Nah more in the middle and at the top. Ill try to get some pics some time. They arnt deep enough that you can see day light through or anything yet.

Sounds like a heat stress crack alright, which is unusual.

It shouldn't affect function short term.

wood is natural, sometimes there are areas in wood that are weaker and splits form when heat light are constantly applied to these areas.

Contact Alan .he ll probably like to see a pic as well.

man, i have a hard time using my HI because it's just so damn nice i want to display it and keep it pristine forever, like a work of art. does anyone else ever feel like this

i think i'm just really uncomfortable with nice stuff.... like i buy a brand new macbook pro and return it and buy a couple year old cheapo laptop instead

but oh my god every time I use the HI is like nothing else in the world...

Does anyone use this without the variable power supply?
I've been on the list for a while and I was wondering if it is strictly necessary to have a vvps.
I'm thinking about getting the glass core because I will hit it dry exclusively.

DON'T
for three huge reasons

1. super tiny voltage changes make a lot of difference, like a ton, and 12v is really hot for a HI
2. your 12v supply could put out something between 11 and 14v so you really should have it regulated by a VVPS
3. mine never worked without a VVPS off of straight wall power anyway

IMO, it's too hot off the 12V and I had to struggle to balance the best extraction without combusting. With the VVPS that's no longer even an issue, and I can just enjoy.

VVPS should be a requirement for any log vape imo. Standard wall warts output something like 13.25v, even though they say 12v on them. I at times will go down to 10.8v with my HI though there's no fixed set point - which is ultimately the reason you'll be wanting a variable power supply to use with one.

Thanks for the reply. Thats kind of what I was thinking it was because the wood does get noticeably hot if its been left on for long periods of time, hotter than my underdog in comparison. Ill get an email out to Alan soon, I guess in the meantime maybe I should butter it more often?

I would like to second what the other guys in here have said about using a VVPS with the HI. I think it is absolutely critical because in my case it was just way to hot with the wall wart. I typically run mine down between 11.1-11.4 and its as thick of vapor as I can handle at those temps.

I can see clearly now the smoke is gone...

I found the opposite. My HI is too low at 12, only way I can get to temp is with a vvps. I asked Alan when I first got it and was having issues with a wall wart and he said I needed a vvps. I have just gotten used to using it at 13 or higher.

Before anyone chimes in, it's not me. I have been vaping for years and can safely(with no amount of pride) say that I am an expert. I think I just got a bad element. But, since it works with the vvps I never pursued it further.

It could also be how your house is wired, may have a cool socket and need the wps to jack it up a bit.

@u bwade wunner thank you very much for the info.

I think it's safe to say I know what wood I'm going with now. The choices just from Alan had me on the ropes. I also think it may be time to put some protection on the Nano, I've had it about a year and they didn't offer anything of the sort back then, But luckily my cherry nano has not a single crack.

I really love the fact the stem options on this one keep rolling in, At first when I found out the H.i stems don't auto stop like the Nano I worried, But i started to use the Nano that way and found it to work better, So I now look at this as an upside to the H.i.

@JJ420 while I can understand your impatience in getting this fine vape, your post regarding your purchase really isn't appropriate for this thread. Please keep comments specific to the vape.

You are also free to leave feedback regarding your experience, once the transaction is over, in the Feedback thread.

Can anyone give some suggestions for getting a new screen into the glass on my U-tube stem? I've used it with a SS bowl for a while with my MZ, but I want to use the glass bowl on my UD and need to get a screen into the glass. Have spent 30+ minutes trying to poke around a screen to get it to fit.. Looking for some input, I have the wooden dowel that came with it to install new screens, and I have another wooden dowel for installing screens that came with my MZ, I've been trying to support it from one side and poke it from the other, its all just very awkward and I'm getting no where but frustrated.

Thanks for any help!

Try forming the screen into a basket around the dowel first.

I did this prior to asking, as I'd read it before. And i appreciate the response.

I did end up getting it in well enough to pack a bowl. But it was a real balancing act for probably a total of an hour or so.. lol
