Finished reading most of this thread. Allen your work is amazing. The roasting tubes and logs look great and it sounds like the HI and tubes deliver on flavor and efficiency. I am looking forward to one day receiving a HI, mini vvps and a variety of your roasting tubes.

The wider 7/16" OD heater cover should then also fit nearly perfectly for use with Arizer Solo/Air Glass stems and GonGs with their build in glass screens. Those come with an ~11,5mm ID and should snuggly slip over the new ss HC then
I use an 11mm OD bushing to facilitate a fit there for the Arizer glass on my own heater covers now and 7/16" being just a few fractions of a millimeter wider than 11mm, should even seal more snuggly. Nice

Thanks for the tip about the Arizer stems. I ordered one to try out and it does work perfectly. I prefer to use a domed ss screen on top of the glass screen to keep debris out of the glass tube and my lungs. I also discovered that a silicone sleeve stretched around the Arizer stems allows them to fit nicely into the iHeat, Lil' Bud, Stempod, etc. Quite a versatile roasting tube as it turns out.
The resistor I am using is an Ohmite 95J20RE. It has a molded vitreous enamel coating which provides consistent size / shape and maintains its hard coating at high temperatures.
@204Markie - Glad to hear the ss foil has added performance to your HI. I did notice that I was getting a very dark roast at 12v when I tested it before sending. It now has a similar performance to the SS heater cover, but heats up much faster. Nice to have the voltage controller to fine tune the temperature.

Should have thought of that, as with a silicone sleeve (or rather two; shorter one at the bottom is from thinner tubing), the short stems also make for nice 14mm/18mm GonGs
Cover it from top to bottom sans a centimeter or so, where you put it to your lips, and you've got a neat sturdy glass roasting tube/18&14mm GonG adapter combo there, that'll probably surrive some falls

You sure about 95J there? Mouser specs say, it's a 6,7 mm diameter, which would make it actually a smaller diameter, than the 25J, which is 7 mm.

Or did you mean the 90J? That has a 8,7 mm diameter and is rated at 11w, but is also nearly double the length of the 25J. The 96J, which is also 8,7 mm, doesn't seem in production currently.

Speaking of Arizer and other vape accessories I found that the oil cans for Davinci fit perfectly in the glass roasting tubes and act as a "stem stopper" so my heater doesnt touch the herbs if I want to go hands free with water. I'm sure you could use an O ring in the roasting tube but I just dont have any.
As for Arizer I was wondering if anyone has done anything or tried to do something with the cyclone bowl? If its 18mm I could always use an adapter and I have a mini roasting tube from my BonG bamboo on glass that fits natively in a 14 mm. So I may try it out unless you guys feel like it wont work?

Here is a photo comparing the 95 to the 25. The 95 is 6mm in diameter and the 25 is 5mm in diameter. Both are below the maximum diameter. No minimum diameter is specified.
You are welcome about tip for the silicone to adapt the Solo tube to iHeat, Lil' Bud, etc. Nice job on the 18/14mm adapter tube. Amazing number of tube configurations that can be made with silicone.

This works out really nice for me own DIY 510 portable too While it accommodates 8 mm ss tips and also 10 mm Vapcaps, I was looking for a shorter glass solution there and all the while had that short Arizer stem with the sleeve already applied for use as a GonG lying around already and never realized, that I just needed to pull up the sleeve a bit to make it fit

Well Alan has done it again, I asked him for another curvy HI to match my vase-esque black ash burl HIbrid with purpleheart base, this time a standard core with more of a hyperbola shape (to be like a reverse of BABs) in tigre caspi with a Pink Ivory base and stem... The results are of course more stunning than could have ever been imagined:

My spot in the line just came up a few months before I expected it! I’m so excited, but in severe decision paralysis. Pretty sure I’m going to get a toasty top and yes I’m responding in this thread because it gets a lot more traffic. :-).
I am not sure what kind of stems to get. I think I read that there is some kind of dosing capsule now. There’s so many options my head is spinning. I know that I want some kind of highly figured wood.
The other thing is that I’m very interested in the iheat cartridge, but I can’t afford both In the same month and really don’t want to wait another year and a half. Is it possible to request both and get the shipment staggered?

So after I decided to pack a bowl in my Davinci IQ while waiting for my HI to heat up. I ended up having a quick bowl from my Vapman while I waited for my IQ to heat up, after finishing both bowls I had this idea of heating the outside of my glass roasting tube with my torch. After the herb started to turn light gold I hit it with my HI giving my bowl a combination of conduction and true convection. The result was that the fairly large bowl of herb exhausted all its possible vapor in one go. It was amazing because I usually have to stir it once or twice normally, so it really kicked my ass and I'm now trying to post on FC right after the fact.
It was a fun thing to try, I liked how the glass held onto the heat so well.

@blokenoname - Nice job on the roasting tubes. Silicone sleeves are very versatile. I have been using my glass Air/Solo stem quite a bit lately. Have also been using a Turbo Tube w/ the Vapor Lung for some cool and easy hits.

It works best to use two screen to capture the material so none falls into the center of the heater cover. The hits are larger than pure convection.

As of recent my HI will run hotter than it should, I currently have it on an outlet timer. About 30% of the time the vaporizer gets uncomfortably hot around the metal outlet on the vape, I noticed it once when I touched it by mistake while using it with my bubbler. I'm not sure what that means but it doesnt always run that hot and my voltage is set to 11.7V

You know you're a stoner when .. you've had a suitable power supply unit collecting dust you could have had repurposed for your vvps/Log since owning them but never realised/bothered trying it out. Had been running a underpowered PSU for the Log when first making my vvps and purchasing the Bamboo HI. Then I moved where I could not Vape inside so it was no bother . Situation changed , bought psu form ebay , didn't work , looked in a box, found an old ibm laptop psu , it works ! Hello higher then 11.7-12V Log!! Pretty much the highest I could go , lol it would let me higher at times but would eventually cut out being only a 5V 2A psu.. it still worked the HI through the vvps, just like the 16V ibm powerpack gets regulated to +/- 12V through the vvps .
Oh! I didn't have the D-020 rig below back when I was utilizing my Bamboo on the daily.. here it begins! Must Practice practice practice !
@Alan @Bravesst Ima need a back up Log, my glass core heater cover is pure but at risk with me , lol , counting on you boys, Let's not have it rolling down stairs like in the song shall we!

Picked these up from an FC member. I got an SS and a glass version. They are barely used. I have gotten the best results with this setup so far but sure I will learn all kinds of tips and tricks from this thread.
I have 2 of these controllers. @P.A.M. thought I should upgrade.
Excited to add these to my collection and use them. vape On!!
Update: Finding my groove with the SS. Really enjoying it. Love the fact that the parts are so interchangeable. Put a @danielj spinning mouth piece and Dynavap Ti condenser on the long SS tube for a spinning roasting tube And digging it with the 18mm J hook.

Cool beans @RogueGuy . If you look 4 posts back in this thread you will see my VVPS . Quite sure it would give you more flexibility then your knob controller . @Alan sells the ones similar/like mine and/or could indicate if difference between the two controllers , perhaps others could too.

I have been working on another project with @Bravesst for a little while now and it is time to reveal the Square Heat Island. Thanks so much to @Bravesst for working with me on this. It turned out great.
The goal was to create a more affordable and more readily available version of the Heat Island. @Bravesst is better at making square shapes than I, so he is making square shaped bodies for me (and doing a fantastic job). I am finishing the wood and installing stainless steel heater covers (including power socket and heater). There are four stainless steel heater cover options available.
The two on the left are 7/16” OD and the two on the right are 3/8” OD. The larger diameter heater covers will use the larger 95J20RE heater. The smaller heater cover will use the 25J20RE heater.
The square Heat Island shown is maple / walnut w/ the taller/larger ss heater cover. The top wood is connected to the bottom wood with the same two ss screws that hold the heater cover down, so there is no glue involved as usual. It is 1-3/4” square by 3-3/4” tall. The power socket is recessed and threaded into the side so there is no hot metal to touch when the plug is inserted. The square shape makes it more stable than a round shape so it is less likely to fall over. The shorter ss heater covers are for a 1/2” shorter sized Heat Island.
The starting price for a combination of either maple, walnut, or cherry will be $100 and includes a 4” long 3/8” all stainless steel roasting tube. Power supplies will be extra and there are several options.
2 amp, 0-12v variable voltage power supply w/ digital display - $18.
2 amp, 12v fixed voltage power supply - $15
DC extension cord w/ right angle plug end - $5
25w, 0.5v-25v voltage controller (requires fixed voltage PS and DC extension cord) - $35
12 is a good voltage, but flavor can be a bit better at lower voltages. Allowing room air to leak into the roasting tube is a good way to manually control the roast temperature.
The plan is to have square Heat Islands available to purchase w/o the need to get on the waiting list since I won’t need to spend any time making wooden bodies.
I am also planning a batch of bamboo Heat Islands now that I have some of the new larger size ss heater covers made. I may also try making a 12mm glass heater cover Heat Island using the new 95J20RE heaters. So many options are now available.
I will also be able to turn round shaped custom Heat Islands and assemble them the same way w/ the two ss screws.
Air/Solo glass stems work perfectly for the larger size ss heater covers. Hope to have some for sale soon. May have some smaller size (1-1/2”) square Heat Islands made w/ the small size ss heater covers if there is enough interest.
Exotic woods are always an option for the future or for custom units.
