I wasn't so sure either until I tested the temps against my Herbalizer, which is pretty accurate in temp extraction. Gotta say--the grid of temp estimates seem fairly accurate. I get what you're saying and I too am still skeptical...but for now, these ball park figures are working for me.

I have a firefly 2 and there is definitely something wrong with the mouthpiece I' get one good hit and then nothing comes out it's too hard to breathe and then I get too much air and no smoke I can't even get any smoke out and I've tried taking the mouthpiece out several times and the same thing happens so after 3 weeks of trying I'm now sending it back so we'll see what happens I really like it I just hope that it can work I think I have a lemon

I've wondered it myself. It smells delicious and honey "trail" is exactly what remains....guys around here (and the interwebs) call it (honey oil) "reclaim." Do some forum searching, googling and some patience for someone here with some 1st hand experience reaping the golden benefits of the FF2. I'd love to know more, too, and have found some interesting stuff. For me, I'm worried about scratching the bottom and/or top glass surface if I were to use a razor blade. I know some people collect their reclaim in (water) pipes with Hemp Fiber. I'm a total rookie to vaping and am constantly learning new ways to achieve more extraction from our medicine. I'm gonna attempt to make a tincture with all this ABV I have stored!

Anyways, let's make sure to keep this FF2 related--I hate coming to a forum days later, only to read about ANOTHER vape or whatever.

This is an extremely overlooked positive of the FF2, it is extremely easy to clean but it is also extremely easy to reclaim off of.

You can very easily just use a toothpick to scrape up the reclaim on the lid and body of the device while it's warm.

Just scrape straight up one side of the lid then follow the curve being careful not to puncture the seal, then scrape down the other side of the lid with the toothpick and you'll have a nice dab.

The reclaim is probably the purest I've seen from any device, my reclaim literally starts out clear before more collects and it changes into the honey color.

From my experience the reclaim that's left is definitely enough to get you in the clouds. If you're using concentrates you can just scrape the reclaim right on to the pad and you have another dab.
It's as close to 100% efficiency as I've seen on any vape.


If you collect a lot of that reclaim you could use it in edibles, I believe it should already be decarboxylated as well so it probably could be eaten raw, I would still suggest attempting to bind the THC to a delicious fat like butter, oil, or milk etc.

I fear I may be too late, but..

I consider the ff2 a major improvement over the ff1 in all elements but aesthetics (which people can probably argue) and "perceived build quality" (the ff2 is probably a more reliable unit, but it feels a little cheesy after the reassuring heft of the ff1).

I'm a big fan of having the different settings and power levels available to me, and let me tell you how much I don't miss cleaning FF1 screens or that goddamn insta-filthy porthole window on the lid.

If you get a chance to demo an ff2 before making the call, i recommend it. I think you'll like it.

But after checking the Google App store it seems pretty definite that I won't be able to use the app at all. Sounds like no firmware update, and no power tuning.

So, with that as a caveat -- imagining I could only use the FF2 with its out-of-the settings -- would you still stick by your recommendation?

thanks stickstones, it was a tough call, but now no one seems to know where the reported stash of old FF1s is, so I had to make a quick decision based on new choices (since they were not able to repair the motherboard on my old FF1): either upgrade to FF2 for $100 or receive store credit at Vape World for something else.

As much as I've enjoyed the FF, it's going in a direction that's not useful to me, technology-wise (plus I don't actually need a portable). So, I've opted for a new Plenty, with 3-year warranty, for $30. I know, I'm a traitor. But since I'd already used about two years of my five-year FF warranty, it seems like a very fair solution -- and Vape World was happy enough about it too. It was just sticking in my craw to have to pay $100 for something I didn't particularly want or need -- while actually shortening my warranty.

I see you've made your choice, so this reply is for archival purposes only.

I would not purchase a new FF2 at retail if I could not use the app. That's giving away too much functionality for that kind of luxury pricing.

At a $100 upgrade fee and with an ff1 warranty, I would take the upgrade and feel pretty good about it.

Agreed. One of the most exciting things about the ff2 to me right now is how much better it just got with this firmware upgrade.

That was my feeling. (Yes, I would have had to switch to the FF2 warranty.) The Vape World rep agreed with those who think the app access is pretty necessary, even if just for firmware updates. Maybe someday I'll return to another version of FF. I sure will miss the flavor of those first couple hits!

Jay, thank you so much. To be honest, I've never taken a dab, but I have hit some oil in an older vape pen once. I've never dealt with ABV either as I recently quit smoking and made the healthy switch. (God) Bless this site and all the info. Literally life-changing. Kudos to this forum.

As I haven't ever used oil/reclaim/concentrate in the FF2, I'm hoping you can just confirm what I think is needed....sorry for my inexperience.

If I take a toothpick, or blade, or whatever, and collect this here honey oil, I can technically swipe it across (or is it liquid-y enough to drip....?) one of the concentrate pads, take her to desired temp (I'm assuming 500F to start) and puff away. Right?

Is there an optimal time for reclaiming--do you do this process immediately after (as in, you want to swipe the reclaim up when it is at its warmest state?) or do you let it solidify just enough? I, too, have noticed that it's clear in color towards the beginning of a session and then goldens after awhile.

Lastly, can you get enough reclaim for a dab from vaping just a session or two of flowers??

...you can use the reclaim...whenever ..now instantly...or later...how you ..."get it up"...well anyway you can...there are tools...some work better than others...but...it doesn't matter...get what you can...put it on a pad...boom...you get reclaim from concentrates too...I've never been able to cleanly ..."get it all up"...but I don't give a shit...fortunately ...I do NOT need to squeeze every little bit...cheers.

I've found plastic guitar picks to be perfect for gathering reclaim. And the one area I think the FF2 does shine is with that reclaim on the concentrate pad.

Finally got my Firefly 2 doing what I want. I was super happy with how it handled concentrates but flower was sometimes hit or miss. I'm not a fan of dense packs on the FF2 because the added restrictiveness requires you to draw so slowly you feel like your holding your breath (if you draw too fast) and I still needed to stir. No matter what density, consistency, or draw speed I tried I got 1 or 2 very flavorful wispy draws and then more vapor but less flavor especially after stirring because the flavor is then abv dominant for the rest of the session. You also have to be conscious of your technique which is a pain in the ass but I still get pretty wrecked I just don't enjoy the process. After playing around with the liquid pad on top of a loose pack and getting good results I tried a loose pack with a ceramic screen and boom perfection! My FF2 is set to High 104% and the 1st draw is for 30 sec. Any type of grind seems to work well even the dust at the bottom of your container. Keep in mind its a little more restrictive with dust. Pour in your herb to just below the rim, no tamping, and place the ceramic screen on top and your good to go! Draw resistance is much lower and similar to using concentrates. Draw technique can be applied more loosely and still get good results...and the results are a big cloud on the first draw and no stirring!!! It also helps keep plant material out of your reclaim because you don't have to finger stir and material can't get sucked out of the bowl. I assume it will work well with a dense pack too but I hate the draw resistance so I don't care to find out. Someone else can test that.

It was actually coming from the device itself. I seem to have gotten one of the few early units with that chemical smell/taste problem. It took some time and perseverance but FF eventually replaced it with a brand new one for me. The new unit just had the "normal" new unit smell (from the lid I think) which went away pretty quickly.

I am a happy camper again....especially after the update!

@kcmochris reclaiming is just collecting the vapor which has collected and condensed into oil for your own uses. I'd recommend waiting until there is enough build up to scrape off, then after your next vape session just collect the reclaim oil with a toothpick. Usually you want the device to be warm so the oil is runnier but sometimes if it's too hot it can be useful to let it cool a bit and let the oil get sticker so you can scrape it up easier. You can put the reclaim directly onto a concentrate pad and vape it or use it however else you want to.

Haven't dabbed either, but I like to collect warm goo-dness and apply to side of the bowl and rip with the next hit. Concentrate setting seems too high for decarbed (reclaim), to each their own. My unit is persistently set at the default (app/android dysfunction) but adds tasty vittles nonetheless.

Nice move ! Like the ceramic idea over pads or screens. Can't see the goods through the window, but many of us vape blindly anyhow. How's the taste with VB's ceramic?

Mines had the same horrific funk/taste out of the box. Keeping the lid off between sessions worked, but it had me concerned in the beginning. Much too strong to be healthy. Massive fumes. In hindsight, should have sent for a replacement, but desperation had me clutched.

Sigh, I've been too spoiled by my Mighty and am forced to sell the beautiful FF2. I've gotten so lazy that I find myself no longer giving the Firefly the love it deserves. Still a little confused on why Firefly has still said nothing to me about the external charger I ordered months ago... Customer service needs to be improved a bit on that end. Let's see how a grasshopper suits me now

@Pears hey, I'm thinking of getting the firefly 2 as an upgrade to my MFLB. However, before I knew of this device, I was 100% getting the mighty. Do you think the mighty still reigns supreme?

I like the look of the firefly 2, instant convection sounds interesting. Using it with bluetooth and all the rest sounds like an interesting idea. It also just looks awesome IMO, better than the mighty in the hand.

But I use my extreme Q daily and enjoy the power of a desktop. I also like being able to fuck about with temperatures. Decisions...
