What I don't have a clue about is the different properties of the wood or metal and how it effects your vaporizing experience. Does the different types of wood and metal serve a practical purpose
I was going to get the bronze piece, but I got an NO2 instead.
Wood and metal are entirely different for our use here. Wood is going to add some flavor (at least when new/clean) but is basically useless at removing heat (aside from making the path longer, in which case 'everything' will be at least as good).
Metals, OTOH, have serious potential. From your Aluminum and SS bat experience you know that they don't all perform the same WRT to cooling and getting hot in use. Two metal thermal properties are important here, Thermal Conduction (how fast heat can move through it) and Specific Heat (how much actual heat it takes to raise the temperature of the metal, how much heat it can 'soak up'. Aluminum conducts much better than SS, which is why it gets hot so fast.
The use of Bronze is not an accident. It not only conducts heat well (can 'draw it out of the vapor' well) but it has a lot of 'heat capacity' (specific heat) per gram and there's a LOT of it so it can suck up a lot of heat without getting too warm. Since getting the Bronze one, my other VGs are getting mighty lonely. I suggest you reconsider it.
