I preordered my FF2 at the end of April as the 4/20 sales left my VAS further unrelieved. My experience with this device and company thus far have evoked an array of thoughts and emotions I would like to share with my fellow vapor connoisseurs.
The very weekend that my Mighty's button broke while on vacation in San Francisco, I come home to my new (and much needed at this point) FF2 sitting at my doorstep packaged in a thin USPS envelope. My initial impression unboxing and using it was
very high. Aside from the new device smell which dissipated quickly, I was able to harness tasty pure convection clouds within a few sessions of experimenting with the amount of dank to pack and how much to draw.
With the FF2, I'm not sure if the LSD (long slow draw) really applies. To ensure visible clouds and vapor thickness one can feel even on the lowest setting, one must indeed take a long draw of at least 10 seconds, but draw resistance is quite strong. It will exercise the lungs if not already in shape! My lady was envious of the moan inducing plumes I was able to emit from it (that flavor!) because she was pulling a lot slower. Now as a general rule whenever I hand someone the FF2 for the first time I teach that one must be able to hear a consistent faint whistle for at least a 10 second draw. Now that she knows, she's loving it.
The extraction process with this device delivers superior taste compared to the handful of quality vapes I have tried, but I find it is a bit flawed in design. Even with the laser drilled holes, hot air passes through the herb unevenly leaving the back portion of the bowl unbrowned, making a stir every other toke key to an enjoyable session. This is where a stir tool is necessary as I don't find the tapping method to move the herbs adequate. One method I have been employing on the go is using one of my lady's hair pins as a stirrer as it magnetizes right onto the body!
A bigger bowl with more holes might have aided the uneven extraction and necessity to draw as consistent as one must -something I can't say I wouldn't want, though I didn't design it; which is where my initial critique of this device pretty much ends!
This however was only after having to deal with FireFly customer service when my device first started to buzz, then failed when it stopped emitting a glow or heat after about a dozen sessions.
To go back and mention my broken Mighty, as circumstances played out I ended up making an RMA request with both Storz and Bickel as well as FireFly on the same day to receive surprisingly different treatment. S&B promptly authorized my request and sent a prepaid shipping label the same day I contacted them. I shipped out and was sent a brand new unit (to my surprise) within a few business days. The team over at FireFly handled things a bit differently. Firstly, I emailed them and received a response after 5 days. I was asked a few questions which I promptly responded to, and did not receive another response for the following week. One day after work a few beers in I called FireFly and was immediately sent an RMA. I had to pay the shipping fee to send back the faulty unit. A week later I was contacted that a "replacement order was sent" to later find that my same FireFly had actually been fixed by their repair team in Seattle.
Ever since then, my FireFly 2 has continually redeemed itself as the taster's choice. I enjoy the medium low setting the most. I don't find it to be as quickly effective as my other vapes, though taking the time to get to the same point is thoroughly relaxing.
I'll definitely be reaching for this one any time I want to fully experience the aroma of a particular strain. It also makes concentrates wildly enjoyable, which I don't want to downplay as I mostly vape herb. I obtained some really nice full melt bubble recently which did me real good.
I almost failed to mention how smooth this vape is likely to how deep I am holding my hits in. Here's to more smooth sailing!
