Well since the finish on it is glossy, if you grab it by that part to move it or anything you'll see smudges where you touched it afterward, at least if there is enough light on it. Nothing that doesn't wipe off easily with a cloth of any sort though. I happen to have a nice microfiber cloth that came in a LCD screen cleaning kit that works well for rubbing the smudges out.

Once you get your ssv set up where you plan on using it, it doesnt need to be touched so it's not a big deal really. If you just need to move it across your desk or something you can just move it by grabbin the base instead of the shiny part. If you're going to be transporting it around a lot though from location to location, i'd recommend keeping a wiping cloth in the bag if you're anywhere near as OCD about smudges as i am lol.

*edit* Wow, i think i found the sweet spot for crushingly thick awesome hits, it's around 2:00-2:30 on my dial. holy mother of... :o

at 1, it just lightly vapes the herb and skims the flavor and some THC off. At this temp it seems to be delivering everything at once, and man is it more powerful doing it this way. The amazing thing about it is, unlike my dbv, i havent had any but delicious hits so far. It's vaping my stuff just as well but none if it is getting to the point where it tastes like burnt popcorn, except maybe on the very last hit. No matter how frequently i stirred, the dbv bowls always ended up having that abv taste around halfway through the bowl, this is much better since its like only 1 out of 10 ( no chance of me remembering specific count at this point ) hits that taste kinda like abv bleh.

Bowl ideas:

I got a couple ideas today for the ssv bowls. After using my LB so much last weekend, i think i started carrying over some of the usage techniques with it to my ssv. Shaking the bowl seems to be easier and more efficient than stirring with a pick. I tried covering the bowl with my thumb and shaking it, which worked but left some fine powder on my thumb that i had to wipe off, annoying and wasteful. So i thought, what if there were caps that you could put on your wand that would snap over the bowl - ones with a bottom that herb doesnt cling to. This would let you shake the bowl between hits instead of stirring, and would also be a nice safety feature for extended breaks between hits, to help avoid spills. You could load a bowl up and cap it off and just set the whip aside for later. The parts of the cap that make contact with the warm glass would, of course, need to be made of something resistant to heat and non-toxic.

The other idea was for a skinny wand, the exact opposite of the fatty wand thats already available. The bottom part of the bowl would get narrower so that smaller loads can be more easily and evenly vaped in this narrower space. The bowl would be wide at the top like normal, so that (with the bowlcap attachment) you could invert and shake the bowl in between hits to shuffle the load. The screen would have to go in the bottom though, so the hose would need removed in order to change it, not all that big of a deal.

some rough kindergarten-lookin MS paint sketches of the ideas:

hey im kind of a noob to vaporizer but i want to get an ssv for my first, i was just wondering witch joint type is the best to get? standard glass, ground glass or spherical ground glass? sorry if this is a dumb question, i just want the one that hits the best or does it even matter witch one you get?
I'd say go with standard. The ground glass connection has some major drawbacks IMO. Mainly that you can't "tumble" the bowl as you hit it, to try to evenly vape the bowl. The opening is also bigger which some say means you get more air and less vape, and its easier for the bowls contents to maybe accidentally get blown up into the heatcover with the wider opening. Also, my experience with the GG connector of my DBV leads me to think that a GG of the downward-angled SSV won't hold very reliably, so it wont function well for the intended "hands-free" usage - if you wand true hands free get a standard wand with the metal hands-free plate.

The spherical connector i've had no experience with, so i can't say for sure. Its supposed to allow you to still move the bowl around as you hit to aim the stream of hot air at different spots, but I can't really see it being much better than the standard. Also, some ppl say that there is a risk with ground glass giving off glass powder after so long, not sure if this is true, but just another reason to go with the standard wand IMO.
Hey guys,

I personally don't think there's much difference between the normal connection & ground glass besides convenience. Yes the ground glass has a wider opening but surely this compensates the fact that you don't have to keep turning the wand round. Remember the main reason for turning the wand is because the opening is small & we want the herbs to be vaporised evenly.

Secondly I don't find it a problem rotating my ground glass wand whilst vaping. Yes sometimes it gets stuck but most times its ok....I think it got better since it wore itself in.

My mate has a normal one with hand free adaptor & I chose to go with ground glass after using his so I think it really all depends on personal preference.

Has anyone got any thoughts on what I asked before....I seem to only need to leave my SSV at the minimum temp setting on the dial to get the strong vapes going....if I turn it up then combustion occurs?

Peace ya'll

This sounds like a great idea! I haven't yet got to use my SSV, but the only thing I was worried about with it was where to put the wand inbetween hits, if you still have bud left in the bowl? A snap on/off cap would be a brilliant addition I think. If the bud was not to stick to the underside of it, would it have to be made of glass then? Not sure if this will by DIY-able though..

I let it run on max for 10 minutes the first time i used it after unpacking it. I usually just turn it up to normal vaping temp and wait ~3 minutes for everyday usage.

Man, i was using my SSV last night in a dark room other than my screen and i noticed how cool the reflection of the glowing heating element looks on the inside of my SSV, almost looked like 3D/hologram at certain angles, if you get down level with it.

I heated on high when it was new to burn off any factory yuckies (technical term lol). I preheat 5-10 minutes depending on circumstance ;)

I love that glow too Steiner...very much actually!

I have a question directed at people who use their SSV with a bong attachment.

I placed an order for a SSV w/ ground glass heater cover, 14mm bong attachment, and a 12'' EHLE bong.

I thought the ground glass would be the best bet for hands free versus the "ride the wave" attachment but im starting to second guess my decision. The SSV is on 2 week backorder so i have time to change my mind.

Does it even need to be hands free? Im curious if one hand on bong, 1 on whip, then putting it down and clearing bong is possible...or if hands free is def a must.

If so is the "ride the wave" worth it if im going to be vaping w/ water all the time?
I read that the "ride the wave" can scratch the SSV, is this true? If so i def do not want it.

Thanks for your help / thoughts guys.

Alright the tubes I ended up buying were too small. Anyway, my knob doesn't really stay on anymore, which totally fucks up the heating level mid-session. Anyone have this problem before? I don't know what kind of glue I should use to put it back into place.

I have an SSV with the standard glass connection.
I have yet to purchase the bong attachment myself. I just took the mouthpiece off the hose and placed the hose in the bong's hole after sliding the stem out. It created a pretty good seal. I had no problem drawing from the bong while holding the whip to the glass cover. When I wanted to clear the bong, I just pulled the whip off of the SSV's glass cover allowing more air flow. This seemed to provide enough air flow to clear the bong. I do, however, only fill the whip with about 1/4" of cannabis, which may allow for better air flow than filling it more.
I think I will eventually purchase the bong attachment, but I think it works fine just to clear the bong by removing the whip from the SSV's heater cover. No hands free required.

I think this is a great idea. I have never tried to shake the wand to mix up the herb; however, I often take a break on a bowl and spilled have spilled some a couple times. A cap would be great!

This is true... I see NO MENTION of it on 7th floors website. Must be VapeWorld or something.

I'm actually buying, trying & selling them off... Some fit my needs, some were gifts, some just aren't my speed & get sold/traded. I'm really hoping this SSV fills the void that I currently have open...a nice,HARD HITTING,whip hitter. The EQ delivers consistent vapors.Cant really "go big or go home" with it,but it does deliver. The HerbalAire H2.1 blows me out with every hit,but its gotta be hit slowly due to tube sizing/flow rates...Sometimes I just wanna pull a quick 2 second lung buster & sit back & relax,so the HA falls short there because of the flow rate.
The DBV that I had,I sold to a dear friend,so I opened the void myself... I ordered a black & white SSV with a Penguin poker & all Black & White accessories to match my new 14MM Sasha Hess Bubbler. I pretty much bought EVERYTHING you can buy with/for the SSV sans the Aroma top...I just didnt feel a need for it when I have the EQ aroma bowl & the VB with aroma bulb. I also got all the wand styles except for the regular ground glass wand, just seemed to DBV'ish for my liking. I DID however get the standard wand, the fatty wand & the new spherical ground glass standard joint wand & HC. They also have a nice Black & White WFCM that I might buy for $89.

Thanks Lo. I will surely do ! I already can't quit my Iolite, so can't imagine what the SSV will be :ko:
I ordered the aroma top with it, does anyone have used it and is it working well ?

Fear...you will love the ssv! I had to put it away for a little while because after I used it for a week straight I found my tolerance was higher...two PD stems no longer did it. For me, it's best used as an occassional heavy hitter, but man is it fun!

Interesting thought but i like to get a big rips. Im torn between hands free or gong heater cover, not alot of people have tried both and have an opinion of which is better :( i think ill call 7th floor and ask them what they think ;)

It was far cheaper to buy an EXTREME elbow without mini whip then a bong attachment for 18mm users (just pointing this out).

Does it even need to be hands free? Im curious if one hand on bong, 1 on whip, then putting it down and clearing bong is possible...or if hands free is def a must.

If so is the "ride the wave" worth it if im going to be vaping w/ water all the time?
I use the GoG because it came with it, I have a fatty bowl but am still waiting on the normal heater cover. I like the GoG but switched from an E so i'm used to it. It is nicer not having to hold both the bong and the vape since my bong is a 2 footer.

I read that the "ride the wave" can scratch the SSV, is this true? If so i def do not want it.
The ride the wave attachment now comes with little rubber sleeves for the sides so it doesn't scratch the SSV

Thanks for your help / thoughts guys.

Mary, Have you tried the hands free attachment? Im worried the GonG will fall out often (people complain of this) because of the angle, is this a problem? If you have tried the hands free, which do you like better? Thanks bro.

Im buying the ssv from vapeworld so they will do GonG or standard and i can purchase the hands free attachment for extra. I dont mind the extra cash if thats the best route...but im not sure it is.

------

On a side note i ordered the 14mm adapter from vapeworld which is straight, i think im going to cancel that and get the one from 7th floor that has a 90deg angle and random frit coloring :brow:

I am not aware of any one reporting it as an actual problem but it has been presumed to be by more than a few that it "could."

With that said, I believe the hands free for the SSV ground glass has been out for well over a year it may be to early to really tell via internet feed back from people.
