Oh man, sorry to hear about that. Get well soon and good luck with your recovery, Alan!
Looks good with the Halo Misty. Hope you are enjoying it.

I have a bit of bad news. I was riding my bicycle home from the post office yesterday and was clipped by a driver from behind while traveling through a crosswalk with a walk light. The driver turned in front of me and the force of the impact threw me to the pavement. Ended up with a lacerated right ring finger and two fractures in my right pelvis. I need crutches to get around, so there won't be any shop time for a while. Guess the waiting list will just have to slip a little more. Hope I can get back to turning soon.
Get better soon my friend!!!

Ugh that's awful @Alan! Hang in there! I've had 3 friends hurt by cars as pedestrians, fortunately none with as many injuries as you though, wishing you a very speedy recovery! Hope you have plenty to keep you busy if you can't be wood working yet...

I've been back at it with my HIs, rotating between my steel and glass cores with glass stems through water. So simple and effective, super efficient and tasty, easy choice for top tier home vaping... Whatever Heat Islands are in stock should be quickly purchased and make that waitlist even longer (always worth the wait!)

I received this Timber Elite today. Loving those buttons , Sir . Thank you ! I called Mike the best in a previous post , you guys share the title, his vapes wouldn’t be as cool as they are without you !

I commute via bicycle, and I've had some close calls similar to what happened to you @Alan ...but it hasn't actually happened...yet.

I hope you have a speedy recovery, and fuck whoever is responsible for your accident.

Did the driver even stop to help, or did they just take off? They usually just take off.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Continuing to rest and recover. Making a little progress.

The driver who hit me did stop and call for help. They then held my bicycle up in front of me so that nobody else would run me over until the emergency crew arrived. There just happened to be a fire station at that very intersection, so the response time was fast. It was such a busy intersection that I can't imagine the person trying to drive off after hitting me. There were a lot of witnesses to the accident. Haven't looked at my bicycle yet to see how badly it was damaged. Hopefully it can be repaired easily.

I hope that you wondering about how to fix your bicycle means you are feeling ok.

Happy New Year @Chicken Charlie !
My recovery has gone well. No more need for crutches. Getting around normally again.
Hoping that 2020 will be a much better year than 2019. Getting hit by a car wasn't the only bad thing that happened. Learned that my father had developed stomach cancer last spring. He had a successful surgery to remove the cancerous part and was starting to do better, when the cancer spread to his liver. He passed away two days before thanksgiving. He will be greatly missed. I did a lot of driving last year and will have some more driving to do this year to take care of things.
Have had a little chance to spend some time in the shop. Finally assembled a halogen light bulb based HI. @blokenoname and I had talked about it quite a while ago. A 10 watt halogen bulb and ceramic base are housed within a 7/16" ss heater cover. Found that a single screen was letting too much light out of the end, so I punched a 5/16" diameter disc from ss foil to form a deflector. The ss foil disc is held in place with an 8mm basket screen that fits inside of the 10mm basket screen in the heater cover. Only a ring/halo of light now escapes the end of the heater cover. This means that only a ring/halo of hot air escapes the end of the heater cover too. The roast is so even that there is no need to stir.

The halogen bulb can be replaced by removing the two screws holding down the heater cover which also hold the two pieces of wood together. The bulb just plugs into a ceramic base. Changing the bulb will be even easier for the Toasty Top since the power socket threads in from the bottom.
I do have to drop the voltage to around 10 to give the same heat as a regular HI does at 12. The 10 watt halogen HI will put out closer to 12 watts w/ 12 volts applied. Heat up time at 10 volts is about the same as a regular HI at 12 volts. Will heat up a bit faster w/ 12 volts applied.
Plan to try the ss foil discs in both the 3/8" and 7/16" ss heater covers with regular heaters, but I'm positive it will provide an even roast like w/ the halogen bulb. Have also added a 3/8" ss foil disc to the screen in an iHeat and it works well for even roasting too.

Hi Alan,

Great, to see you back!
Sorry for your loss :(
Lost me own folks to lung and throat cancer already years ago. Bad times :(

HaloHI looks terrific so far
Love the idea with the small reflector disk. This looks much more neat, than the folded up and compressed 200er fine mesh pad (similar to the oil pads, you can get for other vapes), I use in its place. The pad does the same job in deflecting the airflow and providing more even heating (really no need to stir), but it's also more patchy, when it comes to deflecting the glare. Will have get my hole punchers out and the 0.1mm ss foil :D

Did some experiments on variant heater covers, since we last discussed the Halo option. This one here provides Vapcap tip compatibility now, by featuring an 8mm (~5/16") OD heater port on top the 11mm heater cover proper, the VC tip can grab on to and slip over, like with the WS. It extends the heater cover proper by only 3mm.
As I use a very thin walled steel tubing for my own heater covers here (only 0.3mm thick), I had to use 3 consecutive metric sizes of tubing sat into each other, to reduce from 11mm to 8mm OD.
With your thicker walled steel (guess, it's about 0.75mm?) and imperial measure sized tubing, you could reproduce that (maybe as an optional offer for folks, who already own a Vapcap or two), by setting a short ring of 3/8" tubing into the top end of your 7/16" cover, followed by a bit longer ring of 5/16" tubing, which then extends the 7/16" tube by a few mm, allowing VC tips to slip over (and also any of your own 3/8" roasting tubes, of course) . It should also be short enough, to still allow the Arizer stems to fit over the 7/16" cover proper (note: my own halo variant hc in the pic features actually a 'two step' approach, having also a piece of 9mm OD tubing extending the hc, to allow for my own standard 12mm/9mm OD/ID lab glass tubing to slip over, which I personally prefer to the Arizer glass ;) ).

Running at a 10v input, seems about right. Running mine here between 10.5v and 10.8v, which translates into s/thing around 8w output with the bulb usually about 5-7mm away from the debris screen.

Sorry for your loss Alan. Fuck 2019 best wishes for 2020

Halo log looks brilliant, would you share dimensions?

Thanks. The square version is 1-3/4” square by 3-3/4” tall. It could be 1/2" shorter using the shorter 7/16" ss heater cover. The ID of the 7/16" ss heater cover is about 3/8". It accepts 3/8" ss roasting tubes. I mostly use glass Airizer stems with it as they slide right over the end of the 7/16" ss heater cover.

Thanks @blokenoname Sorry to hear of your loss too. You have a very versatile heater cover. Will want to be sure the inserts fit tightly so they don't fall out when hot. I still prefer the 3/8" ss roasting tubes to the vapcap tubes since the ID is 3/8" all the way through the 3/8" ss roasting tubes which provides better air flow.
Hope you have good luck using a ss foil disc. It does provide a lot of consistency to the roast and blocks a fair amount of light from escaping.
