Wow, conversation has left without me! hahaha One of the issues of being on the Left Coast (West Coast....) Different time zones and me sleeping late on Sundays!
Yeah did all the proper burn offs, etc. It is still offgassing after many hours of use. Buddy has an EQ that is well seasoned, and he could detect it as well (
@lazylathe) so i'm thinking this is "normal". I definitely don't smell or taste it when vaping, only when it's idle and I sniff it at the top. Makes sense really, there is a pcb in there and some high temps....it's just a matter of how "safe" is it to inhale that smell?
There is an inside and outside airpath. When you use the unit, the seal of the ground glass is feeding you air from the inside. When you sniff the top of the unit, you're sniffing both, and probably most from the outside airpath, as it's larger and less resistance in relation to the heater core space to outer glass heater cover.
Test: via a silicone whip (not PVC from arizer, as some say it has a smell all its own), heat up to normal use temp, turn fan on level 1, get end of whip as far away from unit as possible, then smell the air that comes out of the whip...
2nd part of test: (Careful not to burn yourself!) Take whip tube from hot/warm end after first test and smell it to see if silicone tube lends its own smell to the testing.
Sound wierd to her about someone referring to the eq as a blast from the past when it's all so new to me.
Also I'm surprised your surprised with the eq after using a herbalizer, thought that was the best of the best out there.
Just when you think your being healthier, turns out your breathing copper suphate and nickel chloride. Think that's what's used in pcb manufacture don't know if any residue remains.
I have a herbalizer as well. Different session characteristics. I used mine stock, but preferred by EQ for any sessions that allowed me time to preheat the Arizer. For sometimes needed quick sessions, when I didn't have any time to preheat, turned to the Herbie.
I started putting a plug on end of whip when I wasn't using it. But on 2 occasions I left plug on when warming up machine to use. Only for about 10 mins and I noticed the elbow wasn't heating up. Could this have damaged the machine and caus things to overheat inside and caus future smells maybe.? Or is there somewhere for air to escape if path becomes restricted.?
Just left it on fan 1 for 15 mins at 220 with no glass. I'm pretty sure I can't smell anything. First couple seconds I can smell heat but not chemical heat. Maybe all I can smell is slightly crisped nasel hair. I think mine is fine.
I wonder if any mod can be done to the internals of the eq to further protect air path from contaminants. Either by way of pcb heatshield (ceramic maybe or something inert), or by moving pcb further away? Maybe moving it from inside the tower all together. Time to get the screw drivers out I think. Been wanting to pull apart since I got it. Got an excuse now.
LOL @ crispy nose hairs!!!! That was great!!!!
The Airzer towers have built in protection in regards to overheating. I covered this when first contacting them about the safety of my mod.
Also saw this in action when someone put the equivalent of an adapter without a center piece on the unit. (Imagine two ground glass connector ends soldered directly together, no middle...) The unit gave an error code on the lcd, then shut off. The unit returned to normal after cooling and when using regular f/f adapter.
Regarding internals and modding the airpath, I believe that was discussed sometime between August 2013 and March 2014 in this thread, either when someone stated they wanted to install a dust filter in the bottom of the unit to filter the incoming air or when they broke the heater cover... I don't recall.
Another example of something that would caus the same issue. If it is an issue. Is there a failsafe in the arizer design that allows for the safe escape for hot air. Somebody must know this.
OOps, I described the failsafe in response to one of the above quotes.
Thanks for the quick reply! I'm looking for flavor during the day, and a heavy hitter before bedtime. I've been keeping it at 190c, which i estimate to actually be around 160c.
lol wait...upgrade as in buy a new one?! how can one tell which version one has anyways lol
Anytime!
From what you describe, you may be able to achieve via the cyclone bowl and elbow packing, (for now
).
* for Flavor: vape loading herbs in the cyclone bowl. don't overload and preheat your glass! enjoy sessions from 170c - 195c (depends on your particular taste and unit calibration).
* for Heavy Hitter: gently pack your herbs in the Arizer elbow basket screen. crank your temp up to 220c-230c, again dependent on your particular taste for effects and unit calibration).
Later on, if you desire the full mod kit:
Flavor: Use either of the tall F/F's included, 14mm or 18mm. Preheat unit and adapter. Load the adapter itself, as with cyclone bowl. Enjoy the more open airpath and flavor. (the 14mm flavor seekers use medium to no grind... the 18mm any grind)
Heavy Hitter: Use either of the short F/F's included, 14mm or 18mm. Preheat unit and adapter. Gently pack any of these three pieces, depending on what adapter you've chosen = Arizer elbow/screen or 18mm Wand screen, if using the 18mm short adapter. Or if using the 14mm adapter, very gently pack the 14mm Wand screen. Enjoy the clouds!
There are many different ways to use the Arizer towers, depending on which glass pieces you have. Each changes the vapes "signature" and performance... Experiment to find your favorites!
The Q for me personally is enough power and function!
The Q is my favorite as well!
