Btw, im a minority here. But you dont need to maintenance your mighty much for it to work. I top my loads with a fine mesh screen, and its been 3 months I havent done any maintenance and dont feel any airflow restriction. Before topping my loads, I only changed the cu's screen. Now my heating chamber is crusted, the taste is a little influenced by it. But lazyness wins
Btw, do you guys think I could use steel wool to clean my cu? Can the magic eraser be strong enough? Tx for tips
I've used steel wool, very fine, like 000 or 0000, with sparing amount of alcohol, though it can make minor roughness on the oven walls and I think that condition may make it harder to clean in the future. Same with kitchen 'scrubbie" sponges (the really rough ones). Try to avoid these abrasive methods if you can.
I have also used a paper towel moistened with alcohol, but certainly not so damp that it drips. I wad the moist towel and shove it in the oven so it makes as much contact as possible. Maybe even cycle the heat shortly, like ten or fifteen seconds, then let it sit (maybe repeat). This will at least soften the thickest stuff so it can be cleaned.
One other comment, I've come to appreciate the little orange tool that comes with the unit. It really can scrape a lot out without scratching the bowl. I give creds. to the designers, for something I under-appreciated for a while!
I've mentioned alcohol a couple of times. Some folks don't like to use it because of residue. Last thing, I try to "rinse" the bowl with a dampened q-tip. Yes, WATER. but only a tiny amount on the q-tip.
My main tools are the brush & orange tool plus q-tips (& small amt of alcohol) on a regular basis. Magic Eraser does work well (I use alcohol with that, too) but I think might take a long time if things are really crusty in there!
Many years ago I was at our local old-timey hardware store looking at products that might clean some really old bathroom tile grout. "Murph", the old timer there with all the answers, discussed multiple products with me. Finally, he looked at me and said, "You're gonna have to scrub, ya know..."
Edit: Sorry, I missed the reference to cleaning the c/u with steel wool and only described cleaning the oven interior. I have some thoughts on cleaning c/u: gonna look for my previous post on that.
...and here's that one:
