Both are in my top 3 so I am going to be very objective.

Here are some qualities the dog has that I feel the EVO does not. The Underdog is visually beautiful, and great for a quick session. You will save a ton of material using it. It is a tank not near as prone to electronic or manufacturing defects . Nothing is easier to use either. Also the owners have a strong presence on here and are very friendly.

However the EVO is my favorite desktop. I love having a log, but as far as options as far as your dose, being able to deliver my cannabis in a way that truly helps me with my IBS effectively, keeping the flavor pure with hash, having better options with oil and wax, and being a machine that keeps the full flavor with all the benefits of water, the EVO is just the top vaporizer as far as I can tell. It sets a new standard in extraction and delivery.

Just wanted to give an update on my EVO drama. After a few attempts to get my replacement EVO shipped faster than 11 days, I finally asked that Jeff just cancel my order. I told him that it was clear I wasn't going to be happy with VXL's customer service and that I would like a full refund.

Jeff ignored my cancellation request. Instead, less than 30 minutes later, he wrote that he had just sent out a replacement EVO via 2nd day air. That was the day before Thanksgiving but the replacement unit still didn't arrive until one week later. By the time it finally arrived I had already left town for a week.

The day after the replacement EVO arrived, Jeff asked if I'd had a chance to try it out. I replied that I hadn't had a chance yet but would be in touch when I had. The next day (today) Jeff emailed again and said:

"Attached is a prepaid shipping label. Will you please get the defective unit sent back to us? We are experiencing a shortage of EVOs in the shop right now and we really need to get the unit back asap. Please help and get it dropped off today if you can."

This really upset me!

From Jeff's email it would appear that VXL is taking defective EVO units like mine and refurbishing them and sending them out to new customers.

It makes me question whether the replacement unit I was sent is one of these used and refurbished units. I paid for a new EVO and that's what I want. Not a refurbished used defective unit that has been hanging out in someone else's home for a while.

I sent Jeff the email below. I don't know if I can ever really feel confident that I have a new and unused unit now.

"Your email did bring up some questions. Why do you need my used and defective unit because of an EVO shortage? That implies that you will be shipping my defective unit out to a new customer, presumably after you’ve fixed the switch. My unit is one of the ones with the defective bamboo that is too small. Will you just sell my EVO to someone else and hope they don’t care about the defective bamboo?

This also raises the question of the replacement unit you sent me. Now I’m guessing that my replacement unit is also going to be refurbished which is not okay with me after having paid the price for a new unit and waited for weeks to get a functioning unit and hydratube. Can you please tell me if the unit you sent me is new or refurbished? If it is new, how can I verify this for myself?"

Just heard back from Jeff at VXL:

"There is nothing wrong with the defective unit you have other than the switch not functioning, and it is a very easy fix. We are experiencing an overwhelming demand right now with the holiday sale that just ended and are having supplier fulfillment delays on top of it. We are not going to knowingly send a defective unit to a new customer.

All of the bamboos going out from the shop are currently that size, unfortunately, so yes we will probably just fix the on/off switch and fulfill an outstanding order. Although, I can not speak for the shop."

So there you have it straight from VXL. They are indeed shipping out refurbished units to customers who believe they are getting new units. Not only that but they are knowingly shipping out the units with defective bamboos that don't fit the ELBs properly.

I think these are some very shady business practices and are unethical if not illegal. I'd love to hear what others here think.

I think these are some very shady business practices and are totally unethical if not illegal. I'd love to hear what others here think. I'm no attorney but I would think advertising units as new and sending known defective and/or refurbished units is false advertising and grounds for a class action lawsuit.

How do you gather that they are refurbished from what he said?

The out of tolerance bamboo sucks for sure, if you are not OK with how the ELBs fit, then keep being persistent. I'm not sure you can call them defective, it's a hand made part, that it appears from others you can still make the ELBs fit with a bit of 'massaging'. ELB fit issues have happened in VXL past.

I didn't say there were all refurbished. Just that they apparently sometimes send out refurbished units as new:

"yes we will probably just fix the on/off switch and fulfill an outstanding order."

In an earlier post, I quoted Jeff as saying:

"We just discovered that the latest batch of bamboos supplied to us were off spec by 5,000th of an inch making it smaller and causing the baskets to not fit as well as they normally do."

With such a tight tolerance and the talk of a "batch" of bamboos, I don't believe they are handmade. It seems VXL just received a defective part and are going ahead and using the known defective part without telling their customers unless they bring up a problem with the ELBs. Even then, judging from a previous post on this forum some people just get told to deform their ELBs in order to make them fit.

Im also perturbed about possibly being sold a refurb evo for 400 dollars. I get uneven performance alot of the times..i really like the evo but it takes a backseat to my minivap all the time now..and all this talk about tight elb.my elb just slide right out..incant even invert this thing..everyone has told me to fiddle with them to make bigger but no matter what i do..it will be snug and then i invert and then splash..this is a bummer..i wanna know what @stonemonkey55 has to say??he had alot to say about china hydtatubes??and not a single peep on his own thread with all of these issues..people jumping head first off of the mighty and crafty because of issues..lol..at least they are new..and i dunno im just bummed about this fire sale of flawed evo and glass..could any other company get away with this??because they are friend of site??or a founding member..it just doesnt make it right..shady,shady,shady

Ok where do people put their hot nails? Will the nail buddy I just ordered work safely with both the glass and quartz?

Also I would trust these guys. They came through for me, and they will for you too. Their prices have dropped to the point where most of us can now enjoy them, and I am positive they will make it right. I mean Sticks is going to see us through if anything goes wrong at all. We are with a good company, I've leaned the truth about them. This machine is healing my health, and IBS in particular, in a very strong way.

I dont like what i am reading, the elbs are very tight fit and seems like i too hzve the bad bamboo batch. I woud rather return and purchase later and payva little more thsn live with a defective unit.

Already used three elbs and a nail. How would the return process work? Do i keep these or clean the and return shole package? Anylne every had issues with refund from them? Any surprises at the end?

Damn for the amount of $$$$$$$$$ I'd think it would all be brand fucking new. At least that's how normal business practices work.

Yeah I do hope they didn't resell my original unit from the anniversary sale, which had also arrived with the disconnected/nonfunctional switch (and as I recall, seemingly no discernible notch at all)... I spent a whole weekend and two days running load after load through it despite its flaws... As a discounted factory second or refurb unit sure, but not to someone who ordered new... I'm sure this will all be cleared up (I hope?) :uhh::shrug:

All that being said, yeah when you do got a good one the getting is gooooooood :ko:

I guess I was fortunate that I ordered mine during the first big sale, since aside from a few issues (switch being a little temperamental, knob being incorrectly calibrated) it's been a pretty flawless experience. I hope VXL isn't sending out refurbished units to new costumers, but maybe a representative could pop into the thread to clarify the company's position on this.

I also have a quick question for you folks! How long is "safe" to leave the VXL nail in the EVO for a burn off? For context I have the unit cranked up to max temp (not sure if that's necessary for burn off or not) and I leave the nail in for like 1-2 minute intervals, as I'm terrified of melting the glass and harming my EVO. Makes the process a little harrowing to say the least! Is it safe to leave the nail in for a longer period of time during burn off? It just occurred to me that I might actually be doing the nail worse harm by letting it heat and cool so frequently.

Happy Holidays guys! Thank you all for the support during the holiday sale. I just read a few things here and wanted to clear the air so everyone could understand.

1. We do not sell refurbished units. Yes, there was verbiage between a support rep and customer that we needed the unit back for parts to fulfill orders. This is for several reasons, one is to diagnose the issue and the second, is take any of the parts that are usable and build additional machines.

What are these machines for?

Simple, we give them to patients, veterans, and other people from lower socio economic backgrounds that can't afford an EVO. We also give them to dispensaries, vape lounges, and use them for our tradeshows. When these are shipped out to these parties, they are all referred to as "work orders" internally and that is where I believe the confusion is from.

I will admit that we have had our fair share of fulfillment mistakes over the holidays. We had to hire additional people, train them, and minimize mistakes but we've been sending out replacements and/or correct items and small little gifts to show that we are sorry that you didn't get what you wanted during the first shipment. Back to work for me.

I'm about to purchase my first desktop vape ever and I am torn between a log vape (e-nano or UD) and this beauty here... Should I spend double the money to get the Cloud or should I go with the efficiency route and go with a log vape? I know they both can milk a bong nicely and from everything I've read, they're both stellar devices. I currently own a Mighty, Crafty and Pax 2 and I'm not sure which desktop to get at the moment (leaning towards the Cloud). It would be extremely helpful if someone who has experience with both vaporizer to chime in and assist me with my purchase. Thank you.

The E-Nano and UD are great log vapes. But after using the Cloud, it would be very difficult for me to switch back to a log-vape. Here's why..

1) Ease of use. The EVO feels luxurious because of how easy it is to use compared to log vapes. You can pre-pack a couple of bowls, pre-pack some hash in the nail, leave them sitting in or around the unit, and just take hits whenever you please. There's no "technique" to hitting it, you just hit it. With my DBV I spent so much of my time stirring the bowl and finagling with the temperatures to be able to fully extract my bowls. Because of this, I think the EVO is the perfect vape for watching shows and movies.

2) Versatility. Being able to painlessly and instantly switch from herb to milky hash hits brings a lot of value to this vaporizer for me. It would be hard for me to now use a vaporizer that can't do both functions as well.

3) Full extraction. I haven't used every log vape, only a very popular one (DBV). The problem with DBV (and I assume this would extend to log vapes using the popular ceramic heating element setup) is that the herb material isn't fully, evenly heated. My AVB coming out of the DBV is consistently much brighter and looks much less vaped than the AVB coming out of the Evo. If I raise the temperature on the DBV enough, I can get the bowl to get darker, but it's uneven (usually only gets the center of the bowl) and tastes funky. Through the EVO, the taste is always great, even at the very end of my bowls.

Not to say log vapes don't have their purpose or use. Many of the best vapes out there for the price are log-vapes. But for me the EVO provides an experience that's on another level.
