Hmmm. Where to start? Historical stuff first. We did have a silicone o- ring as a spacer for a while but it was getting sticky from the heat. We replaced it with the metal spacer ring that is used now. The metal ring cools the hot plate slightly and pretty much eliminates the red hot spot that used to be obvious on the hot plate. The original design had the hot plate sitting on the wood frame instead of a metal ring. Quicker heat up but it made for scorched wood when using too large a flame.
We have tried a glass bowl @LabPong and it works great, actually better than the stainless bowl. The vaping is more even from the bowl center to the edge, probably because the glass doesn't soak up the heat like the stainless. If I had more time I would work on that but production responsibilities have to come first. And yes, I do have other ideas for glass stems but the same restriction applies. Of course if someone else would want to take on a small vape company......?

@Max Jitter I actually done some more digging afterwards in the thread and found the answers. Sry that it came to discussion, but i wanted to know if silicone o-ring is still a thing.
So from what i get the newers versions of the Lotus dont fit the OG v1 WPA and Pipe ? Is there any place in the EU that is certain to have the Latest version caps ? VDNM.com?
Woaaah that kinetic structure is dope !

Max......you made the comment a few weeks back on the old FC forum.... "We donā€™t sell that torch anymore. Itā€™s performance was disappointing."

Which torch were you saying was disappointing? The funnel shaped Jabon lighter? Or the new Honest stick one?

Killer sculpture!

I feel aged! Sounds like I need to step up and try the newest generation caps!

Honestly, I love this old unit, even if it does show the red dot!:D

We are not using the silicone o-ring anymore since it didn't stand up to the heat. You are correct about the present pipe stem and WPA not fitting the original (8-10 year old) Lotus. Everything newer than that is interchangeable.

The Jobon and Honest torches work great. We discontinued the Vector Avenger (stick like).

I love the look of the sunburst hot plate.
What is the reason that it won't last as long? Different material?

Also, does anybody have an idea how to fix little burn marks on the wood?
Thanks!

I don't know the reason, but I know it does degrade much quicker...Granted I have used it many times a day, but My sunburst plate lasted only 3 weeks, it fell apart last night.
It does look awesome, but I think I'll stick to the high temp plate from now on....
Burns can be fixed with sandpaper if not charred too badly.....Take all the metal parts off,and start with a 220 grit, and only sand lightly until the black is gone, then go up to a 600 grit then 1000 if you want it very smooth

Both hot plates are made of pure nickel. You probably noticed that the hot plate flexes as it is heated. The sunburst pattern stiffens the plate so the only flexing is at the plate center, causing it to fatigue and crack.
Using a smaller flame delays the cracking a lot.

I have each piece in a smaller cloth bag that goes in my zipper bag Lotus provides. I also have a cap I found somewhere that fits the standard length metal pipe perfectly. I remember now it is actually the lid to an old Honest torch that stopped working. Covers the bowl nicely!

First time with the Lotus and it was a bit of a learning curve. Following the instructions exactly, changed the flame to as close as 1/2" as it would go before just not lighting.

Right away like a heat shield, the heat just went right back up into my fingers. I was using the Honest torch and my thumb was hanging off to the side and getting most of the heat. Really sucked. Turning the Honest torch sideways was an issue as the fuel hose would pop above the butane line and then go empty.

Refilled my Honest torch thinking of a better alternative for this. Want to just recount what worked for me, was a huge difference from the first time trying.

I started with the flame going into the heatplate being 1/2" from the torch to the Lotus. I pulled it back and let the tip of the outer flame go into the heatplate. I also changed how I was holding the Honest torch with just my index finger hooked, with my other fingers out of the way from the heat hitting back.

The instructions say count to four. In a dark room, four counts before you start inhaling the heat plate will start to glow red. The slow draw from there you can fill the vapor coming out. The instructions say go half lungs and then stop and you can feel it growing.

Wow, that floored me. Definitely something to make part of your collection. The WPA is machined solid, the Lotus is gorgeous. Thank you Uncle @Vitolo!

@Vitolo knowā€™s a lot about vaping!
Plug for some!
BATTERY operated for many!
FLAME as well!
Most like to mix it up!
However the LOTUS taste top shelf if your CANNABIS is to your liking?

Any storage and carry solutions for this? Keep attached to mouthpiece? Just landed the standard and saucer.

Looks like a piece I'd love to go hiking with.

Walmart sells a super simple little single pocket waistpack in their running section that perfectly fits a lotus, honest lighter and small container for payload for about $8.00. I have one from about six years ago that has several thousand trail miles on it and aside from having to reinforce the stitching on the zipper and the elastic band stretching a bit it has performed very well.

What torches are you guys using for the Lotus?

I am doing most of my vaping with the Honest torch I got with the Sticky Bricks. They work until the butane level skirts around the level of the feed for the torch. I get the flame to sputter sometimes.

Pairing with a small rig, wow!!!

I brought a second handed Lotus yesterday, waiting for it so much! I'll be using this torch, I use it now with the Dynavap M. the plastic is thicker than the Honest, some old user recommend it to me - as it works even after years of using :

I have an Honest torch heading to me too

I don't have a Lotus (yet) but I would think the Aomai torch would be a good buy. You can find them on DHGate and Aliexpress for really cheap. They have a switch for butane and a flint to ignite it so they're really easy to start and keep on for butane vapes.

there's a version of the aomai but with a bigger can of gas, that'll work. but if he's gonna use the mini aomai for torching 25-30 seconds each time, it's gonna be messy hehe

been awhile and forgot how to start a new thread/post so I hope it's OK to caboose this one

naive query but humor me: if I see smoke when I use the lotus, I'm blowing it, right? I mean that's the whole point of vaping right? just vapor, not smoke? not even a little bit: none at all

we're so inured to smoking I forget that I've taken an exponential leap into safer inhalation and sometimes overheat my lotus.

but what's y'all's hit? keep it vape, right? fuk combustion?

thanx for the width

take a look in this video, around 03:00, he never let the torch flame lay on one spot, he keeps rotating it... so the plate never gets TOO hot for vaporization! ;)

Thanks for sharing that. Iā€™ve been keeping the lost flat and pointing the flame straight down. Here on the pipe he goes down at an angle and his pipe is coming at an angle. For the glass he is angling the pipe slightly.

will have to try!

@jonni mondo what do you mean if you see smoke?
