Rosin Technique....Easy DIY Solventless

Is getting a rosin press worth it, or is it better to use Alcohol and do it the old fashion way.

It is worth it if you use a lot of concentrates. I dont think anyone on this thread is going to say that doing QWISO/QWET is better than rosin, but perhaps! With rosin tech you have dabbable concentrates in minutes instead of hours or days, and one of the biggest points, no foreign substances/solvents.

So i been pressing absurd amounts of small nugs in my "noob" press, (500 kg pressure max)

Currently waiting for my 10 ton setup to get here-

I went thru around 200 grams of herbs by pressing 0.5-1 gram at a time
Something is telling me that i have a decent amount of resin locked away in these pucks?

Would it be worth it to repress with the 10 ton, or better of making edibles?

You dont really have anything to loose repressing the pucks. Fold them in half over themself and press them at a bit higher pressure than you were before, at a bit higher temps (+10-20F depending). It may not be the tastiest dabs you've had but that's to be expected. You can then do an ethanol wash on your twice pressed pucks to see what little you can extract.

Personally, I am not a fan of repressed rosin under most circumstances, because I have an affordable supply of MMJ. However, those pucks are gold when it comes time to make cannabutter.

If I was going to fiddle with solvent extraction I would probably go with ethanol just to play around with making absolutes.

I would say it's much easier and quicker to produce a quality product with rosin though.

So I have plenty of single pressed chips and a jar of coconut oil (or a lb o butter), and i even have some sunflower lecithin granules somwhere. I was thinking wrap the pucks in foil envelope and decarb at 245 for 30 min, then literally keep adding chips to the coconut oil until it is barely able to cover them in the double boiler and let that cook for a few hours with maybe a tablespoon of lecithin. Anything else i can do to make the resulting product as strong as possible? :D

That sounds good, but maybe too much decarboxylation so it could be more nighttime edibles.

You can skip the oven decarboxylation if you just boil the pucks in water/butter or coconut oil at 200F for a couple of hours, then the oil will all be extracted/decarbed/infused into the butter/coconut oil.

I would fill the jar with pucks, then cover with coconutt oil, (hemp oil is thinner but works well too) place in the oven set at 265 for 20-30 minutes. This will help draw resins out of the pucks as well as decarb.

Then strain well, and add the lecithin to the still warm oil, and stir until it disolves. The lecithin disolves easily no need to add it with pucks. It just makes the final oil more bio available.

I wouldn't skip decarbing. You'll get a more potent edible if you decarb.

But his method was decarbing in the oven, then in the double boiler. I agree, dont skip decarbing, but you have to be careful not to decard for too long.

I just made an awesome batch....

About 5 or 6 ounces of chips. Decarb in the over at 240F for 40 minutes

2 Sticks of butter

A couple bottles of water (I like bottled water. My city water sucks)

I put 2 sticks of butter in my crock pot with .5 liter of water (1 bottle).

When it melts, add the chips. Add more water as needed to cover chips.

Cook on medium as long as you can. I let this batch go about 10 hours. I am fire paranoid so I won't let it cook all night.

Strain through cheesecloth and put in a large glass bowl. Put in fridge until all the butter hardens at the top. I let it go overnight. You gotta really SQUEEZE that shit out of the mush (the chips turn to mush) otherwise you'll loose a lot. I put 2 sticks in and get about 1.5 out.

Poor off the water and heat the butter again with another .5 liter of water. Just heat long enough to blend.

Again to the fridge.

Once the water you pour off is clear.... that's it. I usually wash mine 2 or 3 times. These chips make really dirty butter.

Just getting ready to do my 3rd wash. :)

I think I'd just re-squish at like 250F and infuse that rosin into my fat of choice.

But I've always been a bit of a pus when it comes to chlorophyll in my edibles, so after trying recreational stuff with distillate it's even harder to go back cause that stuff has zero cannabis taste whatsoever. Then again I know a lot of people that like that green taste! I got haunting memories of my uncle making dark ass black cannabutter though.

My mini rig has a removable downstem - when it gets all candy coated in sweet nectar I stick it in my smallest pot on the stove with 1/4 cup of coconut oil on a low setting for 20-30 minutes and let all the condensed oil melt out of the downstem and infuse into the oil. Then fold that into brownie mix and into the oven for some slap your mama brownies. This is basically a distillate, the end product is very potent and very normal tasting/unsuspecting lol.

Seen more than a few people FORGET there was really any oil in there at all and let the munchies get to them, only to end up paralyzed in a kush coma on the couch.

I don't like that taste either. And that's part of the reason we make cannacaps instead of medibles. I use reclaim, oil from abv, and rosin left on pucks for our night time cannacaps.

I strip with iso and winterize with ethanol. It's a lot of extra work, but because of the unique effects I think it's worth it.

We use the caps at night for sleep and pain relief, and this type of oil is good for that. Not so much for vaping though, it just tastes like oil.

That is the same method I used with my last batch of pucks. I figure the ISO purged out during the 9 minute decarb @275F after winterization. I was hoping for max potency which is why I winterized for the edibles. I still think I should probably wash my cannabudder, it's st paddy's green! But I actually didnt plan to cook or eat with it, I was just going to take my measured teaspoon and scoop a spoon up to go with my AM coffee.

Not sure if anyone is interested, but I make cannacaps from rosin too. I use 2 grams rosin, one fluid ounce of coconut oil and 1/2 tsp lecithin. This makes roughly 30 caps if you measured accurately.

I melt it all together in a glass measuring cup on a coffee warmer until clear then fill size 00 gel caps with pipettes. Sometime I put the cup of oil in the oven for 20 minutes at 265 to decarb, sometimes I skip that step, not a huge difference, but a little.

2 grams per one fluid oz can be a starting point (day time for me) and folks might want to adjust either way. I believe you even get some terpene effects, if the rosin doesn't get too hot, but I think the decarbed caps are slightly stronger.

@shredder Are those cannacaps with rosin mostly THC-A? I've always wondered how much decarboxylation we are getting under the plates. That is very interesting and I like the thought about getting terpene effects.

I havn't had any tested, but I do think rosin off fresh buds is mostly in the A form. Then if you just use enough heat to melt it all together, chances are its THCA. But I'm sure it's not 100%.

I posted a couple of pages back of some rosin that was tested a few years ago. It looked like the total cannabanoids were right up there BHO wise but the THC (decarboxylated) seemed to account for about 15% of the total cannabanoids. If you are feeling the potency is a little bit better with the decarbed rosin caps makes me curious if there may be some entorage effect with THC-A + THC since the decarbed caps would have had a much higher percentage of THC.

I just finished pressing some rosin so I took a tiny, almost immeasurable amount of rosin and ran the Duquenois test on it and it's purple as fuck.. So... yes, the pressing definitely decarbs to some extent.

that's probably cure decarb though, not fromt he press itself. People have tested rosin many many times and there's never any noticeable amount decarbed. If it was a factor of the process, it would be showing up a lot more for people doing bad tech.

mc,
I tested the pot that I pressed and it showed zero THC. So, I think it might be from the press.

I'll run the tests again........

EDIT: I suppose it will also depend on the temp and time you press. I press at about 240F for 10 to 15 seconds. Maybe 20.

why are you pressing that high? I rarely press over 190F. However it's for 1.5-3 minutes depending on how much I'm pressing.
