i believe the difference is w9 is 601 thread …….

most online retailers sell 510 thread -- so u would need an adapter to use ? :)



hmmmm -- I'm having my 1st learning curve with the sr 74 ---

I been getting great vapor -- all seemed good -- then I opened up to take a peak and noticed oil in the bottom chamber right below the glass rod ?? I feel all is tightened proper ?

ill have 2 do a full wash again tmro and see if something just isn't right -- but I think all is fine --- I will admit I didn't tighten crazy -- just cause -- but its tight enough imo

oil below ? any experts ? much respect :)

^^Good advise. Do cool down hits after u are done operating the hercules SR74. For example, I take one 10 second hit with power button pressed. Keep sucking after you let go of the power button. At least for 6-8 seconds. After u are done with your session. Do a quick 20 second pull with power OFF. Might have to do it twice if your oil is real hot and viscous. You should feel the SR74 cool down as you take cooldown hits. Once your oil becomes solid again(due to cool down of the oil) it will not leak. For storage keep your hercules sr74 stored on its side with a slight incline to prevent oil running into the mouth piece. SamuraiSam made some very good observations regarding the 74x change. I noticed the same thing with the sr74x top chamber. I agree with Sam about the 74x being designed to use one coil.

Are you unaware that UP Tech's vaporizers use a 601 thread which is different from the 510 thread that e-cigarettes use? Did you read the product description of any of the products you linked to which are all designed for testing e-cigarettes? They even say Ego/510 threaded in their descriptions. You would not be able to test any UP tech cartridges on any of those dhgate testers without buying an adapter.

apologies, its been a while since ive last used my persei because of low money purposes, i only get to break out the sr71 so often due to lack of concentrates, simple things like forgetting thread sizes slip my mind lol, thanks for correcting me.

As far as cool downs go I might only need to cool it down 20-30 seconds as @Fredster951 says when using by myself and taking 2 or 3 decent sized rips or 5-10 smaller ones

However if I pass it around a group of friends and 5 people use it, the Herc gets much, much hotter. It also performs like a champ producing insane amounts of vapor with 2 coils fed with a gram of shatter for a long time in a big group. When its super hot like that I ask my friends to take a slow "cool down draw" as soon as its passed to them (which is right after a hit is taken)- so in between hits while real hot - and at the end I do those slow cool down draws for well over a minute. With these 'extra draws' I can put 5+ grams through a Herc that stays hot for 15 minutes at a time/dozens of hit sessions and have a pretty clean bottom chamber... Then set it down sideways just like Fred said.

So last night I put my Persei/Hercules SR-714 to the ultimate test. I went to see The Dave Matthews Band. In the past I would have at least 10 joints rolled with sticky errl papers. This time I took my trusty Herc and a couple of spare batteries. What a beast! This thing KILLS. I know I have posted some positive comments before, but never put it to an extended test like this. It never missed a beat. Hit after hit, chain-vaping like a fiend! I can't say enough positive adjectives about the Herc. I feel like last night I finally broke the "wild mustang" and made it bow to my will. I never even had to swap batteries. Vaping at will for six hours straight. Nobody even batted an eye while I walked around hitting the Herc.
When I checked it this morning, NOTHING in the bottom chamber. I incorporated cool-downs into every hit.
Also a couple of cool-downs before going in the pocket. This is after HEAVY use.:D
Damn... Dave got photo-bombed by Persei/Herc.

Tho the Persei doesn't come with a DUAL TOP anymore, how did you like the DUAL SET of acoustic/electric? How much product did you go through (I'm still trying to get a feel for the capacity of this thing!)

Dual set was amazing! He should do every tour like that. Unfortunately I did not weigh what I put in there. Had to be a bit more than .5g on top of a well primed coil. And it is still going strong today!

best taste u could imagine ---- I even placed a drop like .2 of tasty on some mid eerll .. .5 … and the herc 74 took the perfect taste and infused it making it all taste amazing..

in response to the coil / kiss cart --???

they are nothing alike at all ---

I know peeps say coil but there really is no coil --- there is a glass rod that gets hot / heating element ..

this is one of a kind and cannot compare to anything on the market ---- even things coming down the line ..in 14 and 2015 nothing even in the same class -- the taste n clouds are amazing and clean .

It actually makes me question if the old skool coils really produce clean vapor ---- NOTHING like the herc 74 !!!!!!

There is NO coil setup that will rival the Herc for flavor. G describes it eloquently at the beginning of the Herc manual.

I think it has a Kanthal coil, so not titanium like the Ti KISS but a more porous ceramic wick.

I can't comment on flavor as I just ordered a globe the other day. I'll see it later this week, probably...


I hoped to put the Bender through it's paces. but only able to run 2 bowls through it this weekend. The first one lasted 3 sessions, the second lasted 2. My tolerance isn't nearly what it used to be. I've been having a hard time choosing between the -71 and bender... It's been a great weekend with my new toys

When I was borrowing a Bender before I ground up the herb and I sucked a lot through.

This time I gently broke apart the buds with my fingers and loaded that in. I got a lot less plant material in my mouth. After they were browned and had been stirred a few times I emptied it and crumbled a bit more, reloaded. I almost forgot how good the flavor on this unit is. I have not come close to figuring out the best technique to using it yet.

I would be super happy to get any tips on using the Bender most effectively.

After few bowls the mouthpiece should get sticky and the material should stop flying up even with a powder consistency.

Stir between every few hits is the Best tip I can think of

@itschad it has a greater capacity than the white ceramic in holding concentrate. If you vape off the coil, you won't experience an improvement. If you vape off the wick, you'll be hella happy.

How do you go about loading your wick? Do you melt your oil and let it drip into it? or do you dry run it to warm it? i feel like the latter will lead to more residue and worse flavor/faster cart death

I hold my silicone tipped concentrate tool against the coil and pulse the trigger enough to get it all melty and soak into the wick.

Anyone have any comments on the Hercules SR74X update?? Curious to read what other fellow Hercules SR74x user have to say about the update. As for me. I really like the non thread cap. Much better for me. As far as vapor production. I was having some trouble getting good vapor and taste. I more than likely have to adjust the rod. I am getting good ohm readings. 2.2 ohm every time. I noticed the rod on the SR74x does not penetrate as much as the Sr74 Like SamuraiSam noticed earlier this SR74x chamber seems to be designed for one coil only. The rod barely protrudes past the Ti coil. When I am off work I will fiddle with the rod to see if I get back the huge clouds from my old SR74. Anyone have a any tips ?? Appreciate it guys and gals. Always curious to hear what other fellow enthusiasts have to say.

74x works for me all the time.
74 worked on and off.

Rod placement is key. Is the entire white band (between the two electrode strips) visible?
