The CORRECT way to store your bud?

Unless you are very experienced with bud storage, I do not recommend anyone ever store in their fridge or freezer. Without proper care, you will eventually experience humidity issues and potentially mold...

How many of you have started/converted to those raw stones?
I store in vacuum-sealed mason jars in a Curidor unit. The latter is a small refrigerator specifically for cannabis. As Abele said, storing in a household fridge or freezer can cause issues in the short and long term.
There are humidity controlled wine coolers. If you don't want to buy one (they're expensive), fans can lower humidity in a wine cooler. They're pretty cheap and easy to rig up. You can also use dessicants outside of your jars, they will suck up moisture. No moisture = no mold. Really glad to see something like curidor!

Does anyone know how the humidity regulated environment effects the moisture content of cannabis itself? I recently had an opportunity to do some tests and results came back at 10% moisture which I though was very low.

That sounds like a high level to me. You are referencing tests done on you weed correct?

If you’re just talking about room humidity levels tested, 10% is pretty low for general comfort and health I’d get a decent humidifier in that case. I have a couple clocks in my house that read out relative humidity levels and I try to keep it at around 40% to 50%.

Here’s Washington states guidelines on lab mj flower testing.
(b) Water activity testing. The sample fails quality control testing for water activity if the results exceed the following limits:
(i) Water activity rate of more than 0.65 aw for useable cannabis

vapeape77, yep tests on cannabis. But I have no idea how the weed was stored previously so that might have had an effect.

Thanks for the guidelines.

top shelf, dried bud contains 6%-12% of water
wet before crop contains about 70% or even more

So after an Amazon delivery Friday it was time to try this out.

Two separate “batches” proved to be a success. 1st strain was around 8 months old (to me) from the ol’ Armageddon jar. 2nd was around 4 months old.

The oldest was fruity and squishy. The newer strain was sherb breathe and I swear it was better then the first time sampled. Pungent!

Thank you OP and all!

someTooL, can you share the Amazon link? The original one says the item is unavailable.

Been using this method for 6 months now, game changer
I thought we were talking long-term storage, I was going to wait 12 months before opening these to see if any different...just over 7 months so far,

I could only get 1x Boost so I only put it in a quart jar, the bigger normal jar has 2x Boveda...both were also vacuum sealed but no O2 absorb packs in the little jar as I did not want to 'taint' the Boost sample compared to my normal set-up.

LOVE to see it! Thank you for taking the plunge and testing this out. :)

PSA: Give your new RAW Hydrostone a good sniff before you use it!

I ordered some via Amazon to see what the fuss was about, and they smell like laundry detergent (probably due to being stored at a fulfillment center near high-odor products; lots of stuff I get from Amazon seems to smell similar for whatever reason).

I'm going to try leaching the odor out soaking them in water and baking soda, but if I can't, they're not getting near my ganja.

I just tried the raw stones and had no notable odors.

FWIW, I do not like these for general storage or for vaping.
I do find them to work well in combination with Boveda packs, if one needs to reintroduce humidity before pressing.

I found they initially add a bit too much humidity after a 5min soak, but they settled right into 62% after a 4-5 days. Perfect for pressing.

I agree with the RAW stones being too moist. I put one in with 2 to 3 g‘s of dry Bubba Kush along with a 62% Boveda and ended up with mold. Now I constantly watch any jar with a RAW stone in it and remove them as soon as the weed is moist.

Well, they still stink (to the point where the water they're soaking in smells like detergent, even after refreshing) so they're going to be used to plug some gardening pots next spring, lol.

I probably don't even need them, since the flower I'm buying at my dispensary is quite well-cured, IMO (Curaleaf, Theraplant, CTPharma). I don't buy enough at a time to have it around for more than a few months, and keep it in a CVault w/ Boveda packs.

Why did I never think of this: Use the plug of the garden pot to humidify.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Just soaking some shattered pieces of a gardening pot as I write (sorry RAW)

I absolutely agree with not using these alone. With a boost or boveda pack, they'll serve you well; alone, they way over-hydrate.

yup... the more time I get with these, the more I'd stress giving your material about a week to stabilize with several boveda and a stone.

And I'd add I still feel these are completely unnecessary for vaping. I only use this process for pressing.
