Feel like I’m winnin’ when I’m losin’ again
Loaded TA up with some SiC balls from VGoodiez yesterday…I like it. My experience (at least first night) was excellent, plenty of power to rip a bowl with slightly less torch time. Might just be the initial few heat cycles, but the cap definitely had a distinct “hot” smell. Along the same lines of hot brakes, nowhere near as acrid but a similar “hot” smell. Tasted great though!

I didn't like using the TA3 on the tempest stem, especially the wood, so much heat in that ta head and the bottom of the bowl sits flush on the stem so just felt it transferred too much heat. Hasn't actually tried the tempest with the woofers stem, just slapped it on, not to derail the thread but very impressive again, that heatsink seems to really do it's job. Also has a ceramic condenser as well
Indeed, it's too hot. Wasn't expecting that. Planning on ordering SW cooling stand for TA, so might as well add that stem...

Lol I was getting the triple stand and saw his stems on insta for the first time and instantly wanted one, lots of different options to customise it as well. Going to do some side to side comparisons with the tempest stem tonight so will let you know how they compare

The TA should have an o-ring around the 8mm part that fits in the end of the stem, that sits as near to the base of the bowl as possible, and acts to separate the metal of the bowl from the stem itself. No metal part of the TA cap and bowl should touch any part of the stem without having an o-ring in between. The one that came with my TA2 was white(ish?) in colour and can clearly be seen between the bowl and the stem.

More than anything, I'd like to know how is that stem with TA when doing native hits. Read it has removable mouthpiece that can be swapped for other 9mm condensers/intercoolers. Could slide in Tempest cooling unit?

Yes, it has that white o-ring, but it still does get too hot I feel. Got my wooden sleeve all sappy during heat cycle and titanium sleeve pretty hot to touch. Doesn't feel it was meant to be like this. Need to try with glass stem still.
Meanwhile I really dig that stem from Scruffy...

Hmmm, can't recall if it had another o ring or not, I may have removed when cleaning 1st time and never realised.

I was kind of hoping to use the tempest cooling unit but it doesn't quite fit unfortunately, just a bit too big. Can definitely swap the ceramic condenser for standard dynavap ones though. I got the single bore condenser but SW does a quad bore as well if you like a more restricted draw. Not managed to sit and do some comparisons yet, I think the Tempest stem might edge it but SW is pretty close, just hit the TA3 through it and barely coughed

Curious, I have a TA on a revolve2 with an MH wooden stem, and a Tempest with an MH wooden stem (one rosewood one ebony) and neither stem shows that issue. I waxed them both a good few times early on, and now add a bit every couple months or so. They've both done fine, no sign of any seepage or splitting and insulate nicely. I tried a glass sleeve but it got so hot so fast it was unusable, although that was with a TA, I don't think I ever tried on the Tempest. The wood gets quite warm near the bowl end toward the end of a hit, but never too hot to touch.

Can really recommend a stem from scruffy woofers for the TA3, impressive cooling, I normally use it on a jhook but this stem works a treat. Cannot believe I get to get high using this amazing gear :)
Bfg - Dani Fusion v1
Mad Heaters - Tempests
Dovetail Woodworks stem, looks SO good with the black Tempest
Scruffy Woofers custom stem
Phatpiggies TA3
Scruffy Woofers cooling/display stands
wowwww those are positively beautiful

I picked up a Dovetail Woodworks XL stem + MP that I added an XL condenser and TRWW EXL intercooler to, and it seems to handle the heat pretty well (TA4 at 650°F on the Wand until time over / yellow light off). Wooden vortex wasn't cutting it.
I have been eyeing those dovetail stems for longer than I'd like to admit. May need to grab one sooner than later. Also do you use an adapter with the wand or raw dog it?

I do take my words back of TA4 and Revolve stem getting too hot to handle. It was my heating technique that sucked. Slowly getting a hang on this... It does get hot, but manageable still, you just gotta only touch the stem where it's intended to touch it at the carb groove. It does smack really hard lol

Raw dog; I also use the Wand with the Tornado, which is too large for the Tempest adapter (which is the largest glass adapter I have). I haven't tried silicon because I'm afraid the TA would melt it, and I don't mind holding the Wand up so I can insert the head from below.

If you concave the Dani CCD a little, you can friction fit it in the TA pretty well, and works as a better adjustabowl because it’s more sturdy
Why did it take me so long to find this comment?
You are awesome for pointing this out.

I hate how quickly the mesh screens clog in my TA3 and wanted to tray a set of rigid titanium filters but couldn't find the right size that I could get shipped to WA state (tobacco accessory shipping restrictions in this state).

But I have a whole bag of CCDs for the Dani Fusion 2.0, and I have the CCD tool in my MadHeaterz Reload 2.0. Took 2 minutes to get it perfectly concave with the tool and inserted. I put mine in concave down and boy oh boy does it have great airflow and less clogging!

Your comment is the most slept-on comment in this thread.

I tried my simrell warhead steel lined wood stem, and the inner metal liner burnt my lip! Transfers heat quick - i went to glass to isolate it better

here's my ta3 on a grab bag vortex. The mvs are made to be used with a separate mp. Maybe do the vortex or take a chance with the grab bags. I also got a wpa out if the grab bags. I was using a glass wpa prior to this one, but the thing exploded mid hit so I stick with wood for the ta3.

Just my own personal preference, but if I could stretch to the extra cost, I'd get a MadHeaters Revolve2 spiral & mouthpiece and a wooden sleeve, to use as a TA stem. For the size it's got to be one of the best stems around for cooling and the wooden sleeve gives enough insulation to be comfortable to hold.
