The Lotus Vaporizer

Yeah, let's hope you didn't kill the cap, but it really sounds like what happened to mine - I'd be interested to see a picture of the inside
Yay my Lotus is back! Mendocino said that I did not over heat the cap, and it wasn't actually a technique issue. The diffuser plate inside the cap was not positioned correctly and was letting unheated air into the bowl. Go figure. Beyond happy to have it back!!

Edit: They also said that it should be easier to use now, so I'm wondering what that will be like. I didn't have problems using it until it stopped working one day, so it's pretty exciting to think that my Lotus experience could be improved/even better than before, since it's been amazing.

edit: oups, i kinda missed the fact that it is for 18mm joint

I had the same problem, I am using a honeycomb AC with Jhook, but the joint is too low to allow the cap to even sit on the WPA.

It was really hard finding them back then, I had to get a "custom order" and it was more expensive than what Oregonglassblower sells them for now: http://www.artfire.com/ext/shop/pro...e_glass_on_glass_adapter/handmade/accessories

What's the most affordable place to get a Lotus these days?

It might be the VAS talking but I want one of these things.

I ordered from EZvapes for $120 total with a coupon code. Another economical way would be to just order the vapor cap and WPA adapter from mendo directly thru the accessories section ($93), then supplement with a lighter and water piece of your own. That works if you want to use it with a water piece only.

thanks everyone,

421 looks like the WPA kit for $99 on lotus store comes with torch. I'm not really a water person so I'd go with the pipe kit

Can someone explain what the differences in the versions 1,2,3 are? I know the version three has bigger bowl

V1 is the Original version
V2 released january 2013 - slight modifications to the cap design (don't remember what) - major improvements in performance
V3 - Same as V2 (so it's really V2.1?) with a patent number on the bottom rim (though recently they changed the heat-plate design and v3 comes installed with the new plate.

The next-gen is under development, though no release date has been announced

Ah yeah, I meant to say in the accessories store, they sell all the components individually as well there.

Speaking of accessories, I have to revise my review of the herb scoop they sell. After my initial frustration of breaking one of them assembling it, I successfully assembled my second one and have been using it in my 3 piece SCS. It's my most used scoop since it's so convenient to have sitting in the grinder ready to be used.

So wouldn't the new heat-plate version be V4? Pretty major revision imo.

Naw, maybe V2.5 - but it's certainly not a major overhaul to the design - There have been some mixed reports of a possible change in performance with the new plate. Though I personally was unable to notice any difference between the two (had one session with old plate, installed new plate, tried second session with same strain/load size)

In reality, the new plate is more of a "bug fix" than an actual revision to the design and how the unit functions

I go back and forth between lotus and vapman. I like big clouds when I feel like it and I hear the lotus has the vapman beat in that regard.

Sorry for all these questions. A person can get a version 1 of the lotus for like $25 less then the version 3...is it worth it to go with the newest one?

Thanks

I wouldn't get the v1 if I were you @vaporonly … v2 has quite the improvements. I was not convinced when my bro gave me v1 to try back then but v2 sold me from the start. Better control, bigger bowl, easier to stir, less likely to overheat, no more radiation heat if you heat the plate but don't draw.

If you do like those lung busting, eye watering hits that can send you high at once think no further and get yourself a Lotus. Haven't tried the Vapman yet but a couple of my friends that tried it as well as the Lotus say that you can't really compare them. Lotus has better control over the temperature and consequently the hits, probably tastes better due to the full convection heating of the load and is certainly easier to share. Most of my friends get it from the second, third draw! Go for it!

Take the Lotus (V3)!

the vapman just can't compare in terms of vapor quality and output... it's a neat little device but it is full on conduction whereas the lotus is pure convection and therefor far superior in my eyes ;)

haven't been on this thread for a while, since then i got me a lotus stem (only had the wp adapter) and i love it, it's hard to put into words how good this thing really is. Thanks mendocino therapeutics for blessing us with the lotus! :)

good vibes

Thanks everyone (although you've ratcheted up the VAS to a whole new level)

I do the like the full lung rippers. People say it is a waste but I don't know about that. Depends on the individual's needs. A few quick rippers to me is better for my needs then working lesser hits out of different vape in more time. The later never really satisfies the craving for long....again just my opinion

Although an oldie, I've been rocking my Supreme vape almost exclusively for that very reason.

I honestly don't get the amount of control with the lotus some of ya all speak of. I find It's kinda a "Balls to the wall" I'm gonna cough no matter what experience, it does produce some huge vapor clouds quick.

I still can't get over the meth pipe feel/look of using it dry with the stem but with a water tool it holds it's own against any vape out there.

I know we all compare the lotus and vapman all the time since they both use a torch but beyond that they are really not at all comparable, in use the vapman can be every bit as quick and yet a hair more conservative with your bud. The method of use sitting back with the vapman is much less aggressive and much more mellow and enjoyable for me personally. Where using the lotus with a bubbler is basically like doing a quick bong hit or two when on the run.

I think they're both bad ass and worth owning in their own right. But to me the vapman is more like sitting back with a couple joints or a dugout, The lotus like one hit bowls out of a 3-4 foot bong.

there's enough of a different experience to warrant owning both if you can, but I would only choose or recommend the vapman mainly for dry sessions and the lotus mainly for water.

They are both pretty new to me but In the last month I've ordered 3 vms for friends that don't have internet connection and lentout/gave away one of my lotuses after sharing other vapes for a few years these two catch peoples fancy one way or another faster then most others.

sorry if this ran a little long.

:peace: ... :leaf:

Edit: my nephew can finish a VM bowl in 5-6 hits like the Lotus with similar results where as i take 20-30 it's all about how you use the torch.

I find the Lotus very relaxing to use when in a couch or in bed with the standard stem… Maybe you only use it through water? And of course you can stretch a 0,05g load for 10-20 hits if you feel like it. Needs a little practice or a j-hook where you can see the vapor and is much much easier...

Yes gradual heat up is imo the key.
heat up each time for 2 to 4 seconds and start to draw a second before you kill the flame. Continue drawing slowly. After a few of these the pipe is warm and it's easy.

I find the abv doesn't look as brown as I expect but the load shrinks to tiny amount so I guess it's done and yes it can take 10+ minutes depending on the strain.

I use the stem more often, since i have to clean and pack away my glass right now after each use(kinda sucks) a J-hook is out of the question for me right now. I would bet you you may very well change your idea of relaxing use if you use the vapman in bed vs the lotus but I'm not giving up on the lotus with the stem by any means.

I have to vape where strangers may get a quick glance at what I'm doing so the difference between a quick glance seeing someone hitting a lotus with the stem (that screams out LOOK I'M DOING METH OR CRACK) or hitting the VM that looks rather innocuous in comparison means a lot. So the Vm will always have that edge of being much more discreet in most situations I mean I can sit on clearwater beach with the VM but would most likely go to jail if trying using the lotus there.
You'll only understand all this if you use both, then you'll see one is a little cruder in use then the other while both vape well the experience is very different.
Here in use over the last month the collage Kids (20-25) prefer the lotus. With Us more experienced older group(50-70) the Vapman wins out hands down.

That's what I call a stretch of a load! Never tried this but will for sure.

At almost 37 now I still like my clouds big and dense. I really like the sensations the thick vapor gives me coming out of my nose slowly while exhaling. And people usually say I look like 25-28 so…
Some times I like to take it easy as well and stretch my load as much as I can, usually while watching some show or movie. I would love a Vapman for those times of the day. But I don't find it very discreet. Stealthier than the Lotus, yes but not by much. Lighter is always noisy so it depends on the situation. Two many clicks with the Vapman to get those sequences. A beach yes. A movie theater no for example. That's why I have ordered myself an Indica. For those stealthy occasions… Until I get a Crafty that is with it's tasty convection vapor like the Lotus… :p With the Lotus stealth means a two minute visit at the restroom and be done in no time! And I have done it so many times… :D

Dang, I can take a big hit off my Lotus and still have it be green inside for more hits. It sounds like to me that the lighter might be set at too big a flame. Also I definitely recommend experimenting with moving the lighter away once some good vapor production starts and increasing speed of pull at that time too.

I agree out of different pieces the Lotus seems harder to hit. Especially out of my GB-187, I never mastered getting a large sized hit out of it for some reason. It's easiest to hit on my micro rig where I can hold it easily in my hand and also see exactly when vapor gets produced.
