Discontinued Splinter Z by RBT

Thank you Herbie. I am getting quite a few questions in email and PM coming over regarding TC and settings. While we all know the Splinter is capable of operating in TC its important to note that this is not officially supported, nor is cruise and can possibly damage your unit and void your warranty unless you know what you are doing. The dilemma I get in is trying to provide good service to people asking without advising on something I know can void the warranty. RBT has a unique structure for service and warranty. It's all on the retailer's to decide if the case meets the criteria outlined by RBT. In some cases its cut and dry what is covered and in other cases it's not so clear. And remember we are trying to maintain a positive relationship with our customers so they consider us in the future for RBT products or anything else. And on top of that not everyone is honest about how things got to be the way they are. Most times I can see right through it but even then it's a dance to articulate that without offending someone.

In the end I want everyone to be happy with their purchase. I want them to get the best available performance for the capabilities. But understand that the retailers are acting as the middle man for warranty products. Credit is given on future orders and I for one am too small to take hits everywhere on replacing products that I cannot get credit back from RBT on. Some other retailers can sustain these potential losses but again I am not there yet.

So with that I hope you all understand that I cannot answer questions related to settings/TC. You are all going to have to help each other and we are all blessed to have some very smart and helpful people as part of this community.

Totally understand and trying to do my small part by make sure these setting aren't going cause any problem or misunderstandings. The Mod files downloads have maxs temperature cutoff to help protect these devices. The lost vape mods maxs temperature is 465 and others mods are 490. This should help against accidentally damaging the coil.


Totally agree with cruise I don't think the benefit of using cruise with splinter is worth risking warranty. DNA mods don't support the feature so no worries there.
I feel there's better 510 devise suited for this type of use something with replaceable coils. My fear is someone going use cruise in wattage mode and destroy there unit. Unless you understand the risk and know what your doing with the mod settings I wouldn't mess with it.

FWIW in my research I saw that VT75C had some QC issues along with the Nano, so that may have been related to your difficulties with it... Glad to hear you found your way in wattage mode though!

I heard about those issues too, and it sounded like the problem was that the mod would overheat sometimes with a 21700 battery. I’m using an 18650 in it with an adapter and the base of it never got warm so I don’t think I was having that issue.

Tonight I started at 32 watts. Coarse grind, filled the basket to the top with minimal tamping. All of my draws were 10-15 seconds. The first hit was super flavorful, no visible vapor. Went to 33 watts for hit two, also a lot of flavor, no visible vapor. Bumped up to 36, maybe the merest hint of visible vapor, flavor is okay. Jumped to 40, lots of visible vapor, ABV flavor. Hopped down to 38.5 because 40 is a bit hot. Again, lots of visible vapor, full ABV taste. Temp is good.

I finished at this point and again the ABV was uniformly brown. I could have possibly done another hit or two to really extract the absolute last of it, but I didn’t feel the need to. I stirred once after the first two hits, then afterwards rotated the stem between each hit.

Right now wattage mode feels more comfortable for me. I get a better idea of how my draw technique affects the hit. And again the high is mellow and pleasant. I’m loving this device, wattage mode has been a revelation to me.

I have changed these values to 50watts on the Splinter and SplinterZ files.

This really shouldn't affect performance too much.

I've been using your Splinter_Z profile with the new "warm" coil material file in TC mode, and last night I adjusted to 50 Watt. If anything, I feel my experience is slightly improved, in that there's probably a little more flavor in the fist toke, but not less power noticeable at all.

I wonder how TC could do any harm at all as long as you stay within the temp, wattage and puff time limits set by RBT. I realize how they need to exclude responsibility for damages occurring from any off-the-manual usage of their product, but what could happen in TC mode and how would they identify that? (OT: while proof reading this, I realize it's the german way to approach things: am I supposed to do that? If not, what could happen? If anything happens, could I be liable? If yes, how could "they" prove it?)

As to cruising mode, I don't see the benefit of such a mode for a device that is heating up so fast.

When using higher wattage for preheat in TC mode is for under a second shouldn't hurt anything. It's only use the high wattage to keep or bring it up to temperature you set.

Since the warranty states 50 watt maxs I feel the little loss on preheat time to protect warranty was worth doing.
I honestly feel you have a higher chance damaging it using wattage mode. In wattage mode the temperature continue to climb.

At 400 degrees in TC mode it's only using 8-10watts to maintain the temperature when not drawing on it. Where in wattage mode the temperature will keeps rising as long as your pressing fire. I feel high temperature is what is most likely to causes damage. In TC mode temperature is limited in wattage it isn't.

When using TC mode it only draws the wattage needed to reach and maintain temperature. In wattage I could see temperature climbing much higher and possible cause damage coil or wood?

I already updated the Splinters profiles to 50watts. Next time I update the mod files I'm going put 50 watt maxs on Mods themselves. Then set high temperature at 445 max.

These safety feature will protect from accidentally using too high of wattage or setting temperature too high. With these safeguard in effect I don't see these file causing any issue or damage.

I am incredibly impressed at how mellow and calming the highs are from the Z. A very different experience from the more aggressive highs of a Dynavap.

Finally got my 420 purchased Splinter Z V1, @VGOODIEZ ship my Z super quick, 2days arrived my USA depot, but my courier sucks, bring my Z back to HK the day before Easter holiday and i have to wish the holiday end to get my Z which is contradiction to my initial plan to get my Z before the holiday to enjoy the 420......

@VGOODIEZ send me a stunner, the Bubinga have very nice wood grain and nice color~

And i got some super rips and even ABV with it, WOW~

One thing I am little disappointed is that i thought the Z v1 will have deeper chamber to accept more different stem but NO, the Z v1 is same depth as the V1.

Overall I am totally in love with it~ I may use Z much more frequently than other

Looks very nice.
As it stands now the only 22mm joints are on the US Custom Zs that Ryan makes, and that is only until he runs out of the current glass order. Everything else is 19mm I believe.

I personally love the one you have pictured here. The draw, the flavor, and the coolest vapor. I think it's great. That said I haven't had one last more that 3 months. The little glass piece inside cracks and then will block the hole if you draw harder than it likes. It's a major bummer.
I use the XL8R Custom stem now. It's the one with the wider spikes which I think are the normal now. It's not quite as free flowing but it cools well enough and the flavor is strong and it is durable.

Talking about cool my SplinterZ has just been removed from freezer. No I wasn't trying out some new fangled cooling method.

My stem had become stuck in the splinterZ and just wanted point out this tip if ever happens with yours.

Remove the splinter from mod and put in the freezer. It is the best method I found to remove a stuck stem. This doesn't happen very often but if it does this is a much better option than trying to force it free. A hour in the freezer and stem pops right out.

I had only had the original Splinter Z's hand made by RBT up until today i got one of his current units that is mass produced. I am blown away by the quality and finish.

I forget for a minute if my Splinter Z sits in a drawer for a few week but damn. I always say this one of the most powerful and versatile vapes available with top notch vapor quality.

Can not recommend enough.

I had my best session yet with the Z. For the last several nights I’ve been experimenting with different ratios of CBD to THC, generally in favor of CBD. Tonight I decided to test what felt more like a 1:1, although perhaps weighted to the THC. I took three hits from my Pax Era with some Wild Blueberry high THC concentrate in it. Then I packed a full basket of CBD into the Splinter and took 6 or 7 big hits off of it.

I started at 33 watts and stayed there for the first four hits, then kicked it up to 36 for the last 2-3. For now the THC is dominating the resulting high.

Using the Z this time felt much more natural. I was able to gauge and adjust my draws based on the vapor I was getting mid-draw. I got some surprisingly big clouds too. And the flavor was spectacular for the first four hits. Then degraded quickly.

I am more comfortable with the unit now, playing more fast and loose with the trigger, feathering it throughout the hit, just trying different things. In wattage mode it’s a surprisingly tactile vape since you’re controlling the power to the heater and your draw from the stem simultaneously, and if you pay attention to the vapor you can adjust your draw, the trigger, or both to get just what you want. This is easily the best vape I’ve ever used and may be the only vape I truly need.

I'm gonna have to agree with you there. This thing really is a VAS killer. I wasn't a 510 guy until I picked up the Imp and was impressed. Purchased a Crafty to replace a used one I had purchased then sold and a Splinter Z over the 420 sales. After 5 hours of Crafty use and 30 minutes of Splinter Z use, the Crafty was up on the EntExchange and sold. The Z is insane, gives me Silver Surfer type results super quick and in a great form factor. I really love my SSV and after the first Splinter Z bowl, there was no denying the similarity in potency (for me anyway). After shuffling through a dozen or two vapes over the last few years, I have found the VAS killer and one of my End Game devices.
