I used yesteday my old anvil stem and Roffa is right : it is much better.
Somebody know where to order the original mouthpiece of the anvil (not the XL) in EU ? I will build a second complete stem. Need juste the heat shield and the mouthpiece.
I still have problem with sticky bowl. I notice it happen when I remove the bowl after the hit to remove the avb and put it again in the oven or when I cool down with the cooler of scruffy. Need to investigate that.
Heat retention could be better I found because there is a lot of vapor during the first seconds of the hit and after it decrease very fast.
I will not be surprised that we will have a V2 of the tornado ...

RE: Sticking bowl, have you tried backing off the bowl a fraction after screwing on? Heating/cooling can cause threaded components to tighten up.

Unscrew a little bite the bowl before using your cooler ? I will try that next time
I never had this problem with the anvil :hmm:

I think if the material is fully extracted at the end of the heat cycle, then maybe the seeming lack of heat retention is just very quick extraction. I would only be concerned if I was routinely needing to apply more heat to finish the bowl.

It doesn't seem suitable to a casual joint puff style however. I don't think it would have the same heat cycle window as one of thr balled butane vales. It seems it's for the direct to lung bong hit types. Which is what describes me 80% of the time.

Better heat retention help for a full extraction at lower temperature like the thermocore vs coppercore. My last bowls had more terp, but the avb still a little bite green.

My complaint with the Tornado is that it has shelved my Anvils. 2+ years down the drain.

Seriously though after consistently using the Tornado and then trying the anvil, it was harsh to me. Still a great signature, but missing that smoothness.

After learning that the Tornado is not an Anvil, I believe heat retention is actually longer with the Tornado. 2-3 big pulls are no problem here leaving the load complete.

AVB color…so much debate about this. Unless it’s green and you didn’t get enough heat, don’t worry about it. To be as PC as possible, color doesn’t matter.

With the anvil, I was all about RTL, pushing for a darker roast. Then I got the venty and I was pleasantly surprised by the effects I was getting from a much lighter roast. I’ve stopped pushing for RTL. With the tornado, going lighter still milks like crazy and the vapor is that much smoother without compromising on effect. It’s legit like breathing in dense air. You’ll still cough a few seconds after the exhale though, because you’re still taking in a boatload of cannabinoids, which trigger the cough reflex.

I feel RTL destroys some of the good cannabinoids and terps, and actually decreases potency. Don’t quote me though.

I’m sorry if this is a bit off-topic, but there’s a great discount on the Camouflet Inductor right now. I honestly don’t know if I wait for the forge revision or just buy that. I’m looking to use it with the Tempest, Anvil and Tornado. Any thoughts?
No reason not to buy such a versatile IH when there’s great discount and you’re not on a budget. I read it works well with all these devices. And by the time the Forge is fixed, you‘re in a very comfortable position to wait for a good price.

Inductor is plenty capable for all 3, and anything that inducts really. I think Inductor and Tempest make the perfect pair, the VI on Tempest reminds me of using airspeed and Vref speeds as a pilot; I don’t even count I just watch the glowing red sleeve as I rotate, then the VI starts to move (airspeed alive), then for my taste I use the first mark as indication to remove inductor (V1, rotate), then it will keep climbing to between mark 1-2, get one click and sometimes just barely the second.

Yes, sorry for the OT, but Inductor really is a treat for all of the metal boys/girls.

This just in.... a Tornado blew through my house.

Tldr; I'm very impressed with this device even after a couple of bowls.

So the Tornado landed last night but I was out most of the evening and only got around to unboxing it this morning. While giving it a clean with iso I noticed a fine metal shaving that I removed. Always good to check for these things left over from machining.

I followed @someTooL and @Roffa hints for heating with the Wand to great effect. I filled the (big!) bowl about 3/4 and pre-heated for a few seconds, allowing the heat to redistribute. Then I heated for about 20s. I was trying to actually avoid the click for a tastier hit but I stopped heating just as the first click sounded.

I took a pull with my dimpled j-hook and it immediately milked up with roasty tasting vapor. I remember many in here talking about this flavor and thinking they had combusted - and I fell for it too. I was worried that if I kept pulling the vapor would get more acrid and I'd combust so I just waited about 10-15s seconds, taking tiny sips. My fears were (possibly?) unfounded though because I cleared all the vapor eventually without combusting.

I knew the entire bowl wasn't cleared though, so I just started re-heating with the Wand for about 6-7 flashes at a time and I was able to get super tasty big draws. The vapor just kept going and going and it was all really flavorful. I probably re-heated about 4 times to finish the bowl. That second atomizer stage is definitely doing something because the vapor was thick and smooth. I never coughed and it never felt hot with my simple j-hook.

As @someTooL said, the key for flavor is to remove the Wand *before* the first click by counting flashes and watching for cues like wisps of vapor. I've only tried two bowls but I'm already getting better at this. The device is *very* heat sensitive so it's capable of RTL stuff easily but you can also play it like a violin with gentle heating and get amazing flavorful draws out of it.

All my practice with the IH mod to the Vaponic for use with the Wand seems to have paid off because heating the Tornado is similar. It doesn't respond well to overheating. If you don't want to heat to the click and get a RTL experience, you can play the game of "how close can I get to the click before removing the heat" and you will get big tasty hits.

Try stopping heat shy of the click. While most of my experience with the Tornado has been with the Forge, it taught me about heat transfer and lag time. I ignore the clicks with my Anvil + Forge combination.

This is not exactly true. The airflow can be adjusted by how deep you screw the bowl into the Tornado.
I've tried this but the airholes in the bowl are too close to the theads, it just let's in too much fresh air with not enough surface area to heat it. Have you had success increasing airflow with the same thickness doing that?

I must say that I haven’t been trying it fully open, I use to back it up only like a 1/3 turn from being fully closed in order not to heat-lock it. Never felt the need for more airflow honestly. Before I replied to you I sucked directly at the Tornado WPA while turning the bowl. This definitely affected the airflow, that’s why I insisted, but I didn’t try it in action. If this doesn’t work due to not enough hot surface area, which sounds plausible, I‘m wrong with my take. Pretty sure I read somewhere that the airflow is regulated at the cap, but this may be one of Vestratto‘s initial plans that have died in the making.

Some follow-up thoughts... I've been heating the Tornado freehand with the Wand while it's in my j-hook and so far haven't encountered any Wand errors. Either it's not enough data points yet or maybe the error is more likely to happen when the Wand is stable? There's some wobble holding it freehand so idk 🤷‍♂️

I haven't had the cap stick by dialing it back a quarter turn or so - no problems with sticking caps. My hat is off to Vestratto for creating such a heat-efficient device. The Wand alone can roast a large bowl to complete extraction in 20s or so when heating to click or you can remove the Wand early and make the session last longer with great taste.

I think the Tornado takes the crown for the best dynavap-style metal vape tip currently. I have a Dani, a Stunner and several Dynavaps and none of them comes close to the efficiency and power of the Tornado. Very impressed with the taste you can achieve with the right heating too. I'm looking forward to finding a great cooling stem to pair this with. Are there no options outside of the OG Anvil stem or cutting the integrated stem? I think I remember seeing a 3rd party selling an adapter recently... 🤔

Edit: Just had another bowl and it was the easiest yet. Here's my procedure.

A little warmup of about 7 flashes with Wand,
pause for 10sec then heat for about 16 flashes, preferably before the click. Big draws until vapor stops.
Reheat with 7-8 flashes - big draws until vapor stops - repeat until bowl is done.

I haven't really said much about the high but damn, it's most excellent. Very powerful and enjoyable. I am really liking this thing.

I used mine with the airflow part. Could be better locked, but it is enough. There is a groove without o ring at the beginning of the part. I would like to enalarge it to put an o ring and I will be sure it will be nicely locked.

I unscrewed a little bite the bowl before cool down with the scruffy cooler and I escape the sticky shit.
I had yesteday a nice hit with the tornado, smooth, tasty, big and long vapor production, but I was unable to reproduce it. Still need training. But it is not easy to have something reproducible, because the bowl tend to unscrew when I spin and torch (and if I screw too much, the bowl stick)
If I have not something nice an reproducible with the torch soon, I will switch to the wand.

@ScruffyWoofers is selling them (by private message)

It's great to read feedback from new users. Overall, it seems that opinions converge on power, smoothness, flavor, efficiency and a successful design in terms of thermal capacity (the balance between heating, retention and extraction needs).
