it's been covered, and I suggest you read this thread. but congrats on the new EVO. I never go above 2:30 or so anymore, and it's rare that I go that hot. going hotter than that just seems to rob flavor. I usually hang out around 12:00-1:00 for herb. huge clouds are possible for me at 1:00
ive been setting mines higher and waiting a bit but im not getting any clouds and when i check the elb the contents are still green,so im wondering if i have to let it preheat for a while

I think a reason I saw the flash/explosion is because of the gauge (micron) of the SS ELB's. I've noticed before that when I load only kief into an ELB, especially when freshly cleaned, all it takes is a slight shake to make kief escape the ELB. Granted it's not a giant amount but still enough for me to notice it, so maybe a cloud of kief came out, dropped towards the heater, igniting and then maybe sparking the kief in the bowl too. Granted I put a few shovels of kief into the ELB.

This is my favorite kind of science :science:

I would try this: set the dial to 2:00 and give it a good 10-15 minutes to warm up. I don't get ideal results with herbs without a quick warmup. it really shouldn't take 15 minutes... I just threw that number out there to be safe, because the unit should absolutely be ready to go after 15 minutes without question. the upper half of the unit should be warm/hot to the touch. fill up an ELB around 1/3-1/2 full and take a long steady draw. if you still aren't getting clouds at that point, I would open a support ticket.

does pouring iso through over and over again acutally work for cleaning it...?
i think i might just wait for some extra long q tips...

How's the longevity/durability proving ground on this Evo?
I had nothing but failures on my tickers and plus<~what's plural of that?~ and I want to hear those are troubles of the past..
But if there are still bugs, let me know that too.

If you've been reading this thread for a bit you would see that there really aren't many unhappy EVO owners in North America. I think there was a firmware tweak, and the odd RMA, but i'd be confident enough to buy an EVO right now. The customer service is apparently better than ever, and things seem to be rolling around nicely. Always nice to get an update from SM55, but as expected the CVO will be busier than anything serving the customers.

RE: Burnt taste/smell.... I had this as well with the Cloud+ and it was 100% a dirty bamboo which I was able to clean well enough by letting it run on max temp for a while, then when completely cold i'd use an iso qtip and do the best I could. Also make sure that your temp isn't too high for that particular strain...always best to start lower for flavour. I'm starting to tone things down due to lung irritation/chronic bronchitis, so I rarely go above 2:00 on the dial....would be about 3:00-4:00 on the EVO.

RE: Pop/explosion....I mentioned this when @lazylathe allowed me to borrow his new EVO. Had it frequently with the EVO, and it was a definite "flash" and poof! pop! But it was harmless and has to do with the size of the bamboo IMO. I never, repeat never have this happen at the same temps with the Cloud+ and my ELBs are a bit looser in the Cloud+ bamboo, which leads me to that theory.

I've been using the Cloud+ alot more lately....damn, I am a VXL and Epic Vape fan, and love both to death, but nothing matches that wide open airflow, volume of vapour, and taste than a Cloud (EVO)!

Happy to help....I too had all the failures in the past with my Clouds, and understand the apprehension, but the EVO hasn't been around long enough to withstand the test of time. Fortunately the warranty is pretty good and the customer service is there for you. This is a vape that is somewhat intricate, so failures can and will happen....if you can accept that then you will be getting the best damn vape on the planet in so many areas. Nothing can replicate my old bong toking experience like the Cloud! The Hydratubes are alot of fun too.

For pre-heat set the dial at 3 and when it turns green, dial down to your preferred setting (with the herb I typically get, 2 works best but this varies with herb, dryness, and grind). Wait until the top section gets very hot, usually about 10 minutes.

Something that many of us, especially those with previous Clouds, struggled with at first was the difference in taking hits on the EVO. IME and many others, pulling hard is counter-productive. Drawing slow and steady produces much better results. With many units, the "whistle" can be used as a reference point, i.e., maximum extraction efficiency is at the point where your draw just brings on the whistle. Another factor is how the ELB is loaded; less is more in the EVO, with a quarter-to-third being optimum; the grind is best at light and fluffy, definitely not powdery.

The slight differences in bamboo diameter and the firmware's heat curve result in one unit not necessarily behaving identical to the next. It's not unusual that some experimenting is required to find an EVO's optimal setup and user technique. :science:

The directions I got from @stonemonkey55 for cold starting (right after the firmware was perfected) was to turn it to 3pm at first, then when it turns green turn it back to noon. After it turns green again, turn it back up to your desired setting and it should be sufficiently warmed up by the time it turns green the 3rd time.

I can confirm that an overloaded VXN will absolutely increase the risk of messy stuff that smells/taste bad being in the bamboo. It's not a guarantee, but it's a likely outcome.

Small Dabs, learned that from the fine people here.

IIRC (and I may not) the instruction to first dial back to noon was because of a little quirk in the sensor/firmware that occasionally happens. I've never needed to do it with either of my EVO's, but certainly can't hurt so, sure, why not. :)

My tax bills from FedEx arrived and they're a doozie. They charged both GST (5%) and QST (10%) plus $10 on the converted price. So keep that in mind if you want to order from Canada. FedEx is great since the Ground option gets it here in 2-3 days max but it would be nice if they offered the option for USPS since most packages don't seem to get billed or it's just GST.

For the VXN's I usually use about 0.02-0.03g of oil per hit. I was using closer to 0.05g or more before for torch dabbing so it's a nice improvement. I didn't buy it to save money, but at this rate I should have the cost paid off in about 4 months.

Afaik, these instructions were always about getting to sufficient thermal mass in the fastest way possible, and had nothing to do with the electronics of the evo. I do recall what you are speaking of, I believe it was more of a blinking light/reset thing but that issue/advice came later on.

You could have ordered from PlanetVape and saved yourself the fee and hassle, or even vaporizers.ca and saved the tax too with free shipping!

The carrier to avoid is UPS. I will not order from the US if the only delivery option is UPS. Their brokerage fees on my last order were $35. I would have said FedEx too but you say their brokerage fee is $10, which is the same as Canada Post. The days when deliveries arrived from USPS/Canada Post without duties and taxes are pretty much gone. Most goods from the US are duty-free but you will get charged at least GST and the $9.99 brokerage fee.

Was that from the MassDrop sale ?

when you guys hit your units after vaping the bud for a while does it always turn brown or is it sometimes greenish when vapor production disappears, sorry for this beginner question, thanks!

Bad news my EVO just combusted at 12 and after looking inside with a flashlight I can see a small crack just below the ELB. Already sent an email to VXL support, hoping the turnaround time ins't very long. Thankfully I still have my cloud+ as a backup, sure hope that thing fires up hasn't been used since I got my EVO.

If you are in low temp territory, yes the vapour will billow but the substrate will remain greenish. I tried this last night with the Cloud+....i'm always vaping above 12:00 and below 3:00 and get nice brown dark abv....to mix it up, I dialed it down to 11:00 due to seeing @VapeNStone doing that in a video with the EVO. Wow, I thought the dial wasn't working because after it stabalized and I packed a fresh elb, I was literally getting THICK vapour at low temp. I figured the ELB was done and brown but it was still pretty green! So I ramped the temp up to 3:00 and finished it off.....abv was brown. The extraction capability of the Cloud is mind boggling!

Really sorry to hear about your misfortune, and I really hope I didn't jinx you but stating earlier that the thread hasn't seen many issues with the EVO for warranty as of late. This is the biggest fear I have with the EVO....that bamboo seems to be the weak point in the design. Are they being made too thin? This wasn't an issue with the older Clouds?

Yea I never go past noon for flowers lol. Unless I want to really milk for a vid or something. I'm mostly at around 10:30am or so but it really depends on the strain. Seems sativa's work better on the low end then the indica's do? Idk
