Discontinued VapeXhale Cloud EVO

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried this and it does allow me to get a nice hit, but I still cannot clear an ELB (no combustion) in one hit anymore such as with the original cloud. I just cannot get my Mobius to milk like it used it with a nice thick layer, but now only really thin layers so I am pretty sure it is running cold. After I build thermal mass the unit does get very hot, to hot to touch. I have opened a ticket with VXL to see what they have to say on the issue and will go from there.

On a side note, if we have to build up thermal mass each time, we are not really getting a faster heat up time than the original unit, which took 10 min and green meant green. Now green means nothing if we have to build a thermal mass. I just would like an indicator that is accurate and green means go like it used to be.

Just my opinion and 2 cents. I got to do a real thorough testing of a re-calibrated EVO courtesy of @lazylathe. I was able to compare to my past Cloud and Plus, and now @lazylathe lent me his Cloud+ which runs very similar heat wise to my OG. So i've had an opportunity to run some serious testing.

I think it's true, the Cloud+ runs "too" hot. I never go beyond 2-3:00 on the dial and even that was hotter than max temp on re-calibrated EVO. The 2 vaporizers are similar, but different too which leads me to believe that your EVO may be working correctly (based on it getting super hot at top) but your technique needs to change.

At first, I couldn't get the ABV as dark as I wanted on the EVO, but that's because I was trained to pull super hard on the OG and Plus, which operate awesome on hard pulls. I think the EVO is a bit different... you CAN pull hard on it, but I think it's better to pull slower and watch it milk. I dunno, give that a try anyway before a support ticket.

I know the EVO can pump some vapour in a few minutes, but thermal mass is where it's at, and for that reason, I would give it more like a 15+ min. warmup time.

You are right I am used to pulling hard. Charging up from cold atm so in 20 min or so I will be updating this post with a slow pull from my Mobius with .11 of grinded flowers.

Result was a little thicker, but not like I am use to. I am also going to get some new material this week to see if it has a difference. The ABV is def lighter on the EVO. Maybe I am just use to the old unit running much hotter. I am however still dissapointed green does not really mean go. The EVO did go backwards here if this is the normal for everyone from cold.

On neither of my 2 Clouds, nor my 2 Cloud+'s, did green mean go ... it's always taken a good 10-20 minutes of heat-up time to get to optimal operation ... I can hit my EVO within 5 minutes and get decent sized clouds, just means to turn up to max to start, then turn down. My EVO is an improvement in accuracy of green/red as an indicator over both prior models that I've owned ...

So mine is def not working right if you can receive clouds at 5 min. I cannot even do that at full temp. As far as original units I guess they all worked different. I had a waiting list preorder unit and when it hit green at 10 min. it was fully ready to vape.

the OG's did go green at 8-10mins....lotsa variables at play. But my Cloud+'s go green much quicker, and yet like JCat said, even though you can get vapour, longer heatup makes a pretty big difference.

I too pine for the OG and Plus days, they don't get scalding hot either, and I think overall I liked the performance better. However, now that I have bronchitis again (had it bad a couple months back and now another damn cold/bronchitis), and never having it before in my life has been a huge wakeup call for me to stop vaping so often and especially cut down on the temps and quest for dark ABV.

I'm digging how Stonemonkey is saying that too high of a temp can create a vapour/smoke hybrid and I sometimes wonder if the temp is where it's at due to it being so geared as a medical device, and maybe to avoid any possibility of combustion?

One thing that would be great to clarify - Stonemonkey said originally that the EVO wouldn't get hot on the hands, yet it is very hot on top and now a neoprene has been developed? Something tells me that this won't be the last revision of the Cloud/EVO and we're going to see something even more innovative in the not too distant future.

It's funny you mentioned vaping "too much" @biohacker . While I'm at University, since I spend way more time alone than I usually do, I find myself having 5-6 vape/ dab sessions a day...seriously. Being alone 12+ hours a day sucks. The EVO would be continuously on for at least 6 of those hours too.

I noticed every night I'd have coughing fits quite often, and appreciated the fact that you actually CAN back down temperature on the EVO pretty well. I'll often drop down to the 12-1 range on the EVO and just use it there without the white wall vapour. While I don't get the same visual satisfaction, it makes my lungs feel way better. I don't feel like I need to cough up phlegm nearly as much. Plus it still fills the glass pieces very well.

Not that I ever had that problem when I only did one high temp session a day, but after 12+ bowls at around 3:30...the lungs just start telling me "fuck you".

@Dabowski , I forgot to mention this in my previous post. IME at least it's been important. I too have Mobius pieces, and I can milk the big bubbler with a long steady pull. I find a short primer hit helps a lot, too. Personally I really prefer this compared to the sharp hard bong style hits of the past; it's a lot easier on my old body. At any rate, seems to me that the different pull I'm using now optimizes the extraction technology in the EVO and produces better results.

Exact same problem as last time, After using it and turning it off I would hear small cracking noises which eventually got louder and then tonight I examined the bamboo with a flashlight it has a very large crack in the exact same spot as last time.
If it was the EVO causing the breaking, the glass should break randomly, in different spots. If it really did crack the same as last time, try to analyze how you're inserting and removing it and see if the crack lines up with you accidentally scraping the glass against the joint or something :2c:

Nah I guess I didn't quite explain properly, I have been as careful as humanly possible with my evo and I have had my cloud+ for more than a year without any breaking or anything like that, So I highly doubt it's from me being careless. It didn't just crack in one place, it cracked all the way down the bamboo and theres now glass dust all inside of my evo, I would basically hear the cracking noise after using it and after about a week of hearing that It seemed to have just snapped. After reading what stone monkey said, it seems to make sense that the eve is being broken during shipping because the box they sent mine in is extremely small and there was not much room for bubble wrap

Seeing all these excellent VXN bits has me chompin' at the bit! I have received the two I ordered. Now I need to find something to put in it (my state is not yet illuminated).

I do have ~1/2 a bottle of 99%ISO that has been used since Thanksgiving to clean my glass... That shit is the color of cola.

So for a fool like me who has never had the pleasure to experience any concentrates, would you 'make do' with evaporating that ISO or would you procure some actual concentrates?

And is the VXN the right place for hashish (to my mind this seems like primitive concentrates, but I dunno...)? Or stick to the ELB?

Vapes on vapes on vapes!
....man that concentrate tool is some decadent shit....that thing really delivers...
I wholeheartedly agree. I've had quite a good weekend thanks to the VXNails. My only  moment was when I thought one of the nails had something on the exterior bottom of the glass and I tried to wipe it off using my finger... I had been cleaning the nail at he time and had the EVO on max with the nail in for a while. I'm no stranger to a little finger burn though so I got some water and ice on it ASAP and there's not even a visible mark on my finger the next day. I wasn't quite in my best state of mind at the moment it happened and that's why I failed to remember that when I am cleaning the nail on max the bottom (especially) will be hot. ;)

One absent-minded mistake aside, my experience has been great. I haven't messed with the temps too much as I have found I like the flavor and vapor at noon. It also works well with my load amounts to keep the nail pretty clean after a few min max burnoff. There's still the discoloration on the higher part of the nails that you see in the pictures that have been posted. Mine are a little less dirty than the pictures posted, but I may have been using less and clean them a lot with ISO and scrape the harder parts off using the honeybun tool.

....the shatter is the most potent...and the messiest...that crumble you see in my picture is easier to load, but you can tell the difference from the shatter in potency...I used to put hash in the elb, with no problem other than a real dirty elb that required constant cleaning cause oily material would clog the little vents...not good for draw..works in nail but really doesn't need to be vaped past 10 on dial...IMO.....spent the whole weekend NEVER going past 11 on the dial for concentrates...impact?...I was righteously fucked-up...and I mean fucked-up.

Great Scott!
On the green light debate I have to agree. I see my evo go green and just think "yeah thats cute, but you aren't even kind of ready." The OG cloud when I saw green I'd start hitting it. Now I have to see the green light and just ignore it and wait another 10 min or so. It does feel like the green light is there to say "faster warmup time" but really its just faster until the meaningless green light. I have to really wait for the evo to be usable, it feels like a little longer than the OG cloud in fact, so the green light coming on within minutes almost feels like it is mocking you.

As for shatter being hard to use and mess in the vapexnail, I can't think of how that is possible. I break off some shatter and drop it in the top. Falls right to the bottom, and if it happens to stick to the side poke it with a dabber to free it so it falls. I find shatter 100000x easier to use in the vapexnail than any other consistency, simply because you just drop it in while the others need to basically be wiped into the nail. I've used some wax just fine, but I can't fathom how it could get easier than break a piece and drop it in.

Everything I've used in the vapexnail has worked great, and it REALLY is self cleaning. I throw it on max for like 1-2 min and it comes out clean and ready for the next dab (once it cools down in a few min).

Haha no offense meant, it just has always seemed like the easiest to handle concentrate for me. I can just plop it down and snap off a piece and drop it in, no dabber even needed. Tried that with a wax and had to use the dabber to scrape it all off my finger lol.

So I ordered myself one of these off of Etsy (cost: $18, shipping: $11! kinda pricey IMO, but my GAS requires it) to hold my hot vxnails (once FedEx frickin' delivers!). There's several available for anyone that wants to snatch one up. They're supposed to hold 13mm test tubes, which I figure is perfect for the vxnail.

In the meantime, I was at Lowe's and saw this "Build and Grow" kid's project
Cost: $5

and thought to myself, "Hmmm, now what can I do with this if I drill some holes on top?": Viola!
GQdjwH9.jpg

(Perfect for my broken beta vxnail! Does anyone know if blue tape is heat resistant up to 400 deg F ? Does it off-gas?:freak:)
syyDFjF.jpg

It was a silly project (btw, Sable is not bottomless, she simply made a poor great choice in swimwear) and if I had it to do over again, I'd probably orient the locker sideways so I could drill more holes & fit more utensils. But as I now have my test tube rack on the way, I doubt I'll redo this, even though my OCD is telling me I need to.:mental::disgust:

Got my Evo yesterday, gonna get my Sidecirc today!

So, yeah... After initial testing, the Evo is stellar, above and beyond even the Cloud+ I love. The $450 price tag was a little stiff in retrospect ($350 would be perfect IMO), but I'm very pleasantly vaked and it's worth it all the same. :D

That said, this is just with the standard glass mouth piece (the design of which has changed slightly since last time I ordered one for my Cloud+, for some strange reason) and I'm already impressed. I haven't used a Hydratube before, so this'll be an enlightening experience to the say the least!

[e]: Some improvements I'm enjoying already -

Color of glass end on Evo changes from red-green-red as you pass over the current temp, very neat addition compared to "red when changing temp only" as before

Detachable power cord

"Cleaner" heating algorithms/temperature enhancements over the Cloud+, ie lower temp getting quality tasty vapor and higher temp getting vapor clouds

Better design on glass tubing to keep it from sliding around like on my Cloud+

Better bamboo covering as a heat shield to keep from burning my hands vs Cloud+

The ability to do cleaner, lower-temp dabs (gonna try this when I get the chance)

Sturdier base

Light-weight is a plus

I can go on, but the tweaks across the board are noticed and appreciated. Keep on keepin' on, VXL!

Only downside I see so far, though, is that the left-over ABV is a much lighter color of brown than the almost black ABV I got from my Cloud+. Is this normal?

- Turn your EVO on at max. When green, wait ~15 minutes for the unit to build thermal mass. The top should be very hot to touch, almost too hot.
- Drop setting to 3
- Fill ELB loosely 1/4-1/2 full
- Take a short primer hit
- Then take a long steady pull - not hard/fast. Repeat.

What result do you get? Sometimes the flowers can be fully extracted w/o getting cooked as dark as with the previous Cloud. You can test this by trying to vape the ABV in your Plus. Also note that earlier generation units sometimes ran hot, resulting in more darkening than necessary.

Thanks for the advice!

Also, what do you mean by "more darkening than necessary"? I thought the darker you could make AVB without combusting was better, right? Or what is considered optimal? I've heard golden brown ABV is the best apparently for extraction, which mine mostly is with still a fair amount of green dispersed in an ABV pile so far. Gonna try your method later tonight (with the Sidecirc!!) then see how it goes!

[e]: Also, how long do you recommend heating the EVO before you can detach the power cord and pass it around with a group of friends?

[e2]: Holy shitballs, I think I got the technique down (the Sidecirc definitely aids in this!!). Bravo VXL, I have a heroic tolerance and I'm baked as a cake. :D
