POTV Lobo

Hi folks. I just got a few items from AliExpress for the Lobo, and as expected, they fit the Utillian 621 as well. I'll likely order a Gordito and WPA from POTV.

I got this beaded glass mouthpiece and now I'm curious and concerned. First the curious. How do beads help cool the vapor? Heat sink effect?
Now the concern; the beads might be plastic. I don't know if there's a way I can tell.

Any thought on this thing?

Heat sink effect?
Yes, they absorb the heat from the hot vapor passing over them.

They are ornamental beads for necklace/bracelets because they have holes thru them for stringing. You could submerge in water to see if they float glass won’t plastic might or torch the glass to see if they melt. I doubt they would be plastic, just cheap glass and not boro.

Thanks. I held a ligher under them until the outer glass started to turn black (it wiped off), and no melting. That good!

If they are simply cheap glass beads then I shouldn't be concerned regarding off-gassing, but they don't offer very much heat absorption either, right? Of course simply being a larger mouthpiece adds some advantage. I guess I won't toss it

The glass balls also create a random air path that promotes turbulence when you inhale, further cooling the vapor aside from the heat absorption.

In my opinion, the balls are a pain to clean and develop resin deposits quickly although they are effective. I prefer stems with 90deg bends and cooling spikes but that's just me. 🤷‍♂️:2c:

The small glass balls function like a Percolator in a regular bong. They create disturbances in the flow path of the vape stream itself. The beads would function like these ruby pearls that some other setups use. If it is glass it should be safe to use.

I love my Gordito ! Seema little smoother than the standard curved bubbler.
The Gordito was the first glass I added to my Lobo. When I get it to fill correctly, I love it. But a couple of times, I had some big drops of water fall into the oven and sizzle. That worried me, but no performance problems occurred. Thank goodness. Also, I bought the pretty blue Gordito to match my blue Lobo. Looks great, but this weekend I forgot I was soaking the glass in some 91% ISO for maybe 12+ hours. The solution bleached away 80% of the blue tint on the glass.

I gave my Lobo to a new Patient here, so I cannot look directly, but I do not even see how that is possible. It is a straight shot from the oven, directly through the mouthpiece. It passes nothing else, least of all wiring.

I just got a LOBO a few weeks ago, I'm loving it! Took me a little while to get the smoke right but now it's great!

I use only dosing caps and I only have 5 of them. I would like to get many more but I'm in Canada and they are crazy expensive for what they are. It's $120 to get 32. Are there any other devices that use similar capsules that would fit?

So it is actually not so safe that they are using simple beads, aside from not knowing what type of low quality glass is used exactly, the holes through them could lead to potential glass dust, it is also going to make them harder to clean, just shows that this is a poorly made product without proper intent, using parts from other things that should not be used for vaping... I also would not use balls that small for cooling, they restrict the air flow too much and are annoying to deal with for cleaning, there are a lot of better options out there, these shouldn't exist imo

Lobo users, I have a question. Two actually.

Lesser question first, aside from the optional loading chambers, is there any titanium in the pathway?

Bigger question. I had my good buddy over last night to try my brand-new Tinymight 2 PH.

He, a 15 year Volcano user, was blown away.

He can't spring for a TM2 PH at the moment, but--especially with some store credits to burn--I could make a gift of a Lobo.

Are they awesome? Fill me in. I have never used one, but might be the thing as a portable.

I appreciate any thoughts.

Spy Car,
Can anyone recommend a safe solution that I can clean my Lobo bowl with? I started using mine just packing the bowl but now am just using the capsules but my bowl is like stained. I have tried using iso wipes to clean it but it does not want to clean up.

Make sure it’s not just the metal changing hues due to the heat

Carefully, try an iso wipe while the Lobo is still pretty hot. You can also heat the bowl up and try a SMALL amount of Dark Crystal on a wipe or swab, but be very careful it doesn’t drip into the device. I hold it upside down when I’m cleaning, so excess come out, not runs in.

My roommate just got one of these to replace the old fierce I gave him, seems really nice! I was surprised how small it is, it's like the size of the edge, but with full bowl size etc and the replaceable battery is great! It is simple and the instructions, well done, got it so he could use the fierce glass stems, which fit a bit loose, but that's actually really nice so you can pull and clear your hits, makes the Lobo feel just like a lighter on a bowl for smoking, keeping it pristine upside down instead of loading the metal chamber or messing with capsules... I set him up with a hook, telling him to buy the $15 hook from POTV with his gift card now as well (He was using my really nice triple right angle OGB hook previously but recently broke it unfortunately) didn't seem to need many burn-offs (I ran a full battery down nevertheless) or much cleaning brand new, probably still will break in, can't speak the flavor etc exactly but it was better than what he had and hopefully I will try it too! The dark green color is really nice

Haha don't worry, it was the spare! Initially OGB accidentally sent me one in 14 mm, which was great, because it helped me realize I hated that flared trumpet mouthpiece... I still have my 18 mm flat pinch mouthpiece version, but I cannot entrust my roommate with that :tup:

I ended up returning my Lobo at almost exactly the end of the 100 days. I have VAS, searching for the perfect DHV, and the Lobo missed a few boxes for me.

TLDR: It went back because I'm not sure the temperature is displayed accurately on it, and I wanted a session beyond 6 minutes.

I purchased every accessory for the Lobo ecosystem and I'm glad that some of the glass appear to work with other vapes. I have not found another vape that can use the Lobo's dosing capsule. Each piece of glass offered a different experience and I can't say that I have a favorite. The bubbler attachments are tricky to get a perfect session with; even with following videos, the first session will still splash some water in your mouth, the second is perfect, and the third you need to refill.

I really enjoyed a lot of what the Lobo had to offer! The taste was fantastic! I'm now spoiled by titanium and I can taste the difference, especially when using my Rogue 2 after using my Rogue SE! The screen used does not allow a lot of particulate matter through, which made the vapor smoother. I have since replaced the screen in my OG POTV One with the one from the Lobo and it makes it a much smoother experience that I highly recommend to others.

Even though I had extra batteries, I didn't swap once. I can only recall one time where I was out of juice when I wanted to use it. I am usually near a charger at all times I had it, and just put it on charge when I saw it was getting low, usually around 6-7 sessions or so (all 6 min). In the future, I'm not sure I can be sold on the benefits of a removable battery, as I'm not away from opportunities in my life to charge often enough to carry extra batteries.

I really liked how it held in my hand. Very well balanced, slightly grippy, great color, and I wasn't awkwardly looking for a place to put my fingers so I wouldn't bump a button. The airholes on the bottom were positioned so I never accidently put my fingers over the hole to restrict airflow.

My Lobo was used exclusively with dosing caps. They were a pleasure to scoop the flower up with do to their width; I struggle to scoop with the POTV One/Fury Edge capsules comparatively. It took a bit to get the right pack of the capsule for what worked best for me, which was full, not packed/pressed. Grind didn't matter much unless the capsule wasn't full; if finely grind, particulates would (mostly) catch in the screen and would make the vapor a bit harsh/dry, but I would be able to finish the capsule in 1 session......

What surprised me was the temp I was using it at to get the best balance of flavor & effects was usually around 392f, although I did creep downwards to 374f for most of my sessions towards the end of my ownership. That's a bit hotter than I use on my other vapes (I'm usually 356f-374f).

I am a sipper, and cannot do big inhales, but I can do small inhales for a longer period. So that said, even though I was taking puffs non-stop (usually 2-4 seconds), there was still more to go in the capsule after the longest session the Lobo could be set to, 6 minutes. Unfortunately, turning the Lobo on immediately after a session shows that the Lobo is about 50f lower than the temperature it should have been when I turned it off. That wouldn't be a problem, except it goes up to the previous temperature set, roasting the flower. A example is that I would use at 392f, it turns off after 6 min, then I turn it right back on and it's at 338f. If I could catch it and go fast enough, I could save the remaining flower if I could quickly get it below 363f for that session, otherwise burnt popcorn time.

I do not experience this issue with my POTV One or any of the HR series devices; if I turn back on immediately after a session, it's usually the same or around the same temp which allowed me an extended session to consume the remaining flower.

POTV was wonderful to work with and didn't give me any resistance on returning the Lobo for a full refund, minus shipping. In reality, if it could have gone to a 8 min session on it, I wouldn't have thought the Lobo had a problem. I'm hanging on to my Lobo dosing caps & accessories in hopes for a Lobo 2 at some point.

32? If you don't mind me asking, are you regularly in a situation where you will need to have 32 loaded caps on you at any one time?

If you use it at home, a couple of them should be fine because before you finish the second or 3rd one the first one should be cool enough to empty and refill.

If there is a reason to need 32 of them that I haven't thought of, I'd love to hear it. Either way, I hope you find a solution that works for you.
