I think joints should be reversed on that to be usable with EQ. Unless you want to put in on the heater, which would just boil the water and prevent EQ from making any vapor.

Why blow? Lift the cyclone, yes, but inhale the vapor, that clears it too, but into you :) I think breath isn't that clean anyway to blow it into whip.

My post about this above was poorly worded. Actually, really piss poorly. :ko::myday:

I don't lift the cyclone to clear, I lift the elbow. I think that maybe another difference between the method I use and what Bulldozer describes is that I don't pull real hard or sharp in the first place - I use a long slow steady pull. Consequently I don't get a heavy build-up in the elbow. After clearing the second hit and exhaling, with elbow still lifted and held just above the Cyclone, I give a couple quick blows into the whip to push build-up back into the bowl. Then using the glass stick I both stir the Cyclone and remove if necessary any build-up in the Cyclone.

Obviously this doesn't provide the same level of concentration as hitting an elbow-pack hard. Takes me 4-6 hits to do .2-.25g in the Cyclone while a big hitter will do that in an elbow-pack with 2 hits.

i forgot to mention the other day... another thing i have been doing lately is warm water vape bonging... only recently tried it w/ vapor and i'm really liking it... i had never thought to try it w/ vapor until it was +talked in randomly in some thread for a couple posts... any one else like using warm water... seems like sauna vapors ha.. nice and conditioned

EDIT: FrogBoy138 i would for sure stay away from that, looks like it would act like a straw n just suck up the water.. i used to have something very similar to that(reversed joints) and it would suck water through every time(edit: if u use it on the cyclone)... returned it and was told its not supposed to bubble, its a dry ash catcher that has water sitting at the bottom, like the hurricane... i have bought 2 types of ash catchers that sucked water through every time... learned my lesson, stay away from the smaller ash catchers.. i used to assume they wouldn't make/sell shit that didn't work right, but they do.. a lot..

IIRC Pappy started a thread about this, or more likely it was included in a broader health-related discussion. I'm pretty sure his doc cautioned against using warm water. Something about opening up the bronchi and making one more vulnerable to infection (???). I know it's popular with some folks, but Pappy's input convinced me not do it: When you're :myday: like we are, gotta take extra care. :whip:

ya good point, i figured about that. its common for me to get chest infections a couple times a year from allergies + smoking so i keep my eye on those types of things, but so far i haven't gotten chest/sinus infections since i started vaping.. i am not noticing any -signs so far... also it's not every session. but a couple times a day i'd say, lately. i imagine if i don't over do it ill be fine w/ my situation.

Yeah I thought it might be a no go but it tricked me out and I had to ask. Thanks

I made the mistake of blowing into the whip without removing the cyclone or elbow joint. Not only did I waste whatever vapor may have been sitting in the whip, I noticed a shit ton flowing out from underneath the EQ. Needless to say I discovered the 'elbow lift - inhale - slowly exhale/blow to clear elbow - replace' method works best.

Also, don't ever not put the elbow bowl in like I did yesterday. Wasn't thinking, took a big rip from my bong...and clogged the elbow joint. That was a bitch to clean.

Hey guys, Just got my Q today, I've read through a lot of this thread but considering its over 200 pages its hard to really find what I'm looking for.

But basically what I'm asking if some one can give me a quick summary of "do's/ dont's" "how to's" and some proper settings.

Ex. I've heard the stock whip is mediocre and there's some better silicone ones to order, where?
Proper settings, temperature, best set up?

Basically what have you guys found that works best for you. Just in a short summary.

I do plan on going over everything it comes with. But user help is usually a little honest than what a manual says.

Please and thank you! I appreciate it.

EDIT: Its the new EQ 4.0 if that helps.

I lightly pack the dome screen while inside the elbow heat up for about 10 min's at 450F. After that I take a very small hit to see if I see any vapors if not another small hit. After I see vapors I add a bad and turn fan speed 3. But now after reading here on FC I'm not using the bag anymore. I'm sure 450F is way hotter then most would heat to but I'm a smoker and I'm not vapeing for my health. It's easy to use the EQ when it's new because the screens are clean. I've had the same dome screen for over a year now so I really have to be careful about packing the dome to tight. Enjoy it's a blast!

Thanks! Question about the fan speed, do bags fill up more dense with the 1st speed compare to the 3rd speed? I would feel that the faster air is blowing the less it will heat up? Do you get a thick dense bag from a slow blow? And slightly thinner from faster speed? I understand faster speed will fill up faster, but I'm not concerned about time as much as I am about vapor.

Also I'm assuming I should season the heater? How should I go about that? Just heat up to max temp for a few min?

Yeah just crank it up to burn off any nasty packing crap 20 mins or so. About the fan speed if your only trying to pack a very little then use speed 1 but if it's packed right then I always use speed 3 why because the bag is getting stale. I only use speed 3 and my bags look like milk to me. I can tell in about 30 sec's if my bag is not going to be good because it will look weak not milk. I kill the fan and pop the dome out move the meds around poke at the bottom of the screen. I think the main reason maybe the only reason for a weak bag is bad air flow and fan speed 1 usually means poor air flow.

Quick update people. My waterpipe from ssfg glass came yesterday, and it has been working quite nicely. After fumbling to attach the second elbow, I got really nice hits from the pipe and vape combined.

EDIT: Its the new EQ 4.0 if that helps.

I'm not sure a "quick summary" is possible - the 5000+ posts covers a whole lotta ground. I agree with the advice frequently offered before: Take the time to read thru the entire thread. It may take you a good while, but there are numerous posts attesting to how valuable it is to do so.

Btw, "4.0" isn't an Arizer designation; it just sorta got adopted. There have been a number of iterations of the Extreme, the most recent has a black shell.

As to a few do's/don't, suggestions, etc. . . .

Fan speed: Will vary with the dryness of material, size of load, how fine the grind. IME Fan 3 is usually best if the load is at least .25g. With a small load Fan 3 will blow right through it, requiring a lot of stirring; better to throttle down to Fan 2 or even Fan 1, stirring once or twice for the first bag, several times for the second bag. You'll get good results when you see the "Cyclone effect" i.e. turbulence in the bowl that circulates the material (this is where a fine but not too fine a grind, is helpful).

Temps: The consensus is to start low and work up until you find your sweet spot(s). As the temp goes higher, more actives will be vaporized (there is a lot of info on the site re vaping effects across the temp range). Again, your material, load, and setup will be factors, so experiment. Some users increase temp thru a session. Personally I use 190C, finishing a session at 210C - both bag and whip. Big hitters often use the 210-230C range. Using a water piece will significantly influence the experience and potentially temp choices, too.

Tubing: Medical/food grade silicone 5/16" ID. Some here use this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FMWTSY Also, unless you plan to use the whip in group sessions, you might want to shorten it to ~18-20" to reduce drag.

Elbow pack: Read in the vaporpedia about this and of course there is a lot of discussion about it in the thread. But before trying it, the vets here recommend learning the Cyclone well first. Especially if you aren't a power hitter (you can do .25g in a couple hits with the elbow-pack, but there is a lot of drag).

Setup: This is entirely subjective and there are a zillion variations described in this thread. Many, maybe even most, use a glass piece to add water filtration and/or cooling. Glass is a whole subject unto itself. Lots of pics in this thread, and then there is a whole section on the site for glass. On a diff note, there are a number of mods discussed in the thread, if you're into tinkering.

Also be sure to read up about ABV. Besides indicating how effective your extraction is, there are goodies left in the ABV that you'll want to not waste. And then there is reclaim, too.

For cleaning the glass pieces, most use 91% ISO. For the tubing, some clean, some reclaim, some just replace.

That's all that comes to mind for now.

Enjoy your Q! :)

I ordered this in 5': https://www.vaporstore.com/proddetail.php?prod=Tubing-M and it works great. Fits 100% and all that. Way better than stock.

If I'm doing bags, which I've ended up using a lot over the last month or so, I elbow pack. Finely ground (but not powdery, it'll clog the screen), and I don't fill the screen all the way. I then use the bed of my thumb to kind of secure it without compacting it too much -- you want to make sure the air can move through the herb pretty evenly. I'll then start at 190 (giving the vape about 10 minutes to warm up) and will do one bag (which ends up being nice and milky usually). Then I'll pump it up to 210 and do another bag. These aren't bad, but not nearly as milky. If I'm feeling like conserving herb, I'll take it up 230 for a final bag. Don't forget to stir between each bag, and I set my fan for 3 for inflating.

If I'm doing the whip, I've historically used the elbow bowl...but after trying the cyclone again, I may stick to that with whips. That way I don't have to change the herb out as often -- you just lift the elbow bowl and stir it a bit. Got about 45 minutes of decent pulls with the same cyclone load the other day. Same thing with temps and the whip -- I start at 190 and then increase the temp to about 210 after I stop seeing vapor at 190. If I'm feeling frugal I'll take a few pulls at 230.

I used to use the fan on speed 1 for whip pulls, but I don't think it's actually necessary -- the best way I've found is just take long, slow, steady pulls for about 20 seconds (similar to using a mflb).

Don't forget to save your ABV -- I made some cannaoil by cooking about 20g with coconut oil and the brownies that ended up in turned out pretty decent.

That's all I can think of for now. Enjoy your Extreme Q!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned warming the thing up, or if it has been mentioned I missed it.

Many of us heat up the cyclone bowl at 240°C for 10-15 minutes before dropping to the desired temperature (160°C in my case) and hitting it.

Also wait at least few minutes after going back down from high preheating temps. I could get big cherry two minutes after going down from 260 to 200. When it says 200 it can be a lot more or less, depending where it was before.

Thanks guys! A lot of useful information.

I unboxed last night, got everything set up and I love the Extreme Q!

I've used plenty of other vaporizers but I love the options this gives me and its also under $200, awesome.

And yes I have already started saving up my ABV, haven't made anything before but I'm sure ill give it a whirl.

Question, do I need to let it heat up longer than when it reaches temp? Confusing, but like if you set it to 190, it'll count temp all the way up til it reaches 190, but when it stops counting up does that's mean it's fully heated and ready to go? Or should I wait like 10 min? Cause it only takes about 30 sec to count up to the desired temp...

EDIT: thanks Paka, I think thats what I was looking for

I don't buy into the 10-15 minute warm up times. Turn the machine on your desired temperature. Turn on fan 3. Wait 5 minutes max, and then you're ready to go.

If you don't want to turn on the fan, I would wait 10 minutes or so at your temperature and you'll be ready to go within a couple of draws. It's hot air warming the tube that makes it hot fast.

I don't know if they're still around but a bunch of people will jump all over you for saying that. At least, they did when I said it. I agree with you 100%, but it's easier to go with the flow (forgive pun).

It's the only way I've ever used my EQ.

Turn it on, set the temperature and insert the elbow into the cyclone. Pack the elbow screen. 2-4 minutes wait until vapor.

i like to use the fan speed up the heat-up too... if i'm really in a hurry i just turn it on to 220c w/ the fan for a few mins... by then its usually ready to smash out a full elbow in a few hits... i prefer vaping from lower temps and ending up around 215c, just not through the elbow really or when i'm in a hurry... i treat the elbow like taking bong snaps usually

today is kind of a bummer, i broke my bong and new down stem just a little earlier...

I prefer waiting until the cyclone is at least hot to the touch (even if I'm elbow packing). I don't know if it effects the sesh in any way other than placebo -- and if I'm in a hurry, I won't wait or will use the fan to speed it up -- but it makes me feel better about myself ;)
