Yeah I'm pretty tempted by Silver this time too (even more so by the hypothetical Titanium...), but I'm probably gonna have to go with basic black for stealthiness reasons I guess...

And thanks @Justpassedu for the charger link! Now I won't have to wait for Arizer's (and maybe this one is even better?) I probably don't need to do 4 at once, so this one is the same for two yes? http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00KL9DGD8?psc=1
Price is almost the same even! Maybe this would work for the two 2500mah Samsung 18650s I just bought for the xmax as well?!
I'll wait for @CentiZen's own examination and ruling whether or not the batteries themselves would work in the Air though, wouldn't want to risk voiding the warranty knowing next to nothing about batts myself...

No problem and yes that is the same charger you linked only with two slots compared to 4. It will charge any 18650 battery and many other types of batteries. I am also into flashlights and i use this charger for all my batteries. never had a problem at all. Just make sure you buy from amazon as allot of other sellers may be trying to get rid of the older version that looks identical but had a few minor issues. Never had a problem with mine and it has worked great. it can take a bit to charge 1 large 18650 battery but it charges it perfectly and i have made the mistake of purchasing no name chargers in the past and overcharging my battery. This charger will not do that. As for batteries , if we are able to use any cell that is a 18650 i highly , highly recommend the green Panasonic 18650's , i use them in many of my flashlights and they are by far the best cell's i have used to date. I have purchased other brands but the Panasonic cells always do me right , just make sure you purchase from a authorized seller as many people sell fake versions online. Looking forward to hearing more new's on the air and hopefully prices get a bit lower as i just bought a new vape and its holiday time , i really cant be spending all my $ lol.

PVHES performance is great with the Air. The draw speed is increased, but there really isn't any noticeable drop in vapor production. I imagine we may see a little less runtime with them, but hey - no such thing as a free lunch.

Also, sorry guys but a video is going to have to wait until the end of the day if I am lucky and tomorrow at the very worst. And it's going to be a pretty crappy video. So sorry in advance, I'm an engineer - not a videographer.

Seriously? While it's nice to see it's a protected cell and all that current is a problem? Solo draws about 2 Amps when heating, but at twice the voltage. Meaning Solo is producing twice the power (heat) at t he same current. To match Solo at 3.7 Volts you'd need to draw 4 Amps, not two, right????

You are correct, of course. I was looking at the datasheet for a different cell from the same manufacturer, one letter off. I guess I need to slow down a bit, I should have caught that. I've updated my original post with the real information, which is:

2250mAh, 3.3 - 4.2, 5A discharge

The cell itself does not have a protection circuit.

OK, thanks, that makes more sense. And the capacity now seems in line as well.

The not protected part bothers me some, that battery could easily end up somewhere else where that little feature could come in mighty handy. Also, protected batteries are generally bigger (both longer for the board and bigger in diameter to cover the strap). Do normal, protected, cells even fit in terms of size?

Thanks again.

It looks to me like the battery chamber has been sized exactly to the 18650 dimensions. The NCR18650B's are a few millimeters longer and it feels a little tight when screwing on the bottom. But it think you'd be able to fit a protected cell in there if you didn't try to screw the bottom all the way down; the way the electrical connection works it would still be in contact even with the cap a few millimeters down.

Perhaps one could do a reduction on the bottom plate (i.e. shave a few microns of aluminum off)? Also, the exterior of the unit is aluminum all the way around, correct?

I think that calls for some careful consideration. Many of otherwise innocent looking springs are actually safety devices. TV used them, and I think Delta 9 as well? They tend to be skinny in cord, like the photo you posted. They need room to collapse properly, running them 'coil bound' is dangerous as it defeats the safety. And too snug a fit between battery and tube can lead to problems where the battery hangs up' as it shrinks a bit on cooling and the spring can't overcome the friction causing an open at the top connection.

For now, I agree with you, the best advice is to stick with the factory battery. Hopefully suitable alternatives can be identified.

Thanks.

Is the top grill part removable ? ( it looks silverish beneath )
If so , can you post a pic of it ?
Is it there for any specific function ?

Thanks FC AA Crews. Those very first reviews encouraged me to pull the trigger!
I have placed the order on Sunday night from London, and expecting my AA to be shipped early tomorrow, which is also my birthday:clap:! I had tight 12hrs agony to make the decision over, Inhalater05S.

Quick thoughts. Used it with the longer air glass tube and the solo bent stem so far. The longer air glass tube is amazing.

I disagree with the previous airflow comments though. Airflow seems perfected even with a solo stock stem. I do not anticipate having any draw restriction complaints anymore.

Hits are great and thick. Will write more later. But this is gladly going to replace my solo.

maybe its been said but whats the battery life like, has anyone even had it long enough to know
6 cycles and going.

I find the led color signals and patterns convoluted but I will figure it out eventually?

One thing I haven't figured out is after a session if you plug it in the top one might blink white. Not mentioned in the manual at all and not sure if it means charging or something else but re-inserting the charger would fix this.

Performance is amazing! Videos later but it's holding up really well. I will enjoy having my ceramic solo to complement this but it's really wonderful.

HI all, I'm on the fence between a Davinci Ascent and the Arizer Air. Both are on sale until 11:59 tonight. I do like being able to quickly turn off and put away (my Pax) in my pocket while on the street, so my questions are
1) Does the short glass stem on the AA still get very hot to the touch?
2)How easy is it to dump and refill?
3) Do you have to wait for the stem to cool off? (Imagine putting it away right after a hit)

Any further comparisons between Dv Ascent and AA would be most welcome, thank you!

since you have been patiently waiting, i can answer some of these questions based on my experience with the SOLO, but an AIR user might have to confirm or qualify these answers...

1. well, i have definitely burned myself with a hot solo stem unsuspectingly (one hand holds it by mouthpiece area while other arm reaches over for something and hot end burns my arm). but the hot end seems to cool down fairly quickly and after about 2 burns you will be conscious of how to never do that again. i use the short glass stems that were in that picture on the SOLO thread. is that what was referred to as the "PVHES" stem, guys?

2. some people have mentioned that its so easy they can do it while driving, but i need 2 hands to dump & refill. the quicker you dump when hot, the more will fall out. if you wait until your next session to dump, you might have to brush out some debris. i basically use 1 hand to dump & "rattle" the stem against the insides of my dump jar and 1 hand to hold the dump jar steady. obviously, if you didn't collect, & just blew through your stem to clean it, you only need 1 hand (& a spot to blow the debris in)...so that would be your easiest method. to refill, you can just vacuum your goods into the bowl area and that only takes 1 hand (& 1 hand to hold your grinder or loading device steady unless you are doing it like lines on a table).

3. remember, one end is going to touch the lips on your face, so obviously the company needs to consider the temperature enough to make it usable. so there will always be at least one cool enough end to handle but the hot end might take 30 sec to a 1min to cool down enough to touch. but i would say that if you got done with a super long session (so the stem end was blazing hot), then quickly dumped, then put it in your jeans pocket or something, you wouldn't even feel any heat by your hip. just don't do a super long session and immediately squeeze the hot end in your hand or touch it to your skin - that hurts (but you will learn after a few mistakes).

a chem lab professor used to always say, "remember young grasshopper: hot glass look like cold glass"...so just be conscious and you will be fine.

i feel like you might have some heat-paranoia...im curious what vape in your past "burned" you so badly where hot materials are a going-concern?

hopefully anyone with the air can say for sure if I'm totally off or not...hope that helps for now!

can you chime in on this:

what is the best way to handle batteries?

do we use them until they are completely dead or close to it before we charge

or

should we use a bit, charge up, use a bit, charge up...keep topping it off?

i have heard people recommend both ways...some people have said its good to use every last bit of charge in your battery before doing a full charge and some people have said you NEVER want to get to the last bit of charge and you should always try to keep your battery full.

and also i have heard that these new batteries these days are sophisticated enough to handle whatever the owner chooses to do...

thanks, centizen!

Anyway I got my order in, black and a spare battery. And a nitecore charger.

What do you think of the temps @exit ? Are they accurate to what's listed on the site now?

Spent all my money on Christmas gifts, so I have to wait until Christmas time at least :( hopefully I can still score it at 200 and then I can have ed make me a blackwood Wong to make it even more stealth. Probably won't replace my vapman though!

Great vid soloman! Your pad (and you) reminds me of my buddy and his pad hahahh
