VAS: Vape Aquisition Syndrome The malady we love to hate

I have used Vapmans pretty much exclusively for almost 2 months now, after laying fallow for a good 18 months. To get honest, I've sort of lost interest in the 6 or 7 others manuals that made up my rotation, including the long anticipated Tempest. Strange.
I took mine with the station on vacation. Vapman covered almost all my usage indoors, the Lotus covered most of the rest. I came to realize during those weeks that I do not need to rely on my heavier hitters every day. I really enjoy having a minute out of the day for these slower vapes and the Vapman ritual, by station or torch, is the best.

The vapman really is such a beautiful vape. It's so fun to use, no other ritual get me into such a zone. Really helps me take my mind off things. It'd be pretty ironic if I beat VAS just to become a vapman collector haha

What is it about the Vapman that you most enjoy? Do you use butane or one of their heaters?

They intrigue me.

I enjoy using very small amounts of cannabis, and it's a very efficient little device. The manual aspect allows me to vary the speed and strength of the extraction (a bowl can last a minute, if I'm in a hurry - but can also stretch to fifteen if I've got time in my hands), and I enjoy the languorous approach it encourages, as well as the quality of the high it produces. I also like to kid myself that they have a lower carbon footprint than almost every other extraction device I can think of. Many people rate the predictability of the tower, but I think back to the days I worked in a cheese shop. After a few months working there I found I could easily cut a particular weight of cheese by sight and feel. I find manual vapes operate in a similar way (for me at least). Oh, and they're super discreet. When you try one, keep at it. They really repay the attention you give them. And I didn't even mention the taste, or their suitability for traditional hash. Best of luck, and hope things get a little easier for you

I'm coming round to this view.
I only switch on the desk tops at the weekend (Fri night) and I often find I'm switching them off last thing before bed having not touched them.
I'm really finding the hits from my favourite portables (vapman, vaponic, proxy) does the job.
I'm finding I'm using less herb, lungs are not stressed as much and I seem to get higher.
Maybe a lung busting hit isn't the most efficient method for me.
I can see myself passing on my desktops and perhaps keeping only my vapbong as my sole plug in.
Strange coming round full circle.

One of the rules I’ve tried to actualize over the years is that vaping should retain focus on harm reduction. For me that means an emphasis on smoothness.

Even with a powerful heavy hitter I don’t personally recommend or chase big fat lung busters anymore. I noticed years ago that hardcore vape enthusiasts often still carried a “smokers wheeze” and that’s something I think we really should try and distance ourselves from.

That’s one of the main reasons I created the 14MM Z8/ZX after 3.5 years of using my larger 18MM ball vape designs.

IMHO I find time and time again in my personal experiments that the number one irritant is simply using too much material.

Vaporizing with great herb and a great device is so efficient, it’s rather humorous how small of a bowl I truly need.

In my decades of combustion I was never a "cough to get off" guy, I get a better high and a much more enjoyable imbibing experience if I take several small hits that don't give me coughing fits that scare women & children. I guess that's why I've settled into the dynaverse, I'd prefer to do 6 dyna half bowls in a sesh than 1-2 ballvape coughing fits blowing 3/4 of the vapor I sucked up back out into the air!

I seem to have given the impression that my hits results in a coughing fit. Not sure why I would scare children or women either ....
If that was the case I would stop. I very rarely cough when I vape. One of the reasons I transitioned from smoking to vaping. I certainly don't wheeze.

I also prefer a single small bowl. I use the qaroma which I find very very smooth. Using about .1g in a bowl, I finish in one hit. If I have to hit twice I reduce the amount of herb in the bowl.

My point was agreeing with @coolbreeze that my desktops have taken a slight back seat to my smaller devices. I'm finding I prefer to finish the .1g over several hits now with portables. The taste is still good over multiple hits.
Perhaps I shouldn't have used the term lung busting as this seems to have triggered a few comments.

Thank you for taking the time for this write up.

Reading this I feel like we are kindred spirits and I think I'd love using a Vapman for the reasons you describe.

Things will improve for me, I'm sure. The next month will be rough as I finish packing up my life and moving out of what I thought would be our family home forever. Instead, the bulldozers will soon raise this place and a huge mansion will replace our charming pre-war (WWII) ranch house and the park-like gardens I created over decades will also be gone. Pretty gutted. Not at all the way I thought my life would end up.

But life moves on. I will dust myself off and seek happiness and human connections. I just need to keep moving forward.

One last question, for the Vapman experience, do you rely on their specialized heater or a torch? Is the former key to a great Vapman experoence or not so much?

I rate the vapman lighter. I've others with nice tight flames (aiomai and honest flint lights) , and plenty of bushier options too (Jobon Bullet, Vertigo Serpent) but the Vapman flame is better for longer sessions, ime. The bushier the flame, the faster the bowl heats and fast is not always my preference.

Really sorry to hear this Bill. These are distressing times we live in, but you're commitment to happiness and human connections is spot on. It's all we have at the end of the day. Wishing the best for you.

PS I think you'll love the Vapman, I completely echo Perfect_Speed's sentiments

I really appreciate your kind words.

This has been a truly epic day in terms of vap acquisition.

I picked up a Tinymight 2 Purple Heart up at post office within the hour and it is now charging. Oh boy is the anticipation mounting!

Today I also placed a pre-order for Phase3 ZX 14mm desktop.

And I'm Vapman shopping. Oy!

And some do-dads.

Short supply on the Vapman. Direct seems possible. The day could become even more epic.

But as they say, "When the times get tough, the tough get toking."

Epic, Bill. Fun times ahead!

Fun times have started my friend.

I'm into my second sesh with the newly arrived TM2 PH.

Let's say I'm highly enthusiastic about this vape. Its reputation on this forum is well-deserved.

I rate it: Fucking Awesome!!!

I've always enjoyed herb when I'm happy. And I've had a happy life.

But in the moment, hurting and looking forward to better days, having a non-combustible device that delivers what I need for the pain is a godsend. Truly. Epic

I've also added batteries and a charger to my spending spree.

I haven't had the pleasure yet of trying the TM2 but your enthusiasm speaks volumes. One of these days...

Enjoy!

Oh, let me tell you, the TM2 is a very fine product. We can call it "transportational."

Not inexpensive, to be sure. But...

I have two of the original TMs and I certainly get what you are experiencing. They are remarkably powerful and easy to use. Very little learning curve and quite satisfying to use, even as a beginner. I got my first one in 2020 and it, as well as it's V1.5 sister, remain in my daily rotation. Along with my Tempest and a SplinterZ.

I pay a little extra attention to your posts as you and I each had the same (epic-level) bong in our youths. I just got a new one.

The Legend Returns!

Now I need to look up SplinterZ. LOL

Fortunately, I don't have VAS and what might look like a hemorrhaging of money is all strategic spending. LOL

FYI most of the items in my Spoiler are hyperlinks, but here is a pic of one of my SplinterZs on a DNA Mod.
VT75-D-w-canary.jpg

Unfortunately, I don't think they're made anymore and could only be purchased in the classifieds if somebody is selling theirs.

That's a cool looking device.

Tomorrow is another day.

Meanwhile this epic day of Vape Acquisition was capped by a order of an olivewood Vapman 2.0 with a steel mouthpiece and and extra in olive.

I packed years of spending into a day. An investment in my happiness.

So I’ve had some interesting changes to my vape lineup these last few weeks.. call it VAS, I prefer the phrase “exploratory purchasing” ;)

I’ve been a big fan of the Solo 3 for a minute now, I love the heavy extraction and signature when running it over 200. The throat hit natively at my desired roast level had finally got too much for me though, on top of the (to me) finicky nature of the stems and how they must be loaded for maintaining airflow. So with a heavy heart I sold it. I could’ve used a WPA and solved all my issues but I’m almost 100% a native user. I think if I revisit the hybrid electric vape area it’ll be with a FW9, it seems like it has similar hybrid heating to the S3 but with more power, a proper bowl (my preference to stem bowls as it’s less fussy in some ways) and longer vapour path with better cooling features like a bend and dimples.

I then got a vapman to replace the one I had a couple years ago. This is probably sacrilege on this forum to say, but I just didn’t enjoy it like I remembered. I think I forgot why I was never in a rush to replace it in the first place, and the rose tinted glasses had slowly formed on my memory of it. It’s now with a friend who appreciates what it offers a lot more than me. Maybe I’ll revisit it with time but for now I think me and the vapman aren’t meant for each other.

Finally I ordered the Fusion 2.0 long woody and I’m satisfied again. Some key differences to my last time with the fusion are that I’ve left the airflow fully open, domed the screen to lift it off the bottom of the chamber, and I’m heating it as slowly as I can. I use a DV sized eagle torch equivalent and go 15 seconds past the click. I get huge dense clouds that keep going as long as I can inhale for, perfectly even extraction and a strong high with a hybrid signature that lasts a few hours. I was enjoying some mixed herb and hash bowls last night and the fusion just shredded through it in no time - and left me similarly shredded! It’s a surprisingly competent vape with pure hash bowls too, something I didn’t explore too much with previous Dani’s. Flavour is excellent, and if you’re like me and try to go as close to the line as possible it is very forgiving. I’m getting my preferred dark coffee AVB every time. After coming from the S3 it was very noticeable how smooth and well conditioned the vapour is from the fusion, these big dense clouds cause no irritation whatsoever and I only tend to cough from the sheer terp overload. I’ve also got a triple flame for when I want a faster heat up or a less intense high for daily use. It works great too, but the slow roast is definitely my preference for the heavy hybrid effects. It’s honestly crazy you can get this sort of quality for £120. The long wooden stem I’ve gone with this time is absolutely beautiful as well, and stays very cool.

Where do I go from here? Well, I miss the convenience of electric so a FW9 may be on the cards. Either that or a flare IH for my fusion when it’s out again with the improvements. Who knows where my vape journey will take me but I try to never look back with regret on my purchases, only knowledge and experience gained :)
