Cool, lots of us 'cut our teeth' on them, many still like to spend time with this old friend long afterward. I suggest you give some thoughts to getting a proper lighter for the occasion? Bics don't really cut it you know....

Thanks, OF! Im excited for this vape. Definitely. And I also purchased a proper lighter along with my coil (since I threw out my Bics when I said 'fuck combustion' almost 4 months ago).

hello

I finally decided to clean my VG and as rubbing iso with swabs the screen popped out. no problem I thought, as for cleaning was quite easier. The point is now the screen just keeps popping out quite easy, for example if I just turn the vapor genie upside down to empty it there goes the screen...

Is it supposed to be like this? I am probably not taking the VG out anymore as I'm kind of afraid of losing the screen, and not taking out whats supposed to be a portable vape is sad

Has anyone had this problem with a classic wood VG and have any idea or suggestions?

I have to respectfully disagree about the bics. I have found it easier to use a bic (yeah, I know I'm inhaling butane remnants and I don't care) than a torch. I think it's personal preference really, but I my bic/vg routine down pat and see no reason to stop enjoying it. I enjoyed it a little too much last night, actually. I just picked up a spare bic in fact to have as a backup.

To each his own... Enjoy!

I'm assuming here you mean the screen wich is the same as in a combustion pipe, but halfway typing my post I realize you could also mean the ceramic flamefilter.
I always take the screen out when cleaning. also I sometimes change the position of the screen. usually after a while the screen degrades at the edges, and therefor a looser fit. if it gets too loose, it's time for a new screen. little weird tough it would already be too loose after one time. what sometimes works too is bending the screen a little bit in a domeshape(if it isn't already), and put it in the VG convex side up(so the middle of the screen is highest), then push it down and once it's down you can flatten out the screen a bit by pushing on it, i my experience screens stay in better this way. a new screen I just push in flat, but used and cleaned screens I often push in the way described above
I have the handcarved model btw, bowl is a bit bigger as the classic

and ofcourse you can also just empty it in your hand, if the screen comes out it isn't lost. and you could also always carrry a few sparescreens

No problem, Stu, everyone get's their own opinion on such stuff. Bics work fine, fire comes out when you want it and not when you don't.

However, even if you get past the metalic poison issues, there's the remaining issues that new guys can foul the unit with soot with them and for some models (like coils and bats) 'candle flame' lighters are very hard for many to use.

I think guys trying to learn the VG have enough to worry about, a torch type lighter of appropriate size makes it easier.

With the VG there is a certain "sweet spot" that each lighter has. I find the bic's sweetspot to be (while held horizontally) close enough for the candle flame to be sucked into the unit, but not too close or the flame goes out. There is not even "high" or "low" settings on bics anymore, so only one flame size to worry about.

With torches you have to determine the proper angle, flame size, distance from bowl to hold it, color of flame (do I use the yellow flame, or go all the way down to the blue?) etc.

I also don't "flick my bic" while it's near the VG intake, so no issues with flint.

I like things that are simple. And the VG with a bic is about as simple as you can get.

I understand that most people prefer torch lighters with the VG Coil, I just don't really understand why.

Then again, I don't understand much these days..... so no big suprise there.

So I have had the VG glass bat for about a week or so. This vape will deliver the goods!!!
As it has been mentioned, it takes getting used to blasting a lighter towards yer grill....
The clouds are enormous!!! I have owned all of the other VGs and this one is the best by
far for me. The bat has a moveable stainless door that slides open for loading... then it
slides closed for use. Just under 5.5 inches long, clean tasting, etc. like all the rest of the
VG family. It just fits into the storage sleeve for TV batteries. Nice shatterproof case.
It does not stay hot for too long after use, and it seems to kick my ass in just a couple
pulls. Faster than the Supreme, hefty in the hand, feels more durable than the gn0me.
I am quite impressed with this latest edition. Buy one! it is worth the price....

If you contemplating glass, IMO there are better alternatives elsewhere.

The most inconspicuous is the handcarved models, and IMO the better looking of the lot.

The coil is the most durable and the easiest to clean (just boil it), and the flavour is one of the best, compared only to glass.

had a few of the standard, 2 of the teak carved, a glass bat and now using the VG glass Sherlock. imho the Sherlock is the best. fragile to a degree (its glass) but the best VG when more than one person is toking. if toking alone i use a lotus vape. really works well with one or two hitters. the measuring scoop is supplied with the pipe. the VG glass bat has a learning curve but what utensil doesn't? the lotus vape can save a lot of weed because of the size of the bowl, someone with a high T would have to smoke more that one or two bowls and this could become a pain in the sphincter. someone with a high T would probably like the VG Sherlock better. idk, my T is at one or two hits.

The glass sherlock bowl is pretty big but it works fine as long as you load enough herb to at least cover the screen. If that small amount is more than you need for one session, you can always put it away and next time just pick up where you left off.

first time I btried a torch I also didn't like it. then my only candleflame lighter broke, only the button/ignition, so at first Ikept using it by lighting it with the torch. I thouhht that was too much hassle, so I tried the torch again. and from the on I haven't looked back. IME the torches have a much larger sweet spot, so it's much harder to accidently get into combustionterritory. and I never thoughrt much about angles, just aim it straight at the hole. have tried holding it diagonal but that didn't work well for me.

Great that you have the wife to share it with, better still you're not doing so in some dreary inner city somewhere like so many.

That's not the sort of group I was talking about......my group meets Tuesdays and Thursdays for regular sessions. Good group, sometimes we have guys who drive out from the cities join for a while, but they don't last long. Much better than the AA group I used to belong to.....

Coil is a good unit, I think. Kinda hard to use alone (really shines in a bong). I sometimes stick mine through a hole in a paper towel tube and relive part of my misspent youth...... I think you'll like it, and it will teach you a lot. As you get into this I'm sure you'll notice two things, first off the nature of the stone is different (more clear and less stupefying) and you're going to see your herb bill drop to maybe half? Which is good, because you'll need the money for more vapes.

I agree with this. Once you get comfortable with it as a source of heat (not easy, waving it around in front of your face and all), it's easier to use I think. Position and aim are much less important and the fact that it's not making soot that can wreck things makes it easier for me. I switch around a lot so if it's been a while or it's a different candle flame lighter (I have a couple nice pipe lighters I really like) it's just more variables I have to mess with to get a hit or two.

Still, these are all tools to get a result. It's the craftsman using them that makes it happen.

Yep, I meant the metal screen (as if in a combustion pipe)...

Got it today! And yes, OF, it shines via the bong. Thanks to my pre-delivery research (and Stu's tutelage along with this thread), I knew what to expect when it arrived and how to fiddle with it. I loaded the bowl, stuck it in my bong, fired up my snazzy new lighter, and drew nice, tasty, cloudy hits--three of them--one after the other without futzing. My abv was true after finishing the rest and stirring with Vaporgenie's snazzy stirring stick. Best $35 my vapin' ass has spent so far. Thanks, Stu, for the suggestion.

This item will get a lot of playing time, at home and on the road.
