Vapman

Hi, first post to the Vapman thread. Been really enjoying my Vapman lately.

I made this little 14mm adapter at the suggestion of a customer

First off, that thing is freakin' awesome!!! Congrats.

As someone who sucks at his Vapman, and has been (im)patiently waiting for a station, am I wrong to think that hit was combusting??? Like I said, I suck, so I'm the last person who should be saying something, but the amount of seconds you were holding the flame to it, followed by the vapor, or the smoke coming from it - that really didn't have any combustion there? If not, I'm saving this vid to practice with.

So what says you good people, too many seconds with the flame, or just right?

Hey @TeaCup, no combustion. I think it was like 5 on a few off and 5 on with a small torch. probably seems like smoke because it can be hard to produce vapor with the Vapman. I always found that the air holes were the problem for me

Trust me, I had already counted my 1 mississippi's after I saw it! Interested as heck to try this, now only if I didn't have a wood that I'm allergic too with my Vapman then I'd be all set.

If anyone's ahead of me in line at the Vapman store come this September, watch out for my elbows, they're knobby and sharp and I'm flailing my way to the front of that station line come hell or high water! On my way now..........🚣‍♂️

Hey I need some help from the Vapman community. If you have calipers I need some info to help me with my WPA.

My wood mouthpiece section has a hole that is 6.15mm or so from end to end. Apparently they may not all be like this. Some may be smaller at the screen.

If you are willing to take off the bottom screen and measure the small opening, you would be doing me a huge favor.

I assumed that they were all the same size because mine and the 2 testers that went out were all the same and fit fine. I have the basic but don't know if it is an original.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Unfortunately, the battery of the caliper is empty and I rarely to never have to measure in the tenth of a millimeter range. 😇

But as a clue it can already confirm your guess, the diameters can be different.

The first middlepiece is from an Olive Vapman and estimated around 6.2mm. The second is from a Cocobolo and has a little more than 6.5mm diameter.

Note to myself: consider extensive cleaning. :D

@Gourmet thank you!!! Thats exactly what I would expect to see since mine comes in around 6.15.

Spoke with the rep/owner? on Instagram and here is what they said about the MP hole

"It should ba 6,28 but there is a tolerance of 0,2mm"

Can’t decide what I think of that plastic egg. Looks like it‘s maybe made from a recycled material, so less plastic in the world, so yea! (Edit: apparently, it’s hemp plastic.) Also, looks quite a lot like a cow pile, so ewww…

Overall, though, beautiful presentation, and the angled cut on the brush handle is very clever

is this thing on?
It is not plastic, it's biodegradable hemp. That whole packaging is quite amazing. And the new Vapman looks neat too, especially the basic. They sign each set too, I can sense the passion.
Looks like René chose the new owners wisely! All I see so far looks really premium. What is the pricing? Anyone knows?

I wonder if you fine folks have any input for me, as I've been unable to concoct any search terms that come up with pertinent results.

In a sequence of a comedy of errors, I used acetone to clean the interior bowlpiece of my vapman classic and subsequently overheated it, after which the color of the bowlpiece was lightened substantially from the usual bronze finish to white (I can't speak to the relationship between the two acts). I am in the process of replacing it but I wonder whether it is likely to still be safe for use? Does anyone know what exactly happened?

I appreciate you taking the time to read this post, and hope you all enjoy the new model that looks to be trickling out now!

with all the torching the pan gets oxidized and the acetone basically dissolved that oxidized layer revealing fresh copper. i think

That new kit looks great!

I have a felling I'll be wanting a second Vapman once these start moving.

Damn you, René, for choosing good new people to run the show! (a message from my wallet)

I don't believe this is so. The pan is Gold plated, specifically so the Copper won't oxidize. It's not an indestructibly thick of course, and is soft enough to get damaged if you go at it too aggressively with metal tools. Without this protection the pan would quickly look like an old penny. That is darker, not "white", right?

Nor do I believe Acetone will dissolve the oxide, Does it make that old penny shine?

My guess is the damage comes from something else. High heat, perhaps?

Regards to all.

I believe this is the case (that the bowlpiece is gold-alloy plated), it is the presence of the copper in the heating element and any potential interaction with the alloys in gold that I am worried about. Being as copper is a bit dangerous in this capacity.

Pic of the offending bowlpiece

I've cleaned it up a bit since this pic and lightly applied some white vinegar that has restored some of the gold hue but it is still a whitened and blackened color. I question whether a bit of acid, even in the form of some coca cola etc., might do some good. Or some additional harm, my judgment is clearly poor. Sorry for the vapman gore. I appreciate the input!

I don't like the new egg. It's gone from a thing of elegance to a badly shaved coconut.

IIRC you can't plate Gold alloys (which would typically be Silver?). As I recall, the Gold ions plate out atom by atom. Using a really nasty chemical bath. To do Sliver atoms, you'd need different chemistry and voltage. Gold is considered inert, it doesn't react with typical materials (which is why King Tut's Gold mask is still pristine today. Likewise, Gold survives nicely in shipwrecks in salt water.

As I said, heat is the only cause I can think of. It looks to me like the mica is burned? I've no idea of health risks, but like you I don't trust it. Perhaps René will wonder by and make us wise?

I think you killed it with fire, probably glowing red at one point? Haven't seen this before! Brave posting, it's very 2021!

I like that they eleminated the plastics (apart from the torch). But on the other hand, on a camping trip I'd take the older egg.

(sorry for double post, please merge it, Mods)
