Not as easy as you might think. It fits well in a WT or other GonG joint (making a j hook a good call) but tubing or similar MPs that leave it horizontal seems to cause air leaks, it wants to stand vertical. If you go with tube, make it long.

I did just fine with the old standby 'der der' (the cardboard tube from paper towels). Punch a hole for it near one end for the coil and block that end (I folded it over and taped it). It failed after a while, but it was fun.....

Thanks guys! So, if I just hold it horizontal it leaks air? I just noticed that the coil of the heated part could be a little bit tighter… If I block the air path with my finger and draw, a lot of air still comes in? Could it be a defect?

Der der, heh? Maybe a kitchen paper towel der der, then? It would be like a cardboard steamroller!

maybe some trusty greek bamboo NF:tup:

the coil is boss with a WT like OF mentions.
I use mine with a jet torch but its designed to be used with a BIC.

I used it native on a roadtrip for 3 weeks solid.it worked well after I screwed the bowl as far away from the stone as possible.then I got baked like a cake.

Good luck Man!

In town visiting my parents for the holidays vape-less and I stopped by the LHS to grab some RAW papers when I saw a line of classic vapor genies sitting on the shelf. Only 59.99 and I'd thought about buying one at least 20 times before so I went for it. Really really liking it so far...absolutely no learning curve and haven't combusted once yet. Really impressed with how well it works. I bought it thinking it would take at least 3 or 4 bowls before I started to get the hang of it but I was getting nice tasty vapor right away. Will definitely be recommending this to friends who still combust.

@Jared Even at $60 it was still a bargain compared to the papers. I got my first when I needed to replace a lost bat for my dugout at a LHS a couple few years back.

The VG classic was my first vaporizer and is still one of my favorites. I'm still amazed at times at how good and how simple it works.

Always Tasty decently large clouds of vapor on demand that's still hard to match never mind beat in a portable vape.

For me it's still a Standard my other vapes are weighed against, portable or plug-in.

How big is the vapor path from the bowl to the mouth tip? I was thinking of taking a sander to my classic to give it a more straight pipe look.

Also, if you're interested, it fits into a water tool with a 0.5 in inner diameter tube. But it's more of a 2 person operation, can be done w/ 1, just less conveniently.

Got a torch lighter after reading through a good chunk of this thread and it works great. I was skeptical at first but after trying it I think I'll stick to a torch. For some reason it seems to vape a lot more evenly.

I'm not so sure it's all that more even for me, but it's sure much more consistent. That is it's easier to repeat conditions that work well over and over. I think it has to do with being easier to aim, I feel I have better control. Surprisingly it doesn't product more heat (in calories or BTUs) than a 'candle flame' using the same amount of gas, it's just easier to keep the heat on the heat exchanger.

It's also nice that it doesn't soot up the works.

Good upgrade, just in time for New Years......

I've combusted more times than I've care to think using a candle flame lighter. Using a torch I've only combusted when I deserved it.

It's totally counter-intuitive.

Vapor Genie is way off when they recommend not using a torch.

A torch totally works in windy conditions too which can't be said of a candle flame.

hey guys, just got my aluminum bat in the mail today :D i love this thing so much, already got the technique down pretty well, and 1 bowl kept me blasted all day (thanks to my tolerance). I just finished the bowl so sorry if i sound a little funny ;). but i highly recommend this thing.

I don't think ive seen this specific topic recently, but anyone know where to find a good refillable butane lighter on amazon? it would be much appreciated :)

One of my buddies who has been combusting for probably 6 plus years vaped one bowl with me out of the Vapor Genie and immediately went and bought one from the local headshop. So far everybody I've let use it loves it and no one has combusted. I really really don't understand how this thing isn't more popular. I get much bigger tastier hits than I ever got out of my room mates Pax and it's leagues above the MFLB with stock battery I've tried a few times. Can't really think of anything that they could improve on with this vape. Have a feeling my LSV will be getting a lot less use even when I get back home.

I agree, the Vapor Genie is an excellent vape no doubt about it. I admit that I wrote the VG off for a very long time and reading your post made me reflect on why I never picked up a VG until now.

For me it was the colored VGs that you see on ebay and all over the place. I just thought that is must be a low grade experience because they're so cheap. I had a few incorrect pre-judgements about what the Vapor Genie really was. Reading posts from some of the members that post here frequently I knew there was something to VG and I really needed took a second look. Man was I wrong and I'm glad I took a serious look.

Yeah the perception of value is way off probably for most people or at best it's dismissed as a starter vape which means most people miss out on even giving it a chance.

For others like myself, the monkey must be fed and the pursuit of perfection leads to other purchases, relagating the peice to the back of the quiver....maybe to be rediscovered some day in the future.

I went with the classic in maple after quitting combustion which I had taken back up due to a bad first vaping experience with a "high quality" MFLB couterfiet.

I kind of dig the funkiness of the classics. They look retro. You can scoop big old bowls directly from your grinder with it and I think it performs marginally better than my much classier HC.

While I liked my HC VG when I first got it, I tended to use my MFLB more cause I hadn't discovered the torches yet. I used regular lighters and hemp wick back then and my throat didn't like it for some reason. So I gave up on VG's for a long time but recently I had to get a low cost vape as a back up to the Crafty and the Coil emerged as a good candidate.
Well, now my Coil is here and after a few days of mixed results (and lot of charring… ) I find it to be on par with the Lotus in flavor and aromas, faster to get a good cloud and even more robust and tough in construction. I also like the added bonus that I can still use it even if I don't have a torch around. And it is also more easy to conceal as it doesn't look like something suspicious and needs even less tending than the Lotus to look pristine and work well. I doubt that anything bad will ever happen to it with that tank like built. It should last for many generations of tokers with no need for spare parts whatsoever, unlike most of the vapes out there.
I still haven't shipped my faulty Crafty in for replacement and I find myself not even thinking about it. I am getting amazing results with the coil and I must say I enjoy the sessions even more than the Crafty. With the Crafty it's like getting a couple of shots in quick succession… With the Coil it's like sipping on a nice pilsner for as long as you want at a time or grab the bottle and take it all in at another, depending on the mood.

I am amazed by the little thing… More to come… And I found the perfect stem of course! :p Even easier to hold than with the Lotus vapor cap. Great feeling through the sessions. And the Carfty's pick is perfect for stirring and tamping down the load!

Only just got one of these its a standard maple version and it is just as good as some of my expensive stuff , don't know why I have never ordered one before today .
I prefer to use a soft flame although I have used my lotus torch and I can get it to work just have to be careful not to combust . it much quicker at producing vapor than the lotus ,I think I will be using this quite a bit............

Finally back home with access to concentrates. I've been putting small dabs of budder on top of my last few VG bowls and it's absolutely amazing. Definitely my new favorite way to portably vape concentrates. Especially if you've got some good tasting flower...low temp dab taste+vaped flower taste is pretty awesome. Also ever since I got a torch lighter and learned how to control the temperature the flavor is easily as good or possibly even better than my LSV.

I agree with you NF! I 've sold my VG classic because I had the lotus as flame-powered vape.
But I miss my VG.
Finally, I think it was easier to have a good cloud with the VG and a lot faster! May be because of the lotus stem who cool down the vapor a lot. It's more difficult to put the lotus in a pocket too...
May be I will pick a new VG but I hesitate between a HC one and the bronze VG.

The free draw when compared to my Lotus is wonderful

Hmmm hmmm..... I like this!!! :D

The little $5 torch I bought a few days ago broke so I went out and found this one today. Can't say how long it'll last but so far its my favorite torch I've had. The button is so easy to press and the shape is great for the VG. Was only like ~$15.

Looks similar to a very popular unit around here, hope it works out.

For those I haven't yet bored to tears over this, this is my favorite (currently on sale for under $3 shipped):
http://www.dx.com/p/jet-1300-c-butane-lighter-1320#.VLLjqMnSO9I

For those 'on a mission' and willing to pay the princely sum of $3.49 each (you need to buy $15 total for free shipping) you can get it delivered in a week or so:
http://www.dxsoul.com/product/jet-1300-c-butane-lighter-901001320#.VLLjtcnSO9I

I've bought lots of these over the years, great for routine uses, I've got them spread around (in the car, two here on the desk, some in the garage, one for lighting candles at the table, one outside at the BBQ......). I've also given a number of them away. And lost some more. But, as of yet, I've never had one fail on me.

At the low cost and excellent performance I recommend ordering a few anyway?

Thanks for the kind words, but I think you really need to get out more........

Although I am glad that you're the one that got the lame lighter, not me. How did yours die? Now that I think about it, one of the ones I lost had the safety break (wouldn't hold the flame on any more, a feature I don't normally need). It still made hot, so I used it until it ran away.

Better luck with the next try. Maybe mine keep working because replacements are so handy?
