust particles. So unless you're filtering the air that's going into your volcano it'll have dust in it.

I would keep the herb chamber closed when not in use to avoid anything settling in it, (odds are most of the dust is your dead skin). Besides that it's unavoidable and isn't something to worry about.

I've never seen dust as a problem. I've never had a cover for it and have used it since 09. For longer term storage, I just put it in the box it came in, but mostly it sets out. If its been a while since I've used it, I let the fan run a few seconds before using with the herb chamber, but really, dust has not been problem.

I've never had a dust problem either but I have no pets and I sweep the floors often.

Lately Ive been experimenting with vaping at max temp on the volcano and attaching the bag to water filtration. I was pleasantly surprised in my toying around with adapters to find that the plastic part of the cyclone adapter fits exceptionally well with my volcano easy valve bag. Something about that plastic lip on the cyclone makes for a more sturdy fit. In case anyone has one laying around lol

carry on!

In my humble experience the best way to use the volcano at max temp with water is to use a fine herb layer, just enough to cover the screen, and fill a single big bag (solid valve here). I also don't wait more than 2 secs when attaching the globe when using this method as vapor starts coming out sooner.

This way you get far better taste on each bag without wasting too much, since high temps give toasty flavor almost from the start.

Cheers

I use the solid valve, which did not come with the fine screens, I ordered those from S&B, and they are a much finer mesh and keep things a bit cleaner overall. They are pricey, but I have not seen screens with finer mesh.

6 is usually a starting temp for me, and I end up at 7.5. Lower temps can be harsher I find, as can certain strains.
