Since there is so many people smoking/vaping flower rosin in here this might be the right place to ask:

Any good recommendation on a vape pen for Flower rosin?
not looking for carts, just some little stick that i can take to the park and actually get a good single rip off,

a m8 sent me this picture, i think its the puffco plus? ;o it got me thinking atleast :p

Most pens suck. The best tasting of the lot IMHO are the ceramic donut coils. I have a yocan evolve + that I'd rate a 5 out of 10. Even with a new coil the taste goes fast.

But I also have a saionara from humbolt vape tech on a box mod that rocks. I'd say if my dnail sic halo was a 10 taste wise, my sai with ceramic donuts would be 8.5.

Having a mod allows you more control. In temperature mode you can set the top temp so as to not cook your concentrate while your trying to vape it. While most pens simply add more and more heat while you hit the fire button. Temperature control modulates the temps to keep you into the zone you've set.

The sai in temp mode provides tasty hit after tasty hit. Plus I can load a pea sized load of rosin and hit off it all day. Try that in another pen, and your wasting concentrate. It's not perfect, hence the 8.5. The reason is you have to start with clean coils to keeps the hits tasty. Load on dirty coils and your basically vaping reclaim. The good news is they sell 5 packs of coils, and they can be cleaned in minutes.

Size wise the sai is shorter but fatter and chunkier than a pen. Slightly smaller than a fury 2. So definitely pocketable. It looks at first glance like a ecig on a mod.

Just my opinion as always....but no, I would not run rosin through a pen as its too dirty and, in general, those little heating elements (whether ceramic plate or coils) are too delicate for the level of clean up needed for squished rosin.

Now, for live resin...sure. But pressed rosin...I'd shy away from putting that in a pen.

But, if you must, find a pen and box mod that will have a cup insert...Ti or quartz cup insert type thing...as you can wail away on cleaning the inserts in general. The Sia and a good mod will do it. But pen shaped batteries won't have the power to drive these cup type insert atomizers as they often are up in the 25-35 watts range needed to run them properly.

Cheers

Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.
I now have about .5g of this rosin, which is like hard candy, and I'm going to try leaving it on the bottom plate at 120F for a few hours and see if I can get a more workable consistency.
So I followed my plan above and some of it did budder up into a hard gritty paste. Much easier to use. The top portion which was not in direct contact with the bottom of the glass jar remained a shatter. But I got daring the next day and put it on top of my e-nano set at mid-temp for a couple hours. It got to bubbling and I gave it a good stir. When it cooled the whole son of a bitch thing turned back to pure obsidian.

$100 for once of flower
$40 for gram of Rosin

@ataxian That's what I pay too.
BTW, love my Dabpress.
Rosin is da bomb. At least when it's not rock fucking hard.

Oh I know it looks like shit....but it works great. popcorn buds get pressed paper thin. I got lucky and seen a engineer tossing parts in the machine shop metal scrap bin. I reached in and pulled out a never used BIMBA FLAT II cylinder, asked if I could keep it and was told yes. Over the years I have kept any pneumatic fittings valves that got tossed. So I used the plates from a hair straightner and the controller to heat two shear plates. The straightner goes as low as 50c and holds the temp dead on. I can't find any name on it besides RD. The total press is about the same size as a laptop. I press starting with 10 PSI and after a few secs I increase pressure to 90 PSI.

Why not just spend a little more and get a trusted, proven Dabpress?
I want to eventually get a HR1036v Dabpress but a pump for it here in Australia is well over a $1000, plus all the Dabpress units are quite bulky and I thought I could just leave this little one out on my workbench for quick squishing as needed.

Even secondhand are expensive

I'd rather use a straightener than one of those.
Ok, so you have tried one and they are no good? Can you tell me why a hair straightener is better, I am getting sick of juggling my hair straightener in my vice.

Ha ha, I actually posted this link in VaporAsylum as a possible contender but never heard any more about it:tup:
It is $90 for shipping but still, only AU$240 delivered compared to the Enerpac stuff.
I might have to have a talk to @psychonaut about a press and adapters for this pumps hose.

Thanks for the update @btka

edit @Sick Vape, now we are talking, getting close to a full pack now...gauge?

Going, going, gone...

I was after a new pump, not one that may have been used in a lead mine.

I’ve been busy this weekend on the 3 ton Dabpress.

Top jar is Jack Herer #8. 6g in, 1.5g out for 25% first press. This was 2min 15sec at 190F. Came out a really nice super citrusy flavor.

Bottom left is Jet Fuel. 3.5g in, .8g out for 22.9% first press. 3min at 195F. Nice consistency, but man some nasty aroma and flavor although true to the herb it was pressed from. Equal parts fruit and vomit. :uhoh:

Bottom right is Pineapple Chunk. 6.3g in, 1.3g out for 21% on first press. 2:45 at 195F. This was interesting looking herb - purple and black which I think resulted in the weird color here. Tastes great, though and true to its pineapple name.
