Maybe I'm getting a little off topic, but I've owned all of the torches listed here in the recent conversation as well as this one: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/jet-1300-c-butane-lighter-1320

The inexpensive Honest there is indeed a very nice, long lived torch for the price. Honest torches in general seem a cut above Xingu or no-name jet lighters.

I like the 1300C I linked because of its large tank, largish flame, and most importantly, its safety features. It has three different safety mechanisms, from locking the igniter, to locking the flow of fuel to physically putting on the cap which starves it for oxygen. The lack of safeties on the other models means they'll never go in my pocket.

I like that one too but its just a little too big.I have been putting my aluminum VG to the test the last few days I really love it the body does not get hot at all. The weight is really nice much heavier than the HC VG this one will not be going backpacking.

on the safety, that one I linked is delvered with a plastic clip, wich goes over the lower part of the button so the button can't be pushed in anymore. also a cap, but that comes off easily(with cap on it won't light)
I lost those buttonclips long ago tough, but I only carry these lighters in the inside pocket of my jacket where it's very hard to be lit on accident

A few questions to the VG fans:

Is it possible to heat the VG Coil outside the tube, in the side, preventing butane from being inhaled, without it being too hot too hold?

And, does anyone felt any throat pain using the VG with a piezolighter after a few weeks of regular daily use?

There is no "Tube" It's all coil, so butane would get in sides too.
I honestly think irritation is from dry heat, not butane. Like sucking on a Blow Dryer...right?
I just drink water, right before & right after. Also, sometimes, depending on how tasty the herb is, I tuck a mint, hard candy or piece of chewing gum in the side of my mouth. I haven't had any problem since I stopped letting my throat get too dry!.

Hope that helps!

Thanks guys, i was afraid the irritation could be related to the butane inhalation.

About the coil, i had no idea, that is very ingineous! :D

I had this problem with my Vapo Bowls (metal and glass versions) myself, it stopped as soon as I switched to the Vapocane (using the heat retention heating method only). I gave up on all lighter based vapes that will let you inhale butane or flames directly after that.

This isn't my home based vape...I have a Log type for my daily & Though I think battery powered portables are really cool, probably a bit cleaner, & I def would like to get one someday...
I ride motorcycles and feel, there's no better vape for being on the road & out in the wilderness for days camping!
And being able to use a torch style lighter w/the coil makes it a bit cleaner & less effected by wind!

So, I'd say...it's about what your using it for most...right?

Haha, my bike has two 12V outlets for vaping while camping MB ;)

Well, not just for vaping of course, but you get the idea. I'd like to bring a log on my next trip too to be honest :D

But I'm also thinking about a trying a Gnome, for a bit more portability. I don't mean to shit on this thread or the VG btw, I just don't like inhaling/tasting butane myself and thought I'd chime in and share my experience when I saw Vorrange his post.

But, since we're already going off-topic; whatcha riding dude? Perhaps it's time to start a bike-topic in the lounge

Oh yea...I'm the Women! LOL But Dude works! LMAO
DH...my mechanic (lol) is concerned about log vape on Bike Battery. Since it works best after long warm-up & then left plugged in. I need one that has a more instant heat-up, then use & un-plug. Dont wanna get stuck someplace w/daed battery because I'm a Hippie Dope Fiend (His PET name for me! At least till he retires & can join me!) ROFLMAO

BUT, for now, I'm covered w/my Apocalypse proof VaporGenie Coil! ;-D

I have a gn0me and i love it but i am still waiting for my portable torch, only have a big one that i use at home.

I like the genie too, i have the wood one, because it looks like a regular tobacco pipe and i can use it out in the open and it looks conventional so people don't look twice at me. :D

Oops, I meant dudette of course

That's not really a girly bike though, nice. Usually people who drive bikes like that don't really like what I ride, but here's my daily: click

And this my oldie: click me too

I finally sold my crotch rocket this weekend so I'm down to two now.

I talked a bit about log-vape-bike-battery use with UD-Dave, and according to him I could run a UD of my bikes battery for an hour or six and still leave it half full to be safe. Most logs use about the same, but of course it also depends on what kind of battery you have. Feel free to email me if you want to know more as I'm going way to much off-topic already (sorry guys).

What kind of torch do you use now and what do you have on it's way Vorrange? I went a little overboard a while ago and got quite a collection now, I may have them already, lol

That second one is what I use with my VG Coil and I find it perfect for me.

Funny (and small) world, this. I recognize, use and recommend the first.....

It's (or was at the time) the 'factory lighter' for the Lotus. I bought several more from Deal Extreme (three bucks) and 'spread them all over'. Very handy, big tank and aside from the original from Lotus no problems with any.

I just got a thin wire SS coil VG, and I really enjoy so far, however- I'd like to be able to assemble and disassemble it if necessary. It makes me more comfortable to know things like that, you know? I just can't figure it out though, it'd be really nice to know how to do that. Can somebody take me through it, step by step?

I don't do the sling-shot. I just stick my baby finger in and push it out. I do love the way it all fits together - I still get stuck sometimes just playing around with it taking it apart and putting it back together - great design.

Hi everyone I've been lurking on this forum for a while now and finally made an account. I bought the wavy hand carved VG and it seems like a nice unit but I have barely been able to use it. I bought a couple of cheap torch lighters and both have stopped working. I don't really like using the VG with traditional lighters so I ordered myself a Wall-Lenk blowtorch. Hopefully this will be reliable. Anyone else using hand torches with the VG? Any advice on a quality brand of fuel?

Howdy, welcome to the fun. VG has been the 'gateway vape' for many of us, that very model was my first vape in fact.

You need a reliable lighter, there's enough to do without having lighter issues on top of it. I go back and forth between a couple of torch type ones and a couple of 'candle flame' types left over from pipe smoking. Either will work, but torches have the advantage of not sooting up the heat exchanger.

Good fuel is very important in small torch units, it has to be pure. Vector brand is probably the most popular, stay away from Ronson as sold in the US, the European version is OK. Stores that sell fine cigars also sell premium gas for lighting them. Look for gas refined 3 or more times. BTW, for whatever reason, lots of the best gas seems to come from Korea.

Good luck, enjoy your VG and start thinking how you're going to spend the money you save on herbs. Then again, since you're no longer poisoning yourself with combustion you'll have more time to spend it.
