When I max out on my new one, the gauge goes a good amount beyond the 420 mark, going to assume this isn't perfectly accurate. Still share the same sentiment as earlier this week.

Also definitely been having some coughing issues at the high temperatures, think its slowing down a bit but was hacking quite a bit, especially when taking a couple quick rips middle of the night. Going to test a bit with the bong and also interested in water cooling.

Well, I wouldn't necessarily want to make it actually straight. Just bent in a way that the tip is near my mouth without me having to move my head much...especially when laying down.

Yeah, that's doable.

My new toy arrived tonight. The Newvape fine grinder. It's worth it, the grind is very nice, and my single scoop of a Clementine x Platinum Kush Breath mix in the reduced chamber with a liquid pad on top of it gave me a really nice and mellow feeling while tasting amazing and actually makes me enjoy the whole session thing, despite being into smaller doses.

Thanks @dzoinp! I'm totally copying you for my water pipe adapter.

I'm curious, concerning the coiled vapor-cooling pathway on the plenty (I don't own one)...it looks like a metal flex-hose. Does this mean it can be straightened or shaped into something other than the coil, or does it have to stay in the coil shape to function best?

Yes you can with a little force, but I think it's best just to leave it alone in a spiral. Some of the early Plenty reviews I was looking at back in 15 also recommended to leave it as is. It's a lot harder to bend than I originally thought.

This thing really was like having vapor on tap.. god I miss this thing! Really a straight "Beast" in every sense of the word!

Hello gentlemen!

With all the drama with the Volcano Hybrid I checked the chamber of my pre-Canopy Plenty and I had the same issue. A lot of residue worth of years of usage came out when I wiped the metal ring. I did stop using this unit a year and half ago because it gave my throat severe irritation. At first I assumed it was because of the massive amount of vapors inhaled but now i am scared it could have been caused by alluminium dust. What scares me the most is that the heating element itself is alluminum too and it may be releasing this dust infinitely even if the coupling issue gets resolved.

I saw someone in reddit with that same dust in a Vapcap and a Flowerpot. I have done the q-tip test in both of them and I saw no residue. Could it be dust or combustion residue in that particular case?. Tested Milaana, Haze square and Argo. No residue at all. I also did that test with my Stempod and a very very little amount came in. I think it could be ash caused by the tiny amounts of herb that could get there but further investigation should be made. The other vape that worried me was my Flipbrick. I saw TONS of residue in the flame intake but it can be caused by a low quality butane (i use butsir, it says filtered 11x but who knows) so I wont be using it at least until someone with better knowledge analizes direct flame butane devices.

Don´t take this post as a statement as these are my personal thoughts and they have not been scientifically tested, just a guy some q-tips and 10 minutes of research. I am sure you guys will get to the bottom of this situation and I am willing to help!

The truth is out there :sherlock::myday::science:

Thank you for doing this, we all need to check this. These companies are making millions, they need to sell a healthy device, this is unacceptable.

I can't believe this is happening. Did nobody check their units ever? This is a vaporizer from 2011!!!
And they are supposed to have a certificate for manufacturing medical devices?

From their site:
CERTIFIED QUALITY

STORZ & BICKEL receives certification for a quality management system according to ISO 9001 and 13485 and thereby fulfills the essential requirement for manufacturing medical devices.

I thought this is the safest vape ever.

Researrching here on FC i saw a post made by @rayski on 2009 that contains this study: http://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?t=171970
We may be overreacting but anyways I dont want any foreign substance in my vapor.

i mean for me personally the Plenty always had a slight plastic flavour, make of that what you will.
and i was always a bit "eh" about those blue clouds the device produces, for me MJ was always connected to white clouds...

but yeah, good to see people being concerned because i think the whole affair with the Hybrid is concerning, especially when S & B speaks of potential health hazards.

i think they have a rather big issue on their hands and many people will be questioning those devices now which is exactly the kind of bad publicity that a company tries to avoid. in short, they dropped the ball both on the Hybrid chamber AND on a statement to these issues.

silently updating some manuals is not reassuring at all, it was Planet of the Vapes sending the emails about the updated guidelines, not S & B themselves...which is the kicker about the whole affair. it is not transparent and you just know there is something they are themselves concerned about but they don´t want to speak up about it.

PS: the Plenty had never a medic version, only the Volcano and Mighty

Morning,

I was nauseous after watching troys video. here is my “aluminum” heater ring after about six weeks...

https://imgur.com/a/9A9ecJv

Obviously when I wiped her down there was something grey on my qtip. Love this device but I ordered a mighty and I’m moving on.

Mighty has, as well as the Volcano and Plenty an aluminium heater too. the ring is the smallest problem when the whole heater is made from aluminium

I don't think the heater is the problem, I believe it's friction between the ring on the bowl and it's counterpart, shaving off filings as the bowl is screwed onto the unit (hence they saying don't turn it all the way)

yeah that could very well be the problem but i am a bit skeptical about the used materials in general at this point.

on the other hand, it could also scrape off plastic in the volcano hybrid case because you screw a plastic ring on a metal body...

It’s not the heater though. And aluminum is safe within a wide temperature range.

The problem is the friction on the Plenty / Hybrid bowl. There are aluminum (oxide?) rings that wear/rub upon contact. Aluminum oxide is basically harmless and it would be a huge oversight by SB to miss this. Still pisses me off to no end.

the mighty is fine. mines in the mail. I’m selling my plenty now.

edit - I hear some people have problems with the dosing capsules on the mighty. Please make sure to keep the facts straight as a lot of people will jump on this and just bash SB!

also, who wants a cheap plenty????

Wouldn’t you find plastic bits instead of aluminum dust if friction was the main issue?

no one knows what this grey substance is which is shown in 420vapezone video...i would say it is some kind of aluminium smear. does it come from the friction of the two rings or from anywhere else? no one knows.

someone should test those residues in a lab, it would be highly interesting to know what it is...

but i don´t want to come across like a concern troll at this point. if people read the Hybrid thread they should see that i was a real advocate of the Hybrid till the issues came to light.

it really made me rethink a lot when it comes to vaporization. other people are surely alright/not concerned about this which is also perfectly fine. to each their own!

On the hybrid or plenty? Plenty there’s no plastic rubbing against each other. Simply aluminum (oxide?) rings.

hybrid has issues of melting plastic. I’d be concerned about the plenty and hybrid for slightly different reasons.

Apparently they both rub and wear and create dust...my six week plenty shows this.

I just ordered a Plenty few days ago (doesn't look like it's shipped yet) .... was pretty happy with my decision, until I started reading about these issues with aluminum reside (mainly with Volcano Hybrid, but seems to affect the Plenty as well).

Are most of you guys/girls going to keep on using, or going to stop? I am leaning towards cancelling my order, as I don't feel like it's worth the risk .......or am I overreacting ?

I would stop using these devices until we get more information. I'm very disappointed with storz-bickel at the moment. They need tell everyone who has these devices to stop using them, take them all off store shelves, do a recall or complete redesign of the chamber asap. I am not gonna risk my health not knowing if this is safe or not. I will not use my hybrid until storz-bickel puts out a public statement that says these devices are 100% safe from metal dust and plastic vapor entering the vapor path and into my healthy lungs.

@david8613 yeah, makes complete sense.... it's just not worth it (I do have a Arizer Air that I am currently using). Just a shame that even a company as well respected as S&B are having these issues.

I think I will keep using it. I’ll just keep an eye open if there will be news from TÜV or S&B or @ohmygodimsohigh
For the time being I have no intention to buy a Volcano Hybrid that’s for sure.
