I have both but I don’

I have both solid Valve, Easy valve, easy valve with reducer. And Liquid pads. I always use normal Easy valve with no pad or reducer and I don’t find the Solid Valve to be so much better or efficient. It may be, but it gets dirtier, has screws and a couple more screens to keep tidy, and has to be hold in place while inflating a bag.
The reducer is probably useless if you micro dose. It can hold 300mg (250mg using a capsule) or else, better defining micro dosing first ;)
I just set it to 230C, sprinkle a pinch of grounded weed and collect the wispy vapor inside a bag.

I have a volcano classic.
I use the easy valve.
I use the full size chamber.
I use the liquid pad.
I use a Bag which is about 1/2 the volume of a "normal" S&B bag.
On average I put in 50mg flower. (Here in CA I look for flower which is 20% or more THC as tested)
I use a measured "pinch" spoon and fill it between 2/3 and 3/4 the way full depending of the strength of the flower.
My temp is set to 7 1/2 on the dial.
I spread out the flower very thin so that I can see through it and the fine screen.
I prefer a very fine grind.
I get complete extraction within that small bag.
I only get one bag per 50mg flower. A second blow does not yield good results.
If the flower is 20% THC each bag has about 8-10mg thc in vapor.
This does not produce smoke like milky bags.
It does produce nice semi dense vapor with HUGE flavor
It does produce very smooth bags.

I have a theory that
Too much flower is harsh.
Too much heat is harsh.
Using Less flower and a smaller bag is better because when you fill a Normal bag and you have a lot of flower in the chamber you do not get complete extraction and the regular size bag seems to get more HOT AIR pumped into it. It also doesn't taste anywhere near as good. Just my perspective.

Using small amounts of flower (under 80mg), finley ground flower spread thin covered with a liquid pad heated at 71/2 (your Volcano temp may be different than mine so try different temps to get the best results).

So YEARS of using the Volcano has helped me to figure out how to do it most efficiently while maximizing flavor and just plain making a little go a long way.

It would be 8-10mg giving for good that 7,5 on V classic dial is 100% extraction but at 400°+F it should be pretty close to that.
I do the same thing with no liquid pad and using an XL bag, inflating it halfway, just a little bit more of a normal bag, using max temp to maximize extraction. With my method flavor is not anything to call home about, I'll try your style.
My point in using bigger bags is that it's not easy to tell when extraction ends and you are only inflating hot air into the bag, and I made full extraction my priority over flavor.

I totally get it. Sounds like we are on much the same volcano path. For me I am not sure that getting that last couple mg by using the top heat is worth the tradeoff.

I have found that MY LUNGS become very unhappy when I use higher temps.

How much flower do you use for one of your loose bags?
For me the volcano is the only way to vaporize at home. so pure.

For anyone that has the Lift Grinder, you can use the tool/ashtray they give you with the grinder to put on top of your Volcano to keep dust out. It fits perfectly! :peace:
I've found this alcohol stove base fits the top of the volcano perfectly -- it's made of sturdy (but light) aluminum and has holes where the heat can escape, but the dust will not settle in the top of the volcano where it can be blown/inhaled into the bag. You can actually have this "cover" on the volcano even when it is fully heated up, and it won't trap the heat.

It rests on top so that it extends above the volcano about 1" and the holes in the side sit just above the top of the volcano. The little tabs inside the base rest on the downslope of the volcano, which keeps the "cover" from accidentally being knocked off and help to center it.

Here is a link if anyone is interested ($10 USD on Amazon) :

Did anyone see the new limited version of the gold Volcano? Holy shit it is snazzy.
Some features are:
Gold plated heat exchanger top parts (not sure about inner airways), and plated filling chamber parts too.
Only 100 produced.
Engraved signatures on rear and lettering all over.
All black switches.
Comes with fancy shirt and other bits.
It is for a serious collector at €999! If a few hundred cheaper it might have me dreaming about one.
Real nice anniversary type vaporizer though!

While using my Hybrid today I was imagining all the gold Volcanos in action worldwide, Christmas surely being a great time to pull out the shiny extravagant vape!
If I score something nice soon I might pull out my Digit before I sell it just to celebrate the 20 year thing. I still love bags on the Hybrid!

Nice ideas thanks!
I used to cover mine with a t-shirt but the vape has to be cooled down and plugged out so I hardly do it anymore.

I wonder if they will ever come out with a newly designed vape ever again. I think we will see different iterations or improvements instead for years to come.

At 20 years strong the "if it aint broke don't fix it" motto probably rings true, that said I was hoping the hybrid would have been shrunk down to 2/3 the size. A volcano with less of the desktop footprint would be sweet.

That's what I thought too, maybe like the game consoles did!
I also thought a USB socket would be nice for charging your portable:lol:

In the recent video where they confirm working on a Mighty+, in the same sentence he also mentions them working on other new projects currently, so we can look forward! And yeah hopefully it's not just a fancy Plenty!
Also, when I was googling trademark info for the Mighty+ a while back, i found two names which they trademarked for use, most likely for vaporizers from what I saw, but they appeared to abandoned these or they expired.
The two names or products were "Addair" and "Flower Power".
The latter is a great name for a herb vape really. I would love to have seen drawings or know more!
Hopefully!

A screencap showing the trademarked names under "Stobi GMBH" in a google image search:

I was watching a recent stream from a guy called Swami, a California grower I think, and his partner Nikki mentioned how she gave up smoking after a COPD diagnosis. And since she and Swami are judges for the Emerald Cup, she now uses a Volcano to judge the event each year.
Just thought that was another cool thing this vape is doing!
At 12:35 in the video they explain a little.
I believe this is the first year where they acknowledge and have a class for "indoor", as outdoor is such a big thing there.

Super bummed out, I've had my volcano less than 6 weeks. Purchased in December and while unplugging it today the housing around the power plug cracked. Storz and Bickel is closed hopefully they get back to my inquiry soon.

Hey guys so I bought a Volcano classic more than a decade ago but I never got more than a couple months use from it because it is so inefficient.

I was recently reading through Vape Critics Volcano review and he says it's one of the most efficient vaporizers along with the Plenty. Am I doing something wrong here?

I was using a vapor brothers and original SSV for better efficiency since then.

I have no idea why he would call the Volcano an efficient vape?

If you got it used or didn’t store it properly, the internal fan could be engulfed with environmental dust (unlikely but possible?) or from pollen/abv and may be malfunctioning, but you seem to experience this misbehaving from the beginning. When I get new vapes, and I’m doubtful about their efficiency, the Volcano is the vape I use to revape abv and check their efficiency. If yours has leaks or you use sub-par material it may not perform as intended. Imho it’s still the gold standard, at least when it comes to efficiency of extraction and replicability of the experience.
Other than checking the fan, you may miss an o-ring or any other small part of the valve and consequently it malfunctions. Check the instructions booklet or some instructional video to see if you have all the parts.

Hey does anyone know the best guide on how to use the Volcano efficiently?

Should I just listen to what Vape Critic says?
Vape Critic's views on the Volcano are fine and will give you a good experience with the Easy Valve.

I must recommend the Solid Valve for efficiency though. No need to use the liquid pad to fill in extra space like in the Easy Valve bowl. The Solid Valve has a built in bowl size adjuster. Solid Valve is what my Volcano came with 14 years ago, nowadays it must be purchased separately. Easy Valve was one of the early "upgrades" that i felt was more about cost saving/profitability for them. Easy Valve still to this day issues with breaking too. Im sure some medical patients would disagree but for recreational needs Solid Valve is underrated for efficiency, durability and ease of use IMO.

Just my two cents here.......

The volcano does best with at least .5 in the chamber. if you want to use less, you can but you won’t have as thick of vapour as a full chamber. Full packs are smoother and taste better, anything less than .5 will be harsh and will not create as smooth and flavourful of an experience.

The volcano benefits from heat soaking the bowl. Whenever you are ready for a bag, leave the chamber on the heater for ten seconds to a minute.

Before filling a bag, run the air for five seconds without the bag, or until you start seeing vapour. Then place the bag alright the chamber. This avoids hot vapour-less air from being in the bag and ensures only vapour is in your bag.

Since the volcano is mainly convection (there is conduction with metal inside the bowl), when your flower creates less vapour, you can stir the bowl or re-grind it for a dank last bag.

I am using the solid valve, what temperatures do you recommend I start with and what amount do you recommend packing in a bowl at a time?

I think a quarter gram is about the minimum i would recommend. Make sure to grind fairly fine for best efficiency. I have a Classic so i start at 6 for the first few bags. Then at times i will regrind the herb ive been vaping on and turn it to powder. Youll need a 2 piece grinder, like the orange grinder the volcano comes with. I will then turn the volcano up to 7 or higher and vape it again. Youll get every last drop.

How big should I make the bags for max efficiency?

I use as little as a pinch of weed (30mg) to large amounts as 150mg. There is no need to put more imho. Since you have the solid valve you can adjust the spring on top of your load and be fine with tiny or large amounts. I like to extract everything in just one bag as heating up the load multiple times imho does not enhance efficiency and most of all flavor. Everything Vape_Or_Die420 stated is his way of using the Volcano, everything I’m saying is how I use mine, but there’s no trick to power up Volcano’s efficiency which is already paramount if it’s not malfunctioning or its fan engulfed with abv particles after years of use.

How big should I make the bags for max efficiency?
Again, there’s no correct/incorrect use imho. Just take away the bag from the valve and look with your eyes if there’s vapor coming out from it. On paper bigger bag means longer extraction but it all comes to how big is the load you are extracting.
Many Volcano users say they like to put a liquid pad inside the Easy valve to stop weed from swirling around. With the solid valve you can adjust it precisely on top of you load. If you are experiencing so much trouble you should check if the valve has every little tiny bit in place, or not.
