The silicone gaskets have been discontinued. I wrote to Mendocino Therapeutics to ask for one and this was the response:I was looking to refurbish my Lotus cap that was purchased back in Oct 2014.
No we don't sell the o-ring. We recommend replacing it with the stainless steel spacer that we use on all of our current caps. It is a direct replacement with no modification needed.
We don't usually sell spacers but if you go here and pay $11, that will pay for the spacer and shipping. Be sure to state in the Comment section what the payment is for.
Does anyone know if any makers do custom wood for the Lotus? It seems simple enough
Indeed I am, and please forgive my disbelief but have you ever cleaned your vapor cap? If you have, do you really think that, that is too hard to duplicate? If you had a template for the hole placement it wouldn't be that hard at all. I am no woodworker, so maybe that's why I don't believe it can't be done.If you're wondering about a custom vapor cap then I would imaging that would be quite a bit harder and unadvisable, but totally rad nonetheless if it works out.
I never thought of that! It IS a integral part of the vape, so not an accessory. Good point. Even if I had to carve the dish myself iand then they would drill it out for me that would be so cool to have a cap that actually looked like a lotus flower or something.Hey! So the Lotus is actually protected by Patent #8490627, so legally no duplicating can be done. NOW! If you were to contact Lotus Vapes and ask them if they could, they might do that for you. Otherwise, I would certainly be willing to try, as long as they have specifically given their approval to do so.
In general, I make it a practice not to duplicate other makers works for ethical reasons, which is why if anyone specifically asks me to duplicate someone else's vapes/accessories, I typically refuse and offer alternatives that do not involve using someone else's concepts/ideas. If I know that the other maker has given their consent, then that is obviously a different story.
Like, for instance, Dave from Mistvape is a friend of mine, and every once in a while we will talk about ideas. There are certain things that he has given me permission to replicate, and there are things that I wouldn't even consider replicating. The guy is a mad genius and half the stuff he makes, I couldn't replicate if I tried!
I would reach out to Lotus Vapes and ask them if they would do a custom cap for you. And, if it's something that they don't do, maybe just ask them if they would allow someone else to try. I wouldn't mind trying my hand at it if the approval was there
That's a good idea, and definitely the right way to go about it. However I think it would be expensive to do a one-off. I recently asked whether they'd consider fabricating a vapor cap from a non-flammable, more durable, insulating material and they said it wouldn't be economical as it would require re-machining and they sell so few of them. Now, making different wooden caps wouldn't be that expensive — witness the new "saucer" cap — but I would have to assume that they settled on the particular type of wood for a good reason and have probably got quite a few milled out and ready to assemble. Having taken some apart for cleaning, the tolerances are pretty tight.I would reach out to Lotus Vapes and ask them if they would do a custom cap for you.
Exactly. I really think a non-flammable cap would be a big improvement but this is still a niche market. In the meantime I'm just trying to use my torch more carefully!I don't know how many of you are long time Lotus users, but I have seen MANY caps get scorched... not sure I would invest much time or $$$ into an exotic cap.

@khelek41girl can do amazing things. I'm sure something like this wouldn't be impossible?
Neither did I but Covid lockdown had me out of my mind board. As it turned out it did need a cleaning inside. The wood is very simple. I think there are pics on the Lotus website of the cap disassembled. I actually gained a new appreciation for the lotus, It's so damn simple but really very clever.I have never completely disassembled the Lotus cap. Do you have a guide? IDK how the lower plate is embedded, so I don't risk it.
As for cleaning, not really. I put two screens in the cap (before they even came with a screen). When I do "clean" it then a brushing and a gentle knock on the table gets most, if not all, of it out.
Been using this bad boy for almost 9 years, never felt the need to completely disassemble it for cleaning.
Followup, anyone tried adapting a Gandalf like pipe yet? Something like this:If you're wondering about wood stems, I would suggest that you look at custom pipes and the makers' shop on etsy, and then contact the makers you like with some specifications. Shouldn't be too hard to get someone to make what you want in your budget range.
If anyone is looking for a cheap wood solution, I think you could get away with buying one of those cheaper mass production pipes with a fat and deep bowl and then drill it out to fit the WPA.

No worries, I’m happy to hear it’s not being discontinued. Thanks for the reply! We are out of stock in both Vaporscopes now and won't have any back in stock until late January. Sorry for the delay.
