Greetings fellow FC'ers and AA owners:
Long time FC lurker here, first time poster. I felt compelled to write my first post because of the help that you all have provided for a rookie Air user like myself. I hope you can all bear with me and take a gander at my lengthy post. After coming across this great Arizer Air thread and reading nearly every page, I have learned many new things about the AA that I would otherwise be unaware of. I recently transitioned from combustion to vaporizing because of age (I just turned 30), health issues, conservation, etc. One week ago I purchased my first vaporizer (the AA), and I'm extremely satisfied with it. Based on the advice of FC'ers and your recommendations of Randy @ PIU, I bought one during his sale of $179 with an extra battery. Choosing the AA wasn't easy as there are a plethora of portable vaporizers available, but you fine folks at FC and some Youtube reviews (Vape Life Will, FC's own "Soloman") convinced me to go with the AA. From reading this thread alone, I have learned many pleasantly surprising modifications such as:
1. PVHE GonG adapters (and differences between shortys, turbos, etc)
2. 18mm and 14mm hydrotubes (name brand and knock-offs)
3. JoDa glass tubes
4. D020 bubblers
5. Dome-type screens and O-rings
6. Third Party batteries/Chargers
7. 14mm and 18mm reducers/extenders
8. Homemade mods such as stealth cover for glass tube
9. Removing the O-ring from the MP tubes
10. Third party cases (By the way I found a pretty good one, I'll post pics soon)
11. The usefullness of the pre-load caps
12. New and improved short stem from Arizer (I have to get one)
^This is just off the top of my head, but I know there's more. Granted I have spent alot of $ on accessories and mods for the Air, but it's definitely worth it to me because of my need for a portable vaporizer during my 1-2 hour long daily commutes from home to work (try sitting in L.A. traffic everyday and not going ape crazy with road rage). This device puts me in such a good mood that the traffic hardly affects me, I just rip a few bowls and listen to podcasts. The AA is an absolute dream regarding portability and vapor efficiency and volume. I am consistently surprised how much vapor and how thick the clouds this contraption produces. I enjoy using the short MP tube because of stealth and I find the mouthpiece quite comfortable. I do have a few general questions that some of you may be able to help with, and any feedback would be appreciated:
1. Since I'm new to vaporizing, what heat settings would you recommend? I usually opt for green since that seems to be a middle ground, but I'd like some advice on when to use different settings based on the volume of herb, density, and how much of it has been vaped. I have heard that you can re-vape toasted herb, is this possible with the AA and if so, what heat setting would you advise and how effective is it?
2. How does the fineness of grinded herb correlate with the vapor density that you can get? For example, do you find that you get bigger/thicker hits the more finely grinded the herb is, or does this make a difference? And yes, I do own screens so I don't mind grinding it fine. But last night I noticed something: I simply broke up the herb with my fingers, old school style, into somewhat large chunks. I didn't use a screen, but I got massive and numerous hits from one bowl.
3. How often to you stir the bowl with the poker tool while you're vaping, and does this make a big difference in getting more hits? (sometimes its a little cumbersome to remove the bowl and stir it while I'm driving).
I'm sorry for the long post and thanks to the people who took the time to read it. I will report back shortly with pics of my new third-party case and my attempts at making a stealth cover for the glass tube (special thanks to Vapormatic for the idea and info). To all the FC'ers and AA owners thanks again for this thread and keep up the good work. To all prospective AA owners and those interested in buying one: Go get one, you won't regret it. Vape on.
