Just fyi, if you try a 18mm F/F, double-check the adapter height and shape. I bought a nice one from ALT (for experimenting with my Cloud) and discovered that the Q's heater joint is located too far below the bezel for the adapter to make a seal. (The adapter has a middle glass ring that stops it at the bezel).
As far as raising the screen, the easiest way I saw that done was with the "paper clip trick". Personally I just shape the screen concave, which raises the herb a bit (although not as much) and makes for a tight fit so no material gets down around it into the unit. If packed right the "cyclone effect" seems to work somewhat OK for air turbulence, but a couple of stirs are still required.
If you decide to drill, by all means share your process and results.
