Hey guys I am looking to expand my collection and am thinking of the FF or the PAX, I only use as portable every now and then, mostly for cordless use around house so was wanting some opinions FF vs PAX from you guys in terms of quality of the vapor and usability of the unit. thanks!

Never tried a PAX..for portables i have PnP, supreme vape version 2, and The Hammer. Since i bought the FF i rarely use my other portables...I hope that helps you. Will probably be selling them soon. The FF is not a portable vape it is a personal vape....You have to hit one to understand that statement!!!!

Thats what I wanted to hear, the PAX is cool for the stealth/cool pop out mouth piece but the convection action and styling of the FF is winning me over the more I read about it, plus how you directly control the heat that appeals to me.

EDIT: Ordered the Black FF, on its way overnight. Hope to test this weekend!

My advice would be to go see a man about a horse, fully charge it and enjoy...we will understand if you do not post immediately. We know you will be enjoying your time

I have both Firefly & Pax. This is all subjective, and just my opinion.

I would say they are very different devices. As was said above, I also don't consider the FF a true portable, I see the FF as a battery operated unit. The Pax I feel is truly for portable use. This is mainly because of ease of use/loading/reloading.

I am definitely liking the FF, but it will never be a useful portable for me. It is a great addition to my home units though. The small bowl and need for stirring after each hit (others' experience may vary, but I find constant stirring essential) combined with the awkwardness of reloading would make it a nightmare on the go for me.

The Pax on the other hand is just what I need in a portable. I can stuff enough in the Pax oven for multiple successful sessions, but with the FF I need 2 to 3 bowls to feel effects. It is still using less material than the Pax, but a lot more effort involved in getting there. I am not saying this is a bad thing. I tend to grab the FF over the Pax if I am just hanging around the house at night and don't mind the more involved routine.

The FF is also nice because you can hit it only as much as you want. When using the Pax I tend to do multiple rips at once because it takes a while to heat up, whereas I hit the FF exactly when I want to hit it only. Also the Pax will stink up a room to give you those few hits, the Firefly won't (at least not nearly as much).

In short, I like both but for different reasons and uses. The Firefly is a strange beast. It will not be filling the spot in my lineup that I originally expected, but it has definitely found a place. I bought it expecting to use it outdoors and on the go, but now it has become my home unit when I want mobility & quick heat up times that my desktops don't deliver.

It's tough to compare the FF & Pax because even though they are both portable in terms of not being plug in, they really do serve different purposes to me.

If I had to choose only one it would be the Pax, but that is because I really use portables a lot. Not because I think the Pax is 'better', just because it fits my needs more. Sounds like that wouldn't be the case for you.

Luckily I didn't have to choose, because having both is quite nice.

I own both and they are the only 2 units I use. They serve very similar purposes for me but I like owning both because I get different experiences with each. I really like the instant aspects of the FF so I usually begin with this and end the session with a loaded Pax which takes about a minute or so. Everyone is having a little different experience but I find 2 generalizations to be true for me: 1) I get better efficiency with my herbs with the FF and 2) I notice a more robust flavor profile with the Pax that I prefer.

Let me know if I can offer any other input you are curious about.

Both good units. If you really want to get medicated and don't mind putting a big dent in your stash, go for the Pax. But for a light touch up and efficient use of your herb, grab the FF. Biggest disadvantage of the Pax is the battery is not swappable. So, always make sure it's fully charged before you begin (or buy two, cough, cough).

After hitting my FF last night I had some unusually vivid dreams.

In my dream I had two vaporizers. One was my FF and the other looked similar but had a bigger bowl, bigger battery and a temperature adjuster. It was called "Dragonfly". It was beautiful with multi-colored swirl finish and had a freer flowing draw that produced big clouds with a shorter draw. Needless to say, I was really high.

I ended up going with FF w/extra battery for now (I will prob get pax in the future or after an update) because I enjoy what I heard about herb efficiency and when I do use as a portable its only me and one or two people tops so the longer routine and stirring needed aren't much of an issue.
The click mouthpiece and small profile of the PAX seem just too cool so I will prob buy one of those too but the convection heat and cool design of the FF are what won it over for me this time

I have the Pax and Firefly, they constantly argue with each other, have an incredibly hard time keeping their cool and constantly need some type of care. Also found these same features with my wife. Love them all I do!
They all have their place and time, couldn't live without them.

FF just arrived! First trial was a success, but there is def more technique involved with this Vape, which leads to much more flexibility with the quality/moisture levels of herb used.
Very pleased with the purchase so far!
Thanks for all the input guys

I'm apparently a bit stubborn and slow but I tried a different strain with lil nugs (not finely ground) popped those into the FF skeptically and BAM! I was rewarded with smooth big ass vapes that put me to sleep! Rose from the dead a few hours later, revisited the FF for another ground breaking, lung tingling, head buzzing, brain soothing good time!

Man when you get this thing down the payoff is truly fantastic!

Glad to hear it's finally working for you Volt! :)

Does anyone know about auto-shutoff feature on this thing? I keep forgetting to turn it off, (it works too well), and when I remember an hour later, the green light is off.

Does it continue to drain the battery if you keep it in the "On/Standby" position?

Nice. Yes, find your rhythm with the FF, and nirvana is just around the corner. As I said pages ago, it's a bit like guitar...minutes to start, a lifetime to master. (OK not a lifetime, but you get the idea.)

I'm sure it drains the battery, but probably very slowly. The only thing getting power is the tiny green light. I think the auto-shutoff kicks in around ten minutes. Nice feature.

Hi everyone, I just want to say that I love my FF! Also I have a tip for anyone that wants to use a finer grind and less herb in the bowl without eating it. Simply take one of the supplied screens and form a dome. Once you put a small amount of herb in the bowl, place the domed screen over the herb and use a toothpick to slightly press the edges of the screen downward. This will lock the screen in place. Picture your herb self contained and flying around in this little dome you've created as the hot air passes through it. I'm getting awesome results! Also I just hold the button for about 2-3 seconds, then pull for 8 seconds with the button still pressed, then let go of the button and pull for another 8 seconds. Also, ebay is selling the car charger for $39.95

@ vaporipped I like how you think! I have also been messing around with decreasing the chamber size with great luck. I went with narrowing the chamber as opposed to shortening it though.
I feel it roasts a much(!) more even load, it gets to the point a lot quicker, and load size is more better for my tastes.
I've also been using an extra screen or 2 on the bottom which seems to help the bottom hot spot and allows me to fill it up with bubble with no worries of leakage in the heater. In fact, before work yesterday, I loaded it up with around .1 of sand like bubble, and added about .07 EO on top.
It was a very very pleasing, about 20 really healthy rips, with the first 13-15 being full out fog rips. It lasted till I got home and then some, it was nice to not have to reload at work.
While I really love this vape, out of the box, it's really(!) nice but suffers some first gen design issues. I really feel this could be king of the portables (for now) with a couple adjustments or additional accessories.
Accessories. .. where do I start. Well I got 2 batteries and an external charger yesterday, and I gotta say its mighty disappointing that the external charger has to use the power adapter that comes with your FF. This means you can still only charge 1 battery at a time, only you can use your FF in the meantime. I really thought there would be two prongs on the back.
I feel it's mighty "Cupertino" of them the way they are selling the accessories, and I don't like it!
I also wish the FF took some 14500's or something that's not proprietary.
Other than that (and the draw), this portable suits me much better than any of my previous portables, which surprised the shit out of me because my minivape is nearly a (not so)mini cloud...

Please take this in the context I'm a modder, and my FF is far from stock.(add ons, no physical altercation to the FF)
Will share my mods soon, when I have more free time(life is crazy right now)
Happy Vaping folks!
@Shiggity the "shiggity flip" was an awesome story, and the name of the technique will never be mistaken by me or my friends.

Is that Firefly car charger legit? I hadn't heard anything about one and it's not available on the official site or Vape World.

Would be nice. Although, my car's battery is so little that any time I used/charged my old DV, the car wouldn't start again without a jump.

I was also disappointed with the fact the external charger still needed the same power adapter. I ended up picking up an extra adapter since $15 doesn't seem so bad (and I needed to add an extra $10 to get free shipping from Vape World anyway!). Will probably find other use for it at some point. Nice to have an adapter for home and an adapter to keep in the travel bag. I do rarely find the need to charge two batts at once, though.

I'm glad to see the external charger price was lowered to $30. A little lower would be nice, but at least it's not ridiculously overpriced anymore. But a replacement lid for $35? And I'd prefer to be able to buy the screens separately. The "cleaning kit" is bullshit. Tough love.

Besides these gripes, I am loving the FF more each day. Far and away, the best portable I have used.

EDIT: I have also become convinced that the FF can indeed be used as a home unit as well. What little time I have to vape at home, I've been using the FF more and more. Kinda nice to have something of this high of quality that I can carry from room to room with no fuss when I'm home.

As a portable, I'm still finding it to work great if I know I'll have access to my car, if I'll be carrying around my backpack, or if I know where I'm going. But to take it with you for the whole day when you don't know what you're doing or where you're going? You'd need a lot of pockets and a belt for batts and tools and containers, or to carry a little messenger bag with you or something.

It's really worth it though because it's so fast and there is so little smell involved. If that's important to you, I find the extra effort to carry around the FF to be a more-than-acceptable trade-off.

Yeah man, it was a good show to drop the external charger from total gouging rates. I am happy about that and its much more reasonable. Just wish the external plugged in the wall. Oh well, can't win them all. What would have fixed this issue wiuld have been going with a 2.1amp micro usb on the FF for a charger, but I'm unsure if usb is enough to charge 7.2v. So many options with usb...

edit: BTW, their C.S. has been awesome so far, my first (faulty seal) unit is going back in on Monday now that I have some extra batteries.

So no one has any overheating or combustion episodes using a second, top screen? Might be time for me to try it again...I haven't had the guts to experiment since my first, faulty, overheating unit was exchanged....

the only time I've had combustion since I figured out my airflow issues has been an overly packed load. I like how it keeps my window cleaner with mainly just reclaim on it, and not a bunch of plant material sticking to the reclaim. I bet a guy could dome a screen slightly larger than the window, place it in the window dome down, and actually get some rather clean reclaim that could be harvested every couple days.
Hmm, got some more tinkering to do.

edit: I got side tracked...
Clean reclaim may be a bonus, but the real magic is keeping the material down closer to the heater and not fluffing up to where their is open air channels around it. In essence, it should utilize the heat better and there for get a good bump in efficiency in most areas.

Yeah I've never really believed using a top screen caused my serious combustion issues...seemed to be faulty heater control. I've just been a bit wary of trying it on my second FF....but I'm gonna give it a shot and see what happens.

Ummm...so this caused almost instant combustion. I suppose this might have been my fault but it seems that the top screen def adds temperature...

Sigh. That was similar to my combustion issues with FF 1. My first bowl went fine. Bowl 2 I tried the top screen. Fine for a hit or two, then combustion, WILD, out of control, BAM instantaneous combustion. Took out the screen. Kept having combustion issues without the screen, but very randomly. Four fine hits, then BAM combust. And again, bad combustion. My wife was two rooms away from me yelling "I smell burning!"

Sarah at FF didn't think the screen caused it. I couldn't figure out how the screen could raise the temp even when it wasn't being used anymore. (Someone here speculated that the first use of the screen somehow caused the heat sensor to lose its proper calibration, and once out of whack, the FF wouldn't work right.)

I have no idea. But I think I'll stick with my "don't use the second screen" approach.

Thanks for the heads up Volteric.

It might be possible to learn the curve but I'm feeling like the FF has a bit of a curve I'm just starting to master so I think I'll hold off on the screen on top method.

I will say that I loved that it kept material down, the window cleaner and seemed to make the draw more steady.
