@Stu

I must say that I find your coughing surprising. I have a sensitive throat / lungs myself and I have only coughed at the times when I took WAY too big of a hit.

I definitely agree that you can taste the SS. I don't find it to be a deterrent, but it definitely doesn't taste as good as the Ascent or Solo.

The coughing issue is surprising to me as well. I will continue to play around and see if I can figure out how to hit the FF without cracking a rib. I find the taste of the vapor to be very good, but that SS taste is detectable.

Interesting. I find it super smooth. Yesterday I was playing with the MFLB for the first time in ages. Got huge hits from it, but very harsh. The contrast with the big FF hits, which sometimes make me cough but never leave me with a harsh feeling, was quite pronounced.

Not really sure why you are having issues with harshness. Sounds like you've been using it long enough to be high on the curve. (I do agree with the "current heat state" observation..a cold FF requires more heat button action, and as it warms up, pulling big hits becomes faster and easier. Till the material starts to get spent, that is.)

The odd thing is that I don't really find the vapor to be overly harsh at all. But I get a reaction in my chest a few seconds after the hit. Go figure.

The LB is by far the most cough-inducing vaporizer that I own. I still love it, but hardly use it anymore after it (literally) sent me to the chiropractor.

Honestly, no. It sounds like this might be why I only get 6 toked whereas others get way more. It's cuz I'm tossing my abv prematurely!? :bang:

This might be a good time to work on your technique. Trying to coax a few more hits out of the FF needs a lot more finesse than getting those first few hits.

But this is a fun kind of practice.

The FF has chrome plated steel not stainless steel coating. They are similar but not the same.

Chromium is a naturally occurring element found in rocks, animals, plants, soil, and in volcanic dust and gases. Chromium is present in the environment in several different forms. The most common forms are chromium(0), trivalent [or chromium(III)], and hexavalent [or chromium(VI)]. Chromium(III) occurs naturally in the environment and is an essential nutrient required by the human body to promote the action of insulin in body tissues so that sugar, protein, and fat can be used by the body. Chromium(VI) and chromium(0) are generally produced by industrial processes. No known taste or odor is associated with chromium compounds. The metal chromium, which is the chromium(0) form, is a steel-gray solid with a high melting point. It is used mainly for making steel and other alloys. The naturally occurring mineral chromite in the chromium(III) form is used as brick lining for high-temperature industrial furnaces, for making metals and alloys (mixtures of metals), and chemical compounds. Chromium compounds, mostly in chromium(III) and chromium(VI) forms, produced by the chemical industry are used for chrome plating, the manufacture of dyes and pigments, leather tanning, and wood preserving. Smaller amounts are used in drilling muds, rust and corrosion inhibitors, textiles, and toner for copying machines.

I'm trying to figure out why some folks are tasting this plating. When done properly there is no smell or taste. My FF did smell when new from the heating chamber and still smells a bit to this day after cleaning. Maybe this is the taste of 400°. But the FF's plating should not taste or smell, ask their customer service.

Clearly something else than the coating... the unit is all metal afterall and the air path is not sealed, hence the press-the-lid technique to better seal it and achieve thicker hits.

This is interesting. But when tasting my FF after tasting the Ascent, it's like the difference between drinking tea from my SS travel mug or my glass mug at home... the travel mug tastes fine, but a little metallic... the glass mug tastes like... pure tea.

The largest spoon in this collection, when full, fits the FF bowl perfectly.

I hear ya. Although the LB hasn't tweaked any of my four disc herniations, I really only use it when out of the house, because it's stealthy, and "drop-on-the-ground" cheap. The FF kicks its proverbial ass in terms of vapor quality and production.

I totally and completely agree. As much as I love my LB it's lack of consistency left a lot to be desired for me compared to the FF.

I agree, the final couple of hits are hard to get to on the FF, and even trying really hard, I get a very warm FF but, not quite, the final two hits. I usually finish it off in the V Tower.

Back to Volteric's ABV pic: looks to me like what I'd consider 55-65% cooked. I'll try to do a pic when I get over my laziness, but my ABV, when it's *really* finished, is a fine, very dark powder, usually 1/4 or 1/5 the volume of the original load. (And that crap, I just toss, if there's anything of value in it at that point I'm not interested.)

Volteric...take your fingers, give that ABV a brisk breakdown into smaller (but not dust-like) pieces, put it back in the FF, and lean a little longer on the heat button. You'll get another 6+ hits easy.

If you see green, you must reconvene!

I don't dump my ff until it's brown like tobacco

Yeah, you said it much more succinctly than I did. Love the faux Johnny Cochrane quote!

@Stu I have been noticing extra coughing with my new 2nd unit which I believe to be properly sealed. I don't believe it's the vapor as it seems smooth, but I believe it's the restriction that I'm not used to from my home vape or past portables. I believe the extra work my lungs are doing is a factor, but also, I believe it's the ratio of air to vapor is much less than other convection vapes.
I'm unsure of this, but those are my thoughts so far.
I started playing with 25u ss screen in the mouthpiece last night, more research is needed, but I think I can figure something out with out dampening the airflow much, if at all.
Besides that, I've been really enjoying it so far, it definitely ain't perfect, but it's a pretty good start for (near)instant, portable convection.

Greetings all,
1st day with this great device. . Having read over this entire thread before receiving my unit in the mail. I had a very successful inaugural session after picking up my FF. My battery came 3/4 charged and only sat on my external charger for a little over 10 mins before being fully charged and ready. I went ahead and purchased a ddx vatra case as mentioned on a previous page and would highly recommend it as well.
I went with medium hand ground flowers and packed gently below the ring. I was impressed by the quick smooth and potent breaths I was able to inhale. I started with light sips but the unit is very intuitive. I had no debris leave the chamber and the session was surprisingly not messy at all IMO. I was also surprised by how large the bowl looks on pictures and how small it really was in person. This device is extremely efficient and can really extend you sessions. I found myself wanting more but hardly needing it. It is a delight to use and exactly what I was looking for (portable, low maintenance, clean, efficient, high-quality, from a dependable and well run company who cares quality function and design)
I just wanted to commend the users on this forum for making this a joyous experience. CHEERS:horse::clap:

I have the Vatra DDK as well, are you able to get all your stuff in it? i find it a bit small and i am sending it back. going for the Matrix case. I want to be able to put my FF, extra battery, charger, grinder and meds and cleaning stuff in it. If the DDK was about 3 inches longer it would be perfect for me. IF you dont mind can you post pictures of your bag with your FF and stuff that you would pack in it.

I am able to get the FF, the extra battery/charger and ac adaptor, and several other items into the DDK. It's small and a bit tight, but it works for me.

did you remove any of the foam material?

I took out the middle, free-standing divider that has the Velcro pouch on it. And I pulled out enough foam squares, on the bottom, to create a form-fitting space for the FF itself.

Hoyo!

My DDK is in the mail but I do feel as if my intentions are not to over load it. Merely for protection. I chose the DDK because of its foam insert (for the FF) and its organization (compact features)

The Matrix did look interesting and I hope you find the perfect fit! .. When my case arrives I will post pictures if I am able to configure it in a pleasing manner.

:: Do most of you control the potency by the 3 air ports beside the bowl? Just naturally covering the side 2 then alternating to just the top vent? :science::mental::rockon:

I looked at my DDK when i got home after work. I could make it work, i guess i am being greedy....lololol. i want to carry my grinder, meds, extra meds, charger, and FF. the vatra is perfect if i just want to carry my FF/charger/cleaning supplies/ and a pouch of some pre-prepared meds...this could work just would have more meds and a grinder in my trunk...lol but that would work. I think the matrix's main compartment is cushioned so it will protect the FF. @swordfish007gold anxious to see your configuration.
